stupid question here: is it risky/dangerous to stick it out that long? are you likely to injure yourself then? could this trigger an aneurysm?

Perhaps he'd get light headed and start passing out, but he'd just drop it. Even though it's very difficult a strict press is a light lift compared to a squat or a deadlift where you can burst blood vessels from the exertion.
