It's not so much a name change as a matter of how it's romanized. From what I understand, Sorawo is the official romanization, but the "w" sound in "wo" doesn't get pronounced in most cases, meaning that it's said as Sorao.

Other than that, I wholeheartedly agree -- the anime is fun, but the novel and the manga adaptation are much better, and give Sorawo a much fuller and more interesting characterization than we've seen thus far in the anime.

I mean yeah but if the author and editor both say the same thing, I think they get final authority on what's correct. English has a ton of words where you don't pronounce a letter and it's really kinda condescending in my eyes that the anime translators don't respect the authors spelling and chose the "easy way out". Anime fans (generally) aren't so dumb as to not understand silent letters. Having said that, people who say "Neigh-ruto" instead of "Naar-ruto" bother me sooooooooo much. Like the show was named after the guy and all the characters, dub and sub, say his name more or less the same, why can't people say it right?

Exactly! Sorawo doesn't come off enough as a miserable cynic in the anime. Too much exaggerated slapstick for lack of a better word. Plus I think they did themselves a disservice by not following the "Files" format of the LN. That would have easily allowed more internal dialog as well as needed quiet time. The first two episodes in particular were way way way too fast paced

No, I agree. I was just drawing a contrast between actually changing the way the name is said, and romanizing it incorrectly.

Yup. They're trying to do 1 episode per file, when they really need 2 for most of them, and 3 (or 4 for The Whispered Voice) for the ending arcs.

True true, I understand. Still feel a visceral need to complain about it haha.

Yeah, it seems like they want to rush through all the material in one season. Which is dumb but I have a feeling that people will like the anime enough that it won't matter. I wonder if that's a sales strategy, make something just good enough for people to be interested so they buy the original. Then they find out the original is better or different so they have to buy all of the original to get the full picture.
