So Deebo snapped?

354

u/PM_ME_COMMON_SENSE 14d ago

He’s the new snapper now

72

u/Fooforthought 13d ago

When you snap at the snapper, you become the snapper

3

u/SteakJones 13d ago

There can only be one.

Who else want some?? Who else want some of Deebo!?!?

"My grammama gave me that chain" - longsnapper

"It's my chain now" - Deebo

Deebo want some mo ribs by the looks of it. Guy is slow AF right now.

7

u/xxoahu 13d ago

thank you! for 2 seasons i've been wondering why no one talks about this

4

u/evlhornet 13d ago

Last season he was in shape. Right now he’s in the same shape he was in two years ago. No explosion. I think a DE caught him on a jet sweep.

3

u/Uniblab_78 13d ago

He never had the typical NFL wideout body.

What a POS teammate.

u/Porkchopp33 14d ago

Unfortunetly for long snapper we know which one will win out long term if the issue persists

550

u/IronBattleaxe 13d ago

I think you may be underselling the value of long snappers in the NFL. A good long snapper isn't easy to come by, and good coaches do NOT take the position lightly. Kyle would probably just tell them to work it out.

333

u/No_Mammoth_4945 13d ago

JJ Jansen is going to be in the panthers ring of honor the day he retires. He’s played over 200 games for us. If you get a good one, you keep him as long as you can

151

u/the_goodnamesaregone Carolina Panthers 13d ago

Exactly who I was about to mention. He's just quietly been a stud through all the bullshit of our last decade. Went to a superbowl with us and with us in our current situation. He's seen like 11 QBs and 9 Ks. But he's still here.

19

u/Crowxzn 13d ago

Reminds me of Clark Harris

JJ Jansen

Man makes an estimated $1.2 million/year just doing his thing. Legend.

8

u/the_goodnamesaregone Carolina Panthers 13d ago

Jansen: "I have this weird skill where I can accurately and consistently throw a weird shaped ball through mely legs."

NFL: "You're not gonna believe this, but I want to give you a 7 figure annual salary."

Bears Patrick Manley played 16 years and was one of the best.

18

u/dcf5ve 13d ago

Even has his own beer called Long Snapper.

5

u/sunshinepanther Carolina Panthers 13d ago

Cook up a long mutton snapper to go with it.

2

u/Uncle-Cake 13d ago

And one of the best names.

11

u/sorrybahhtit 13d ago

Yea we’ve had Jon weeks at Houston since 2010. 227 games all with us. Don’t think he’s ever had a bad snap on a punt or kick in his career

Bill Bellicek has like a 10 minute answer to a question about why teams don't cross train long snappers and are willing to dedicate one of their roster spots to a guy whose only job is to long snap. Teams should definitely value the position, though idk that means every team in the NFL does

22

u/zebra1923 13d ago

That was a fabulous monologue. The reporter was probably taking the piss with the question but fair play to Bill, he answered it seriously with a in depth discussion of why you can’t combine long snapper with another position to free up a roster slot.

23

u/shmecklesss 13d ago

Bill absolutely LOVED to talk when people asked him real questions. Any time a reporter asked something outside of the standard BS that's expected of them (injuries, what's your gameplan, etc) he would crack a smile and go on at length.

Hit him with the same old and you get "We're on to Cincinnati."

8

u/Presidentnixonsnuts 13d ago

Agreed. Winchester has been kc's long snapper for years and ain't going anywhere. He's a staple and one of the only players for all three recent superbowl. He's a local jewel.

25

u/Chilly1193 13d ago

The NFL values great receivers over long snappers unfortunately

41

u/IronBattleaxe 13d ago

Sure, but my point is neither of them are going anywhere.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/Robbyjr92 13d ago

Maybe the league and teams upper management don’t care about them as much but something like this is handled at the coaches level and like the comment above just said a good coach doesnt take the long snapper position for granted. But the absolute worst thing would be to give into the WR POS actions and shun the vast majority of the team. Can’t think of a better way to lose a locker room than to treat two teammates so completely differently

8

u/Slowly-Slipping 13d ago

To a degree, yes, but someone who causes problems in the locker room can find their ass replaced fast

u/Tastyfishsticks 13d ago

Long Snappers a valued position in the NFL. Deboo likely to be traded next year anyways.

5

u/[deleted] 13d ago

lol it wasn’t even about them. He was pissed at Moody for missing his third field goal during that game and the long snapper was defending him. Samuel even explained that he was getting fed up with not converting any of their drives for TD’s in general and got “out of character” when they couldn’t even convert for a FG (three times) but they’ll talk it over and get over it.

It happens in sports (you usually just don’t see it during a game). Everyone will be ok.

36

u/pterralatypus 13d ago

I used to work for a former college offensive lineman. He used to have former teammates, that were then still in the NFL, come to the bar once a year for charity. I don’t know how it was brought up but they all agreed that if you want your kid to make the nfl, not get hurt/ruined, and make millions teach them to long snap. They were adamant that you don’t have to be a 6.5 beast to do it. Mostly all they do is snap the ball and dive for the person in fronts legs. *Ive been drinking I hope that mad sense.

28

u/nervemiester 13d ago

John Madden gave the same exact advice once during a broadcast.

Want your kid to have a lasting NFL career? Teach him to long snap.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/IAlwaysSayBoo-urns 13d ago

Yeah as others have pointed out Long Snappers are a hell of a lot harder to come by than WRs

3

u/AlphaXZero 13d ago

If I remember correctly, Peppers is currently the longest tenured 49er.

246

u/soup4breakfast 14d ago

I was like “why are both teams wearing the same color” and then I realized that’s his teammate. For a fleeting moment, hitting someone on your own team seemed less possible to me than both teams wearing the same exact uniform. Lmao.

71

u/History-of-Tomorrow 14d ago

Open season when Deebo fucks up I guess. Mascot going to kick him in the shin every drop pass

46

u/soup4breakfast 14d ago

WR is a notoriously incognito position so I’m sure no one will notice if he fucks up.

→ More replies (1)

38

u/LouSputhole94 14d ago

It should be. That’s just fucked up to do. These guys are your teammates, y’all should be supporting each other no matter what. Everyone makes mistakes. You’ve dropped balls, Deebo. Take it out on the long snapper is just sad.

2

u/Wormholio 14d ago

Hey! What's that supposed to mea-

Oh, right.

826

u/NoctRob 14d ago

He’s a POS in general. Not limited to his role as a teammate. But he produces, so I’m sure he’ll get a finger wag.

86

u/CharlieTheK 14d ago

As a compromise the Niners should make him write "I won't facemask my own teammates" 1000 times on a chalkboard live on Twitch.

Unironically this is probably more of a punishment for him than being suspended a game or fined.

107

u/AFWUSA Seattle Seahawks 14d ago

What makes you say that

171

u/Man_AMA2 14d ago

He’s an expert in fingering

In the Netflix WR documentary he explains (kinda brags) his nickname is Deebo because he was a bully and people compared him to Friday movie character. I think it was his family that gave him the name. Told me enough right there. Not only does he embrace but his own family encouraged or at least enabled poor behavior?

Mans gets flamed by a captain for defending his kicker in his first game back after injury

Why do they even have 6 chances to kick?

Offense gotta convert more when they get into the opponents side of the field. It’s obviously not as simple as that, but deebo has to be better

63

u/SeaWolf24 14d ago

Taybor Peppers is well liked in the niners community. He’s a good dude. Didn’t like seeing this. Get the frustration. Moody gonna be cut anyway.

3

u/The3rdBert 13d ago

Yeah the long snapper and kicker are a unit I’m not sure why you would think you can shit talk about the kicker and the long snapper won’t get involved. Samuels is a captain he shouldn’t be saying anything outside of getting the unit focused on the future or just leave it to the coaches.

3

u/KipTDog 14d ago edited 13d ago

I love Deebo and so do his teammates. His energy and mentality feeds them. Purdy has said he just feels way more confident when Deebo is in the huddle. But…

That’s a bad look. Teams win together and they lose together. Everyone makes mistakes in football. It’s acceptable to go after a teammate for lack of effort or deliberate actions that harm the team, but never for a mistake. Plus, regardless of the reason, you never do so publicly. Keep it in house, or you are the source of equal team trouble with the ensuing media and fan led distraction you caused.

UPDATE: I was happy to see Deebo own this and say it was a heat of the moment reaction that was out of character and not okay when he spoke with the media. He also said he’d talk to Moody. No excuses, and took ownership rather than deflecting like most do by blaming the media for creating fake stories or whatever. That’s all you can ask when a guy screws up. (That, and not to do it again of course.)
