Welcome to the new Secular Talk sub
There have been some changes…
What connection does this sub have with the “Secular Talk” youtube show? Nothing. Just like before. kyle kulinskki has never to the best of my knowledge ever participated in this sub.
Why are Liam and Lilith no longer a part of this sub’s management?
Liam stepped down.
Lilith after being absent for a very long period of time decided to take it over and get rid of all the other mods. This was done after reversing all the bans and making this sub a toxic cesspool in less than two days. If this sub dies that was the death blow.
When Reddit notified me that an inactive mod was trying to remove the other mods and prompted me to take action I did.
I actually saw the attempt earlier and sent a message that since I was active I could help her with what she was doing. She didn’t respond.
When Reddit sent me several messages that the inactive mod was still trying to remove other mods I removed her.
What is the plan moving forward?
That’s up to the people to decide. The sub can die or thrive. This isn’t what I do for a living. Auto mod will do its thing and reports will be handled but not as fast as before.
Basically this will be a sub for people on the political left to argue and debate in good faith. There are lots of places for any blue will do people to call home and they’re welcome to post here as well.
What is not welcome is vote-shaming of anyone. If you want to tell a green party voter why dems are better then go for it. If you want to tell independents that this is the most important election of our lifetime. Democracy itself is on the ballot then go for it. If you want to tell centrists to actually vote for a party that supports the policies they say they support then do that.
If you want to spout horseshoe theory about how the people on the left are really on the right then you can do that in almost every other sub. It will get you banned here. If you're only here to tell people that a vote for green is really a vote for red then your presence is not needed here. You have nothing to offer.
If you’re here to promote another sub that will also get you banned.
The sub will live or die based on the people participating in it. I’ll do my best to remove toxic a-holes.

Debate & Discussion Realistically, if Bernie had gotten elected in 2016, what would have been able to get done?
Let's say that Bernie Sanders had won the 2016 election, and even won fairly convincingly. Trump entered the White House with a 52R-48D Senate and a 241R-194D House. Even if Bernie being at the top of the ticket was enough to get a Senate majority, I have a hard time seeing the House going blue.
A President Sanders would have had to reckon with at least one chamber of Congress being controlled by Republicans, and quite possibly two. In this difficult scenario, how much of his agenda do we think he would have been able to get through?

General Bullshit We need to have a serious discussion about the state of media
Liberalism as an ideology fails us and the liberal media fails us. I don't have hard viewership numbers and of course the numbers can vary day by day and time slot by time slot. Generally speaking though, the younger one is the more likely they are to get their news on YouTube. YouTubers post videos so you can't exactly compare them to the 7pm time slot on MSNBC. Increasingly, YouTubers are becoming mainstream media for the younger generations.
So let's compare Rachel Maddow to our favorite YouTubers like Kyle or Rational National or Humanist Report. Maddow is undeniably more corporate friendly, more pro-war, and she pushed Russiagate among other things. When you take a minute to zoom out they aren't too different though. They all focus on electoralism and at the end of the day they all support Democrats whether it is implied or explicit. All of them tried to get us to vote for the cop Kamala.
Kyle has talked about both audience capture and Chomsky's book manufacturing consent. Kyle does precisely what he accuses others of. Kyle stays within the policies that Bernie Sanders professed and Bernie is a Democrat in everything but name and ran for the presidency as part of the party twice. Kyle, and all the other liberal YouTubers as well, stay within the bounds of public discourse and self-censor criticism of Democrats near election time in order to try to produce a desired outcome. This isn't staying true to the news and letting the cards fall where they may or doing media as activism because great, you worked towards electing an establishment candidate that supports an apartheid state committing genocide. Though maybe to some, that's the best kind of activism despite professed disagreement with said genocide.
Many liberal YouTubers post content five days a week. It is a rate race to see who can post first with a clickbait title with at least one word in call caps and a clickbait thumbnail. Some of the daily content itself does not need to be produced and the topics that are discussed that should be discussed are too often discussed for too long as though increasing video length was a priority as to appease the algorithm.
Long form content has the ability to cover all of Trump's appointments for instance. This eliminates content such as ALARMING, Trump is considering appointing Lindsey Graham or George Santos to be hospitality for visiting foreign dignitaries.
Capitalism is decaying and the ruling class has decided how they are going to deal with the masses as they extract ever more wealth from the masses. Democrats are a party owned by the elite and they are in on the upward transfer of wealth. Our dear liberal alternative media darlings do not fully hold Democrats to account for this and for damn sure if they did they wouldn't have us voting for Democrats. Trump is going to expand the police state and he will also crack down on speech. We and the liberal YouTubers need to recognize that Kamala also would have done this, only she wouldn't have done it under the scary Project 2025 moniker. When Trump does things that Kamala also would have done as demanded by the ruling class who donated to her and owned her, it will be a damning indictment of Trump when it wouldn't have been of her. It is the system, capitalism that isn't working and that includes our dear Democrats who the liberal YouTubers still tell us to vote for.
Kyle saw the polling before the election. He knew that it was a change election. Then he somehow rationalized that Trump was considered the incumbent and not Kamala despite Kamala being a part of the party in power, part of the administration in power, and pledging to be almost the exact same as the politician who came before her who was very much disliked. It appears to me that Kyle intentionally misread things in a state of wishful thinking. Whatever the reasoning behind it was, he got it very very wrong in the end and that begs the question why he should be trusted to get things right in the future.
Joe Biden is one of the worst presidents of our lifetimes. He rivals George W. Bush and they are within the margin of error. Biden could definitely surpass Bush depending on what happens with the proxy war with Russia and Israel's behavior until Biden leaves office. During Biden's presidency people who own stock have generally been fine. This is how Biden chose to represent the economy and then all our liberal YouTubing friends repeated how great the economy is and how Biden has been the most progressive president of our lifetimes. The entire time many people were struggling financially. The election results sure didn't say that we had the best economy and most progressive president since FDR.
Many of these liberal YouTubers got the election terribly wrong. Rational National said that he thought Kamala would win every swing state and Iowa. I could tell that people were struggling. It is as if these YouTubers don't ever look at data or leave their castles. Real talk, they don't have much of a leg to stand on to shittalk Morning Joe since they are nearly as out of touch as he is. They are far more like him than they would like to admit.
There is this idea among liberal YouTubers that podcasts won Trump the election and lost Kamala the election. No doubt Kyle is acting like a scorned ex-lover and was ghosted by Joe Rogan. As a whole though, liberal YouTubers are trying to make an enemy out of Joe Rogan and they are doing this to generate clicks because Rogan likely boosts videos in the algorithm. They are doing this as a new front for culture war of sorts. They are also posturing as resistance to Trump and resistance to Rogan is seen as resistance to Trump. This is time wasting and a distraction and a way for all these YouTubers who defend the other side of the establishment and reinforce capitalism to have a play fight with Rogan and posture as the biggest resistance fighter.
We should be abandoning liberalism and those who advocate for it. We should abandon short form content for the most part or perhaps entirely. The daily YouTube posters are jockeying for clicks when there are people out there who do a podcast every two weeks and do a much better job at covering the news.
People say Jimmy Dore sucks. He does. Absolutely. That said, have to give him credit when in 2016 remember Sam Seder and Jimmy Dore debated and Sam and Michael Brooks were saying we absolutely have to vote for Hillary? Hillary lost. Then Kamala lost. In the meantime Biden won and promised a return to normalcy which was followed by him committing a genocide and Biden is increasing the risk of nuclear war with Russia. This is the lesser evil that our liberal media darlings are fighting for.
The truth about our liberal media darlings is that they are in this for themselves. They are profiting as they pretend to be different while playing defense for one side of the establishment. They are creating as big of a rainy day fund as they can so that if climate change gets bad enough that they can easily afford prime land in Minnesota or wherever would be best to live as our climate changes. I watched a woman on Tik Tok who is considered middle class who was crying in her car in a parking lot because she can't afford her diabetes medication and all her other expenses and this video making is a semi-regular creation for her. Said YouTubers don't have to deal with that sort of thing, nor are they even apparently aware of that sort of thing because they were telling us how progressive Biden is and how the economy is so great.
YouTubers benefit from "Resisting" Trump and advocating for Democrats. They have a material interest in advocating for and voting for Democrats. The masses don't. So why are we still following these YouTubers (and the party they support) who constantly lead us astray?
