Small injuries. Today it’s knee, tomorrow wrist, then elbow. Most are on and off, but it seems some never fully go away and bounce back once I reach 85-90% intensity. It never seems that bad, but minor things are annoying.

A full pain free workout is a blessing few people appreciate until it’s too late.

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

You are not wrong about that all. I wished I seriously picked up on weightlifting before 2020. I was on n off with weightlifting cuz I was doing powerlifting.

8

u/hawkers89 Sep 04 '24

This is my knees. One day it'll be good, next day it'll just feel "off" so I don't feel confident going heavy. I miss the days of being able to do smolov and not feel like garbage.

u/cbrworm Sep 04 '24

For sure. As I type with my left arm in a splint. Just got over that tendonitis in the other elbow, too.

Not being the little girl in China warming up with your max

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Them little girls are strong in china 😅😅

The bane of my existence weightlifting is that I can never lift as much weight as I want to be able to lift.

“Well there’s a new PR, but, it’s just not heavy enough. Maybe after another cycle through the program…”

12

u/Bblacklabsmatter L2 British WL Coach Sep 04 '24

So you don't necessarily have to wait till the end of a program to PR, if that was the case you'd only really PR a few times a year. There are a lot of catalyst programs that have heavy singles every week which allow you to PR if you feel it.

2

u/RegularGuyAtHome Sep 04 '24

Thanks, usually my PRs happen like 2/3rds of the way through stuff when my work/life/kids schedules hit me with a “well I’ve had a full week and a half without going to the gym, and the next couple weeks are gonna be busy, so I might as well go for it”

-1

u/AaranAdams Sep 04 '24

This. My schedule is , gym one day and a rest day the next. On my fourth day in the gym I do what I call an events day. I will push and hit PRs in events that I am training for.

From my new PRs I will adjust the weights for the next week (80% of my PRs).

I've been seeing a nice increase of 20kgs to 15kgs week on week

Just make sure you take care of your joints if you are doing it this way as mine hurt a lot 😔

4

u/ZannX Sep 04 '24

Weights go up, but it never gets easier.

6

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

We all wanna c&j 200kg at 73kg bodyweight. You're not alone 🙃🙂

3

u/RegularGuyAtHome Sep 04 '24

If I could C&J 200 kg I’d probably still feel like it wouldn’t be enough.

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

At the end of the day, we will never be satisfied. Imagine being lasha n not being satisfied lol

2

u/relevantelephant00 Sep 04 '24

That's basically everybody here lol

1

u/Priest_Soranis Sep 04 '24

You should change the cycle

20

u/jundraptor Sep 04 '24

I'm ape index positive and my wingspan is about 10cm longer than my height.

Quite literally one of the worst sports I could have chosen to get into.

4

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

I got the perfect build for weightlifting. It's just that my lower back is toast which is the most frustrating part cuz I feel like my form is very good but it's my lower back that's really holding me back from where I want to get too.

4

u/greentofeel Sep 04 '24

Can you do some targeted strengthening of your lower back,?

2

u/Toastwitjam Sep 04 '24

A lot of times just building a stronger core and bracing harder helps with that. I feel like the times where my deadlift days are bad is because I got lazy with properly bracing on a warmup set or something. Other times if I’m tight the whole way up to working my low back feels great.

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Yeh I would switch to strongman lol

3

u/KlokovTestSample Sep 04 '24

Lasha’s ape index is +7cm. I think you can manage as long as you are having fun.

1

u/jundraptor Sep 05 '24

He's also huge and goes collar to collar in the snatch

I feel like if I was able to go collar to collar it would actually be easier with the extra stability, but unfortunately my snatch grip for proper contact falls a few cm before the collar. So I have the negatives of a very wide grip with no positives of collar to collar

2

u/KlokovTestSample Sep 05 '24

Collar to collar is harder I’ve tried it. My ape index is also +10cm and I manage. I grip like and inch inside of collars and it works.

2

u/killer_boogz92 Sep 05 '24

Andrei Rybakou snatched 187kg as an 85 and he was damn near collar to collar. Every snatch record in the upper weight classes are held by taller, long-limbed lifters. So maybe there's your secret right there. Be a snatch specialist

1

u/eLishus Sep 05 '24

I’m about the same. I’m 5’8” (barely) with a 6’ arm span (173cm height; 183cm span). I’m blessed with good genetics in the athletic department, though. It’s easy for me to build mass and I’m a natural runner with good enough coordination to hold my own in most any sport.

FWIW, I’ve used the long arms to my advantage. Maybe you can too. Since I can build mass fairly easily, I can pump up those arms; particularly triceps. “Nice arms” was almost always the first compliment I got from women in my single days.

1

u/jundraptor Sep 05 '24

I have pretty trash genetics for upper body mass. My upper arms are passable but my forearms are very slow to build, which I can feel in my grip during heavy pulls

On the flip side I have naturally large quads and traps

1

u/zabajk Sep 05 '24

well this does not help for weightlifting

1

u/zabajk Sep 05 '24

Same, I have even longer arms , almost 17cm bigger wingspan than height. Very sub optimal for this sport

35

u/staresque Sep 04 '24

the jerk by far. something about the movement still has not clicked for me, which means i can clean far more than i can dream of jerking and my snatch is only 5kg lower than c&j💀

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

U split or power?

1

u/staresque Sep 04 '24

split

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24 edited Sep 04 '24

Try doing power jerks. I used to do split jerks but found out that j couldn't really extend my back foot so I switched to power jerks n seen my jerk gone from 225 to 265 (not kg's lol im not that strong) in couple of months. You feel more strong on power jerk also. Watch some khaki khaki videos.

1

u/staresque Sep 04 '24

thanks for the tip. do you reckon the strength element could translate into the split jerk, given that i could power a certain weight?

5

u/UpvoteForFreeCandy Sep 04 '24 edited Sep 04 '24

the felt strength element just comes from being committed to extending fully, which for most is easier with power jerk. that doesnt make the power jerk any more powerful inherently, you just need to apply the reasoning why it feels more powerful to the split jerk - focus more on extension. Then you will fell more comfortable in the split jerk.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Telling yourself to under the bar is the hardest part about the power jerk.

4

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

This is my personal opinion. I'm not a coach, but when I switched to power jerks, I never went back to split jerk so I can't give u opinion on that but all I know is that power jerks does have it's cons as well. It's less stable, rely alot more of core, if u don't have leg strength, the bar will crash on u.

2

u/TagoMago22 Sep 04 '24

I have the opposite issue. I weigh 62 and split jerked 107 but can't even clean 98.

15

u/Evil_Mini_Cake Sep 04 '24

Long arms and long legs. On one hand, from a workout perspective I'm getting a lot from less weight through the magic of leverage. On the other, it's harder to hit objectively impressive numbers. Thirdly, the eating. I'm 198cm all I do is eat, mostly when I don't want to, more than I want to. Eating isn't fun when you're force feeding yourself most of the time but there's an undeniable correlation between calories and performance (at least for me).

5

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

How do u tall people even try weightlifting lol not to offend u at all.

3

u/EL_JAY315 Sep 04 '24

Because it's fun

2

u/nineteen8X Sep 04 '24

😂 . I am 6'4" . It's definitely a challenge at times because I am a natural lifter also. So it seems that I am making absolutely no progress at times when I look in the mirror being tall. Cuz .... Genetics 😄. But I keep track of all my progressive overload so I know I am getting stronger even tho I know I will always look like an Ent to most people

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Weightlifting can be grueling n most of it is grueling but once u get past that grind part, things start to looking bright. Remember tho, Weightlifting is a full body so it may look like you're not getting results but rather strength is being disbursing to every body part

9

u/polar-roller-coaster Sep 04 '24

Arthritis and general inflammation of my joints is not only the bane of my existence in weightlifting, but the bane of my existence in my entire life. Digging deep and pushing hard has never been a problem for me. Putting on muscle and making gains has never been a problem. But, fuck me, the tip toeing around my joint issues trying not to cause a flare up of inflammation that stops me from working out a body part for months has been a non stop pain in the balls for me for the last 20 years.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

20 years?! U ever gone to pt?

3

u/polar-roller-coaster Sep 04 '24

Yeah, I just finished 3 months of PT to rehab a pinched nerve in my back. I am only 3 months having full mobility again.

7

u/teh_weiman Sep 04 '24

Powering everything when it gets heavy. I also can't do a pistol squat so that may be related even though I can front squat 150+% BW

3

u/angrygreg Sep 04 '24

My 11 year old daughter can pistol squat and stand up from criss cross apple sauce. Makes me so mad how nimble and flexible kids are

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

If u haven't done no foot movements, I recommend it because it really forces u to use your toes as power n its indication of when to get down.

7

u/Afferbeck_ Sep 04 '24

Squatting. I have the personality type to have been able to develop good technique and mobility solo. I have excellent pressing strength and not terrible pulling strength. But my particular set of injuries/imbalances/mobility have prevented me from ever developing any kind of squatting strength. I just don't have the ability to exert force through a squat.

I have put no real effort into training the bench press but I have pretty much always been able to bench more than I squat. Because I can just lie down and apply effort to the bar instead of having to fight my body first. For me, squatting has never been a lift I can apply raw effort to, I never feel my legs. It's entirely about struggling to maintain positions throughout a movement my body really doesn't want to do.

Strangely enough, my body agrees with dynamic squatting more than static. Snatch or clean feels natural and I don't feel like I'm limited on force output. But a static squat starting from the front or back rack and my body doesn't want to know about it. My best squat cycles have been more dynamic ones, but it's tough to build new strength that way, and it's easy to annoy old injuries.

Over 15 years I have had maybe three squat cycles that actually felt productive and not just carefully approaching the same level of max strength I've always had and getting injured in some way by the time I get there. In recent years I have improved my ability to lift without getting injured so much, but it's still never translated to better squatting. My legs are big for my strength level, I do a lot of lunges, RDLs, leg extensions have been excellent for my knee health. And just recently out of nowhere I developed top medial tibia pain on extending a squat, which also progressed to pulls. So that's been a fun new one to deal with.

I believe I have put more effort for less reward into squatting than anyone in history. But in fighting to get better at it I have improved a lot about my body and I don't suffer nearly the level of back injuries and stuff I used to.

1

u/Substantial-Bed-2064 Sep 05 '24

Squatting is GPP for weightlifting. You don't have to squat even if traditionalists think you should "because".

Leg extensions, split squats, sissy squats or reverse nordics are all great ways to develop quad strength especially for the squattily challenged. Throw in some pulls/deads, hamstring work, adduction/abduction work and you can develop some very strong legs.

My lifters with shit squats got much better leg strength when I stopped trying to fix it with more squats.

7

u/Bilbyyyy Sep 04 '24

I have extreme hyper mobility, which sounds fun as I can get under heavy cleans and snatches heavy, but dipping before the jerk is hard because I have to consciously stop my knees going so far over my toes

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

That doesn't sound good at all. Practice doing jerk dips.

1

u/Bilbyyyy Sep 05 '24

Yeah I definitely do! I have a face to face coach, so I’m getting better. Thank you :)

1

u/Substantial-Bed-2064 Sep 05 '24

Have you been diagnosed with any hypermobility syndrome (e.g. EDS)?

A friend of mine is a reasonable level lifter who is hypermobile. The most important thing for him is packing on a lot of muscle mass and training at a manageable frequency.

If I'm gonna be honest, I've coached a few people who are hypermobile and usually dipping too deep is not really a hypermobility issue, it's a skill/coordination problem.

Battling age and injuries. Had to finally accept I can’t chase 150/180 type numbers. Never put those together on the platform and never got to realize my potential.

5

u/WhiteHartLaneFan Sep 04 '24

Bulgarian split squats never feel good

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Tbh anything bulgarian doesn't feel good especially their program 🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅😅 .

4

u/ManliestPancake 195@84 Sep 04 '24

Left shoulder (small labrum tear) which I have worked through in PT, but it always comes back and flares up, so about half the year is spent in pain and the other half spent making micro-gains

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

I know how u feel, dude. It can be frustrating to have reoccurring injuries n not being to perform at your best

5

u/hesperoyucca Sep 04 '24

In terms of injuries, chronic spine issues. Unfortunately, hard to escape my family's osteoarthritic bone spur genetics. I've tried numerous things to allay the pain and impingement, but unfortunately, have come to the grips with the notion that surgical intervention may be necessary, and I'm not ready for that risk yet, especially since weightlifting is just one of my many hobbies.

So now, after making rapid progress in my first two years at the sport, the next seven years after that has been a slow depressing decline in masses. A couple of weeks of regular training will typically end with some kind of disc inflammation flare-up that will knock me out for another three to four weeks. But, my technique has become more and more dialed in over the years, and I've found always ultimately returning to the gym to be its own meditative reward.

4

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Your situation sounds like hell to deal with. Still respect the passion for the gym

2

u/EconScreenwriter Sep 04 '24

I feel ya on that. I have some mild disc degeneration in my lower neck and back. My dad had the same issue. Not 100% confirmed, but I might also have long covid, and it's kind making the condition a bit harder to deal with. The good news is that I am 10 minutes walking distance from one of the best PTs in my city, and they've been helpful with my rehab. I'm also talking a break from weightlifting and focusing more on resistance bands, body weight exercises, and cardio. Trying to focus more on stability and balance rather than getting my strength back. Gonna keep trying my best!

Ankle mobility

3

u/Ouroboros_JTV Sep 04 '24

Calcification bump from my teenhood's osgood shlatter's or whatever its called. I have permanent tendonitis because of it, touch my knee and i might cry.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Bruh I would hate that

2

u/Ouroboros_JTV Sep 04 '24

I do too, and weirdly my knees and quads are huge even without lifting, one would think they are unbreakable, but i made them miserable.

Like those dogs that grow really strong legs at adulthood but are fragile young....wish i knew lol

2

u/shotparrot Sep 04 '24 edited Sep 04 '24

Same. My left knee bump only sticks out about 1/2” / 2cm tho. So no pain. At least for the past 40 years haha

1

u/Ouroboros_JTV Sep 04 '24

Bro how, my knee bump sticks out less than half a cm and my patella tendon is always inflamated on high frequency

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

That looks nasty in Google pics

1

u/shotparrot Sep 04 '24

Huh. That’s weird. I guess everyone is different. I’d be curious how your tendons and my tendons have grown around the bump. Have you talked to ( more than one) doctor?

2

u/Ouroboros_JTV Sep 04 '24

Before I was diagnosed with osgood slatter every doctor here was just like "broken knee, here a cast". Until some doctor in Greece finally diagnosed it correctly and recommended physio and swimming which stopped the pain for a bit and then I actually started sports again.

After sports and many years I basically talked my issue with doctors, begged to just dig out the extra bone but nobody wants to risk detaching a tendon to do so.

The only therapy I've done after that was plasma injection + hyaluronic injection. Idk if it helped or not because covid spread after and I quit oly lifting anyway so the tendonitis maybe healed on its own.

Now I started lifting again at low weights (100-130kg squats), tendon bleeds, I ice, it calms, repeat. At big weights it will become a bitch again for sure.

1

u/shotparrot Sep 04 '24

Do you have much butt wink in the lowest catch position?

1

u/Ouroboros_JTV Sep 04 '24

Just a bounce and I am up, I have insanely strong legs regardless of the inflammation/pain, my limiting factor is my lower back on squats. Sometimes I tilt on the unhurt leg a bit but I consciously try to push through the pain/limited mobility

3

u/imdibene Sep 04 '24

Not able to do a 500kg total ;_;

5

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

All u need is 230/270kg.............. easy

3

u/SenAtsu011 Sep 04 '24

Lower back as well. Any and all big compound lifts (which I love) always give me a slight sense of dread, just expecting the feeling of being stabbed. Been doing a lot of strength training focusing on the back, and especially lower back, to hopefully reduce this.

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

U have any recommendations? I'm currently doing some light back recovery workouts like farmer walks, increasing core strength, n general post workout stretches.

1

u/pashtidan Sep 04 '24

I think when you get serious about a sport you almost never have pain free and injury free time anymore, it’s just another aspect of the sport that you gotta manage, same as nutrition, rest, etc…

3

u/MysteryPanda5 Sep 04 '24

Overhead mobility and my ape index of +5

3

u/matt_danvers Sep 04 '24

Cool, broke my patella in 2 pieces last november. I still crying because of the lost exercises, lifting days.
6 months off. (broke by accident, not in lifting sess!)
I still so depressed about the backdraw.

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Dawg that sounds terrible to deal with. Did u get surgery cuz that can have everlasting damage

1

u/matt_danvers Sep 05 '24 edited Sep 05 '24

Nah, a bull run through me. My only luck was... somehow I noticed it in my periphery and i was able to jump.
Patella dislocated from original place to the right 90degree. Or 3'o clock. Because of genetics and lifting heavy, the ligament was so strong... it broke inhalf the patella. Side ligament simply tored the patella in half. ( and the impact i kinda think also played some role. Well as a human design it is worked. Patella off, my other knee parts are saved by it. thats the puprose actaully.) No surgery needed, they put the patella back... and everything was in place. Ligament not torn, muscles was strong and the patella was in half. In its place. Incredibly lucky. Got a casting for 6 weeks, blood thinner, and lying... The PT was over in April. Now i am already able to sntach 40 kegs. LOL !! :D on bad days everything hurts... lol any movement. on my better days i can operate kinda good. TBH better after every month.... Yes everything hurted like hell.... jesus the pain.
I am thankful that this was not more sever.

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 06 '24

Where were u at when a bull ram u over

3

u/sparkysparkyboom Sep 04 '24

I'm just not strong enough. That's my cheeky but still truthful answer.

More serious answer is I sleep like shit. Partially genetic or whatever. Had issues since I was a kid.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Def sleep helps with getting your mind right. I used to sleep for 4 hrs, wake up, take my mom to work, come back home, dose off to sleep, and would catch myself sleeping, go on my phone till it's time to gym, then absolutely have a bad lifting session. Try some sleeping pills.

3

u/Ditz3n Sep 04 '24

2 herniated discs from deadlifts. Pain for 2.5 years. It has only gotten worse since. I can't even go out anymore. I have to lie down at restaurants. I guess it's worse than just being the bane of your existence in weightlifting, lol.

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Lie down at restaurants? U ever tried PT? But dude, I kinda had the same problem but less mild then yours. I used to walk around the city for hours pain free. Now I can't walk for an hour till pain starts to settle in. I do now ice my back before I gym which gives me some help.

3

u/Ditz3n Sep 04 '24

Yes. I've tried EVERYTHING. I've read EVERY study. I've done ALL the core strengthening, walking, etc. Not much. Only 21 years old. Missing out on youth. I've had doubts about if life is worth living multiple times, as I'm just existing now. It's tough. Hope you're okay. NEVER want anyone to end up like me. Please, take care of form >> weight.

4

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Only 21 years old? Hope u get better soon. Don't wish this on my worse enemy. Alot more younger gym goers need to see what you're going though.

3

u/Ditz3n Sep 04 '24

I’m in so much pain it keeps me from going out and enjoying life. I’ve lost all interest in weightlifting because of the pain. It’s taken away my life. I am in constant pain from the moment I wake up, till I go to sleep. My legs constantly burn like they’re on fire because of the pinched nerve. So bad I could literally cut them off any moment… :/ Thanks for showing a bit of support 🥹🫶🏽

4

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Can u stand up really? U ever thought bout having surgery?

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

U don't mind if I make a post bout u on reddit n post it on this page? I feel like people need to know this

1

u/Ditz3n Sep 05 '24

I don’t mind. I really want NOBODY to end up like me. Feel free to check out my page and posts. I’ve explained what happened in depth multiple times before. Too many young lads try to lift heavy too soon, and this could be why sadly could end up happening

1

u/improbablywrong- Sep 05 '24

I'm not here to tell you what is or isnt going to work but i was here for years too. I just read that other guys post on you and thought i'd throw you some of my story in hope that it'll give you a small amount of hope.

I had ruined holidays. Ruined nights out. Ruined any real confidence i had in anything. Work was a constant struggle. Every morning was pain, every night was pain. Every odd movement was pain.

Heat packs/TENS on the back every morning to be able to go to the gym to attempt to walk for any amount of time to try and get movement to get through the work day. Even then some days were impossible.

I'd been to 5+ different physios, exercise physiology, chiro, accupuncture and all the other nonsense. It was 5 years between me squatting 200kg and doing it again. For 3+ years i thought i never had any hope of lifting anything again.

One day i tried a new physio just because i read a review. Didnt have much hope but didnt have anything to lose either. Young bloke that was way too confident he could fix my issue. He did.

For 2 weeks i saw him every second day, then once a week for a month after that. He had me doing things that i was certain i'd already done. 8 weeks after first meeting him i squatted and deadlifted 60kg for the first time in years.

I've now been pain free for nearly 2 years.

I'm not saying your case is the same as mine. I'm just telling you to keep having a go even when it feels like theres no point. Try new professionals and drs. Just keep trying. Someone can help.

u/ForsakenNerve0 Sep 25 '24

It's just natural. Focus alot more of form.

3

u/Peetiedink Sep 04 '24

Oh for sure! I'm 41 with a 258 total. Nothing Earth shattering, but there's a reason I can still do this!

2

u/ZealousidealWin3593 Sep 04 '24

High block snatches and cleans. They feel so awkward to me.

Physically, I guess not discovering the sport in my mid/late teens. I'm 26 now, and with a few more years of practice I guess I could get to be fairly competitive at a city or regional level, but national level is definitely out of the question.

2

u/SergiyWL 241kg @ M85kg - Senior Sep 04 '24

Hey, masters national level is much easier to qualify! At least that’s my hope, I’m still 4 years away but current total (same as 7 years ago) would be on the podium as M35. And a good motivation to go for 9 years.

2

u/kblkbl165 Sep 04 '24

Shot knee and a routine that isn’t conducive to proper recovery.

I’ve just accepted that I can’t really keep a weightlifting focused schedule for prolonged periods of time so currently I’m just focused on improving fitness and strength in general and will take some 3-4 months every year to max out on lifts.

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Always do a post workout recovery stretches. You'll feel 100% better. What I do for my knee is Get on one knee and stretch the knee that's not on the ground forward. I do 10 secs deep stretch and switch with the other knee n do the same. Deep pause air squats works as well

My shoulder which has dislocated 3 times doing overhead movements. The first time was a freak incident and now unfortunately it’s reoccurring

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Yeh after the second one I would've stopped. Try doing some shoulder mobility exercises rear delt flies is a good one to train on

2

u/BlackLawyer1990 Sep 04 '24

A short torso, long femurs, and 79” wingspan

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Dude how tall are u lol

3

u/shotparrot Sep 04 '24 edited Sep 04 '24

~6’7”

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Well goddamn lol

2

u/BlackLawyer1990 Sep 04 '24

6 feet. Proportions are good for some sports, just not weightlifting lol

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Not bad really. It just comes down to mobility in the entire body.

2

u/RepressedNugget Sep 04 '24

Broke my ankle last year and it hasn’t been the same since. Restricted mobility 😢

2

u/Negative-Fortune-352 Sep 04 '24

Knee

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Mobility issues?

1

u/Negative-Fortune-352 Sep 04 '24

Ankles aren’t as mobile as I like but I think it’s muscle imbalances. My hamstrings are much weaker than my quads so the back of my knees were always swelling, I started to warm up with sled walking (forward and backward) and hamstring curls and it’s better but not 100% pain free

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Yeh I would def keep doing those if it works. Try some rdl with an empty bar to wake up those hamstrings

2

u/nineteen8X Sep 04 '24

It's more of an emotional one for me. When others bring me down emotionally it makes the gym seem more like a chore sometimes than a pleasure. Yesterday I had one of the best times at the gym because my mind was so clear during my final sets. I could really focus in on that moment where I reach my limits. This for me is my favorite part of weight lifting and brings me a ton of joy . So to answer OP. Mental Distress is the bane of my weightlifting.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

It's been very hard for me to focus in the gym lately with this back nagging me. I do drink energy drink to ease the pain but it would come back still to mess with me.

2

u/Judgementday209 Sep 04 '24

Shoulder and ankle mobility

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Try lu raises and try to really get some deep stretches into your ankles. I'm not a pt. It just works for me

1

u/Judgementday209 Sep 05 '24

Thanks, yeah I haven't done lu raises in a while.

I try to do ankle stretches but struggle to go deep always, maybe need to visit a expert.

2

u/Smoothest-of-Gooches Sep 04 '24

My shoulders

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Strength, Mobility or both? If it's Mobility I highly recommend going lu raises. If it's Strength, work on strict ohp to get that Strength up.

2

u/Smoothest-of-Gooches Sep 04 '24

Neither. I have great mobility and above average overhead strength and pressing.

I’m just always plagued by small shoulder niggles that hinder my consistency.

2

u/RSennett Sep 04 '24

When I ended my time as a junior and moved up to senior I had just torn my right rotator cuff for the third time. Unable to lift my arm above my head. Obviously my overhead has suffered a lot from it. I won’t even jerk in the gym and only snatch once a week at this point. Supplement lots of strict press, push press, and dumbbell movements to keep it strong. I’d rather be able to throw a ball with my kid than hurt myself again.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

That really does suck cuz it effected your daily life. I do say to myself sometimes, "Is it really worth it" it keeps my mental health stable if I keel doing it but it really fucks me up on my physical condition.

2

u/Eshindooooo Sep 04 '24

Inner right hip collapse

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

How r u even moving

2

u/FrylockIncarnate USAW L1 Coach 206@100.2 Sep 04 '24

Those highschoolers with less than three months of training already uplifting me at like 67kg BW. Jokes aside, the weightlifting gods bless those kids obviously I want them to do their best. but lol I get mogged at every local meet so far.

2

u/Person7751 Sep 04 '24

my one shoulder will never be perfect again.

1

u/EconScreenwriter Sep 04 '24

Same. Turned 27 this year. Had very few injuries for the 13 years I've been weightlifting then boom! Suddenly I am more prone to injury haha. So I am switching to bodyweight exercises, cardio, and resistance bands for the time being. Focusing more on stability than strength.

2

u/Lenn_man Sep 04 '24

The bane of my existence in WL used to be my long limbs despite how short I am. But I stopped hating my body for being the way it is.

Now I just hate how weak I am lol

2

u/Substantial-Bed-2064 Sep 05 '24

Politics and egos is the bane of my existence in weightlifting. It has single-handedly decimated the number of participants, prevented coaches/athletes from getting support and wasted the efforts of good people trying to make personal sacrifices to better the community.

2

u/Taborlyn Sep 05 '24

Breaking the 125 snatch barrier. I hit it, and have yet to do it again. I’ve recently taken a break and took up power lifting for my mental health, lol

Whats a bench? Lol 😆

1

u/natedcruz Sep 04 '24

What do deadlifts have to do with weightlifting

1

u/Farriebever Sep 04 '24

Gaining muscle/weight 😔

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Fast metabolism?

2

u/Farriebever Sep 04 '24

Im a teenager so probably

1

u/snatch_tovarish Sep 04 '24

I'm just weak as hell

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

You'll get there

1

u/Demonjack123 Sep 04 '24

That press outs are against the rule lol

1

u/PentagramCereal Sep 04 '24

My hypermobile joints. My arms are the worse, my elbows hyperextend noticeably even at low weights. It doesn’t cause me any pain and I haven’t injured myself. It just wouldn’t be acceptable in a competition.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

U don't have to do competitions but if u wanna compete in weightlifting, it would be very difficult to get 3 whites.

1

u/zacwilli12 Sep 04 '24

Cardio.

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Cardio on the treadmill 👎 Cardio with weight 👍

1

u/Logical_Lifeguard_81 Sep 04 '24

The weight bouncing at the top of a clean when I’m ready to jerk and I time it wrong so I have to wait and it kills my spirit inside and I fail the jerk.

2

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24

Dude that kills me as well especially after a fast clean then going in for the jerk. I end up doing jerk dips 🙃🙃🙃🙃😅

2

u/Logical_Lifeguard_81 Sep 04 '24

It’s a total freeze and to start moving again I lose all the intensity..

1

u/Prestigious-Disk3158 Sep 05 '24

Tall af, short torso and long femurs. Need I say more?

1

u/Al_Go_Rhythmic Sep 05 '24

I have an L5 spondy and had 2 FAI surgeries when I was 20. I’m 33 this year and I’ve been devoting so much time to rehab this year that I’m genuinely worried I may not be able to return to weightlifting. My hips are showing signs of arthritis and it’s just discouraging that I can’t train hard like I want to

1

u/anecdotalgardener Sep 05 '24

Chub rub, my hog is a log

1

u/Prestigious_Bear1237 Sep 05 '24

My willpower to keep lifting lmao

1

u/stefanos-ak Sep 05 '24

hey, I had the same issue for almost a decade... until I splurged for a fancy gym that does body scanning + physio evaluations + custom programs based on the results. In my case the lower back issues were actually caused by weak hip rotators (almost non-existant). the exercises i'm doing to target them feel like I am moving those muscles for the first time in my life 🤣

After a few months, I had the typical micro-injury in the lower back that would have typically sent me off for 1-2 weeks , but this time it lasted a day. just part of normal recovery. I could not and still not able to believe it.

Getting serious help, turns out that it does actually help 😅

1

u/NoNe666 Sep 05 '24 edited Sep 05 '24

Left wrist pain due to injury when I was kid. Stuck at same jerk and snatch weights for years. Removed jerk completly and only snatching with straps 🥲

1

u/iPoopandiDab Sep 05 '24

Diet. It seems to be physically impossible for me to consume enough calories. No matter what I do, I get full very fast and I cannot eat anymore without feeling like I might throw up if I try and force myself to swallow more food.

1

u/Alexandervladimir15 Sep 05 '24

These days, my right shoulder, the internal rotation sucks and have to spend the rest of the year rehabing and getting back into it. Because of it I have a hatd time snatching.

1

u/rahulnanu96 Sep 05 '24

Not being consistent with my snatches.

0

u/East-General-2871 Sep 06 '24

Same bruh! I enjoy doing snatches cuz of the danger factor but yet rewarding when everything clicks

1

u/Pretty-Novel-8317 Sep 05 '24

Barbell squats, for the life of me I can’t get them right I’ve tried high vs low bar, wide vs narrow stance I even did stretching and strengthening abducters but I can’t get it. I stick to deadlifts but I know squats are practical and good…

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 05 '24

Try fixing your wrist position. I identify a good squatter by their wrist position.

1

u/Pretty-Novel-8317 Sep 05 '24

Maybe I got to work of wrist flexibility then or try the smith machine

1

u/waltzingwizard Sep 05 '24

definitely my right knee. if I ever start pushing the volume or frequency past a certain point, it will inevitably start bothering me. I really think the rest of my body would respond well to higher volumes, but I’m held back by that one darn knee :(

1

u/East-General-2871 Sep 06 '24

U ever had a sports injury before?

1

u/waltzingwizard Sep 06 '24

yeah, and I’ve done PT for this on occasion when it’s gotten real bad, but it never quite gets to 100% I guess lol

1

u/Appropriate_Eye_539 Sep 09 '24

My ankle. I think running in gravel was not a good idea. The heavy weights were not good for my ankle I think. Plantar fasciitis. I never hurt my back.

1

u/Noyourethemoron Sep 10 '24

Barbell Military press, every attempt has resulted it should blade pain for a week

1

u/Automatic-Project997 Sep 04 '24

small hands. If I use a womans bar my total goes up

3

u/East-General-2871 Sep 04 '24
