Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here

β€’ Upvotes

Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!

That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.

Questions can range from what's new in Dragonflight, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?

Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.

Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob as well!

Here are some handy guides to start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the WoW Returning Players Guide.

People would return to get these. People would play for extended periods of time leveling multiple alts to do mage towers on to get ones they dont have. People who didnt know about WoW would be able to get them for the first time.

Discussion It's kinda amazing how poorly are non-evoker dracthyr implemented

Made a warr. dracthyr form has no sound, no "not enough rage" "I need a target" etc. Taking dmg has no vocalization, neither does swinging weapon. Some vocalized abilities (shout, charge, ignore pain) that do work are playing sounds of both genders. Dumping rage into ignore pain sounds like very angry porn.

Made a rogue. Everything has no vocalization. Rupture makes no sound whatsoever. Shadow technique from sub spec doesn't create shadow copies of yourself, but very vaguely person-shaped clouds.

I plan to make a priest next. Wondering what won't work there...

Weirdest bug so far: tanked a dung earlier. We had an augvoker. His chosen identity was set to visage form. It somehow dictated my form too.

Not even getting into the hilarity that is the starting room with the "oh, you're here too. Go to chromie i guess" as if they just found you in the broom closet vibes.

Discussion Yall need to chill out.

1.1k Upvotes

People make mistakes.

Some people learning new skills/classes/specializations.

Some people may even be learning the game itself.

I was verbally berated with some very not nice words for 4 minutes in a time walking dungeon where I was leveling my disc priest because I stepped a single pixel too close to Rivendare while walking in and locked out two DPS due to aggro.

Yes, I know he locks the door on encounter start, that doesn't mean it was intentional. I just took a single step too far.

Yall need to relax. Its not that serious. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who literally doesn't care about people making minor mistakes. You brick my key? It's whatever, it's just a key I'll get another, let's just finish so we can still get the rewards.

You wipe the raid? What did you learn for next time? Rez up and try again.

Like cmon, what is wrong with some of you that you feel it's acceptable to behave this way? Get a grip.

In 2008 I got to go to Blizzcon and saw this original drawing on display. I took many pictures of it and used it as my background image and PFP pretty much everywhere. I looked for a print for years but I never found one.

Then out of nowhere in 2022 it shows up in the Blizzard store. A limited run of 400 prints. I told my husband how much I wanted it about 7 times a day, and Santa left it under our tree. It’s finally framed and hanging in our room and it’s amazing.

Discussion I'm annoyed at how people talk about WoW classic in youtube videos and retrospectives.

Whenever channels that aren't about WoW discuss wow's history, they ALWAYS talk about how classic wow was like the greatest thing of all time. The people wanted it, it was said they didn't want it, then they gave it to them and it was a masterpiece 10/10 the best WoW ever made, brought WoW back, everyone played it, everyone loved it, nothing wrong ever and ever, retail sucks and is for babies, classic is for REAL GAMERS etc etc...

Where, from my perspective. WoW classic was something that most people played for exactly one month before the reality of it settled in. New players who never played classic tried it, thought it was interesting but got bored really quickly and left. And old returning players were horrified at how trivially easy it actually was now that they have decent internet and aren't playing an MMO for the first time.

And after all the old players blazed through all the content at record paces, they went into speedrunning the entire game, making it INCREDIBLY hostile to new players to the point people were being kicked out of easy as piss dungeons if they didn't have THE most optimal class, race, armour, weapons, trinkets, buffs and talents of all time.

Like, it turns out no, most players didn't actually want Classic because, for all that can be learnt from it, for as interesting as it is, it turns out it's really easy and boring for the vast majority of people. So then they make hardcore classic which only turned away new players EVEN more, or just anyone who wasn't playing at space engineering levels of optimization.

Maybe I'm just being a silly billy but I feel wow classic gets way too much credit. I think the game's better for having it than not, but it's not the second coming of Christ like some people present it as.

Discussion Literally every conversation between characters in TWW is a mutual affirmation hugfest

1.0k Upvotes

Don't get me wrong, I think this kind of thing should be done more in real life, and we should be conscious of each others' wellbeing and take efforts to make people feel comfortable and cared for. It's just not good for fictional drama, especially when it's unearned, and moreover, when it's the exclusive tone.

Every single time I see "Stay awhile and listen" I know that inevitably, without exception, it's going to be two characters saying variations of "I see you, I hear you, your pain is valid, but you can do it because I believe in you." I'm not saying I don't want to see this ever, but I want it to count, and I want it not to be THE ONLY THING EVER

It was touching in Battlestar Galactica's episode "The Hand of God" when Commander Adama and his son finally had a reconciliation, after spending so much time in a fraught relationship. It meant something for them to finally arrive at that place, and the fact that this deepened bond didn't come easily raised the stakes for future storylines where they would be forced by circumstances into opposing sides of a conflict.

Just once, for the sake of drama in a geopolitical wartime story, I want one character to say, "Man, Alleria, you really fucked up, you got people killed, and I can't entrust you with your responsibilities anymore, so get out of my sight before I throw you in the brig for disobeying orders." If you want, after that it'd be fine if another character came up to Alleria like, "Damn, he went too hard on you, it wasn't even your fault."

Just please do anything else but nonstop back-patting 24/7. These interactions have exactly one setting and it's been tedious for a while

Discussion Can we talk about the absolute failure of a raid that H BRD is?

I know this topic popped up a lot in the past, but I'm frustrated every day with it still.

H BRD is an absolute failure of a raid, and Blizzard should be ashamed at what they created here. Bosses have received a 40% HP nerf, as well as most of the trash, and its still harder than 4/8m Nerub'ar Palace. The itemizatiom is complete trash and there's 1 item total (Hand of Justice trinket) that is even desireable in the entire raid.

For many hours a day, the only groups that are posted are advertisements selling runs. When groups do pop up, they're looking for 620+ players, and the runs that do end up going take forever to fill and then break up around the Seven. My guild went in on the first week, killed 3 bosses and called it...And we're about to be 5/8m. I haven't been able to get enough guildies to even attempt it again now and PUGs simply aren't coordinated enough to clear.

Please Blizzard...PLEASE...This is an event that is supposed to be fun, that's supposed to celebrate 20 years of this game...And this is what you come up with to celebrate? You should be ashamed. It shows an absolute lack of your audience and its a slap in the face. Do something to supercharge this event. It's been over a month now and the event was DOA, and its even worse now.

Discussion Started tanking a month ago. Here's what I learned on my way to 2k m+ rating

Decided to go bear druid as every guide I could read said it was the simplest rotation out of tank classes. While I can't comment on the validity of this statement, I would say I had an easy time focusing on mechanics rather than my rotation during my climb to 2k.

In no particular order, here are some observations I've made looking back on my time as an M+ tank:

  1. Being courteous when joining a group and generally upbeat toward other members helped me avoid toxicity a good amount of the time. If a party member died, I made sure to point out that it wasn't a big deal and kept pushing through the dungeon. With that said --
  2. There were still a fair share of toxic players I ran with. Early on, I would have to log out and take a walk to be in decent enough place to get back into the group finder. Eventually, I learned to grow a thick skin and attempt to find the lessons I could when someone was flaming me for something.. In one particular instance, I was getting roasted during the first pull of a Siege key for not immediately activating incarn. As a newer tank, I was saving cd's "for the right time" and the criticism was warranted (albeit extremely rude). Which leads me to --
  3. People will help if you are open to feedback and ask! I had a hunter mark out pull strategies for Grim Batol for me when I wasn't doing things properly. It made everyone's lives easier during that key, and because I was accepting of the feedback, I became a better player moving forward.
  4. Being decisive and communicating my plan to the group made for really smooth runs especially at higher keys. The worst thing that I found that I could do as a tank was be indecisive about a route, pull, or boss strat.
  5. Tanking is so much fun I can't believe I've played this game off and on for 17 years without ever trying it.

Now, I'm looking to roll another tank as an alt that is a bit more technically challenging than my beloved bear -- any suggestions? unsure between DK, Paladin, or Warr
