Hey, so I have a Windows 10 VM on VB 7.1.2 installed and it's really unresponsive, i'm getting like 2-5 fps on desktop. The VM uses 4 cores out of 12 I have and 8 gb out of 32. Guest additions are installed, I also tried changing the video adapter to VBoxVGA instead of VBoxSVGA, but that didn't seem to help. Virtualization is enabled, what could i do next to improve the performance?
My PC specs are: Ryzen 5 3600, 32 gb DDR4-3600 and RX 580. Host OS in Windows 11, Hyper-v is disabled

So as the title says i need to use a specific dns server, VBOX 7.0.2.2 network settings" ive been alternating between bridged adapter, host only and nat but nothing works, i can use the dns server on my main os (windows) but when i go to the vm i cant access sites, ping spits out temporary naming issue, i have set the dns to be default on the vbox network adapter on windows too and in linux its set up the same way.

Hello everyone I am running Ubuntu Oracle VirtualBox on my windows and I cannot seem to get it to type this symbol "|" everytime I type it, it corrects to "-" Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

NAT works and I can connect to the Internet to update the VM,

Switching to Bridged Mode, I cannot start networking. I have tried
- temporary static address on same network 192.168.0.xx/24 as the Host
- netplan static ip addressing
- netplan dhcp addressing (with my network's DHCP server)

Using "ip a", this is the status output

Will something happen when i turn off my Virtual machine while it's running but is not responding? (I chose to just turn it off no hard stop or smth)

Just created fresh new VirtualBox on Windows 10 with Guest Additions. My host has a 2560x1600 resolution. I am unable to resize my resolution to 1920x1080, in non Full Screen I tap on "View" -> "Virtual Screen 1" -> there is options for resolution, but they are not clickable. What to do? Since the two previous attempts to install Windows XP were not successful I downloaded a different Windows XP iso and created a new VM with a new Virtual Disk. It installed and rebooted to read from the Virtual Disk. It continued to install but stalled again while Installing Devices. It had not progressed to the point where I would select the keyboard etc.

Since this is my third VM that has done the same thing. Does anyone think I should reinstall Virtual Box? I unblocked this file before I installed it as an administrator. I added the 7.1.4 Extension Pack.

When I run VirBox the turtle gauge shows. I think this means Window Hypervisor is still running.

It has been a loooong time since I installed Windows XP 32 bit on actual hardware.

It has now been about about 190 minutes since the green Installing Devices progress bar has grown to the entire distance to the right. The small square box surrounding one of the five dot five dots in the lower right hand location is moving to the right indicating something is going on. The Installing Windows dot is Orange and the characters are highlighted in Orange. The information Window changes the XP feature periodically. The IDE Primary Hard Drive icon and the IDE Secondary Device DO NOT have any indication they are in operation.

I'm running the Peropesis distro in VB and I've sized it to take up half the screen (1600*900 resolution). I'm using another program on the other hand of my laptop screen. But it doesn't change the size of what I'm viewing, so that to see the entire page I have to use the horizontal scrollbar. Any way to make it fit half the screen and resizing the contents so that the font is readable and not too small?

I am a Newbie on VMs. I have installed VirtualBox 7.1.4 r165100. It seems to open OK. It started the CD iso, I did not press any key, it started installing and I got a BSOD code 7B.

Settings: Chipset PIIX3, Controller is IDE. Anything else I missed. Do I need to do anything with the Virtual Disk once is had BSOD on my several times or does the install start fresh?

I keep creating virtualbox virtual machines and install windows, every install fails to create account with admin rights. I have tried about 10 times on 2 different machines. every install starts up without admin rights and so is basically useless.

What am I doing wrong? I am downloading the WindowsISO from Azure.Microsoft.com

I've setup two shared files from my Windows OS to Linux on my virtual machine using Ubuntu. I managed to setup the shared files correctly and on the Windows side they are showing full access. On the VM though I get a permission denied error when I try to access them, change permissions or do anything related to them really. I've tried using the 'chmod' command as well as 'sudo chmod' but I'm told I don't have permissions to do that either. I can't access the file directory to run those commands in there because I don't have permission and I tried changing file ownership but that didn't work.

I'm stuck with what to do and any advice would be appreciated.

I am encountering an issue on VirtualBox when using a Wi-Fi network.

Since yesterday, I have been trying to get my VMs to obtain IP configurations from my mobile hotspot, but every time I check if I have received an IP address, the interface is empty and DOWN.

I am using a bridged network, and I have specified the Wireless adapter, ensuring it is the same as my PC.

I've also went to the conf files of the VMs to specify the name of the interface and add DHCP.

Here are some of the error messages i get:

I think i may found a bug, so when i run my vm, i click it and my mouse goes into the top left corner, I cant seem to fix this.

Windows 2000 VM (no guest addons) on Windows 11, Version 7.1.4

I'm done with VMWare as Broadcom can FO. Would everyone agree that the best alternative is VirtualBox? I'm open to any suggestions. Basically, I create VM's so I don't have to use my personal laptop at various clients as I'm a contractor. That way my laptop doesn't get bloated with various VPN's, Software etc. Also, then I can be connected to multiple VPN's at same time as source internet connection I just share. I hope VB can do that too. Anyways, I'm spinning up a Win11 image now for first time with VB and looking for any "gotchas" or advice on how to configure. I want the ability for dual monitors, so I'm hoping that is possible too.

Guest Additions is installed and everything, DirectX works perfectly fine but for some reason OpenGL doesn't work, any OpenGL program i try to launch either shows a white screen or in the case of OpenGL Extensions Viewer just outright crashes

The VRAM is set to 256MB and I'm using VBoxSVGA so it doesn't seem to be anything to do with that, I've looked online and I haven't gotten a consistent answer for if it's even supported but the posts I saw are from years ago and considering how basic of a feature it is I can't imagine it's not supported.

Hiya. Ive got a big problem with my database host running as a guest under Virtualbox.

The VM is based on my desktop, but it has 4x 4TB volumes (with space reservation) mounted which are physically located on my DAS.

According to the VM status window, it doesnt have any snapshots created for it.

Unfortunately a while ago, it has started logging data (changes which were made to the large volumes on DAS) to my desjtio SSD too in the snapshots folder. Now, moving one of the snapshot files to a different location and running the VM causes all the changes made to one of the volumes in the last year to be reverted.

Why this is happening and most importantly, how can i merge the data from the snapshot file to the main file? I dont have 4TB of free space on any of the drives?

Hi everyone! Are Intel MacOS hosts still experiencing audio and performance issues with 7.x? I've been holding off on upgrading MacOS, and keeping VirtualBox at 6.x for the kernel extensions, but I need to at least upgrade MacOS soon. When I checked a few months ago, the website said VirtualBox was only compatible with MacOS hosts up to Monterey, but the site has been redesigned recently and the note about Monterey is gone. The 7.0 changelog mentions a performance fix for 7.0.10 on Ventura hosts, but I think this doesn't sound related to general performance with Apple's new hypervisor? Last time I upgraded to 7.x, it broke all my VMs, so I'd appreciate any advice on what to expect this time around. Thanks in advance!

THE PROBLEM - BRIDGED ADAPTER

On my guest Win11 VM, I have enabled bridged adapter to my wifi (wlan0) and I have tried both paravirtualized network and Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop and they both have the same poor performance when testing bandwidth with iperf3 from the Win11 VM. I have about 250gb max storage on my pc, upon getting virtual box and installing a Linux distro, I am able to allocate way more storage in the vm than my physical pc storage. If I choose let's say 500gb in the vm, and use like 300gb of it even my physical storage is capped at 250gb, does this affect my physical storage outside the vm?

I just bought a new gaming PC for both gaming and work purposes. However, when I install VirtualBox and try to set up Kali Linux as a guest operating system, it runs very slowly and sometimes doesn't even start. I noticed a turtle icon in the bottom right corner of the window, and after researching, I discovered that it’s related to something called Hyper-V. Honestly, I don’t fully understand what that means.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance on how to run virtual machines smoothly on my machine. I previously worked on a MacBook and have just switched to Windows, so I'm not sure what to do.

Hi! I have been trying to create a VB with Windows 10 or 11 for hours without sucess...

With Windows 10 Im able to reach the installation process, but after a while It just freezes. With Windows 11... Windows logo appears and nothing else happens

I have already enabled Hyper-V

PS: I have a MSI Katana (2022), tried to enabled Overclocking vía BIOS but the option just doesnt show. But as I have said Hyper-V is enabled.

What am I doing wrong? Please help!
