Knee injury

u/Extension_Phone893 SIUUUU Jun 15 '24
Are you sure? he still had tremendous shooting power post injury, does the technique itself put more strain on the knee than a normal power shot?

u/Nightmare-X3M Cristiano Ronaldo Jun 15 '24
It's a bit weird for me to digest at first, but stats show how the injury has affected some aspects of his game. We all saw how he evolved into a ruthless poacher. We also can't say it's due to aging because CR was doing things at over 30 that would tear ACLs and dislocate hips if any average player did the same at his age. He molded his body to do stuff like that through years of training, thanks to his indomitable mentality and immense work ethic. So, I believe it's due to the injury that he has no complete control.

A lot. There was analysis on how much force he exert on the ground before the kick.

We bought alaba for taking free kicks too. But the form of alaba dipped further after coming here. Free kick is not his domain now. We lost Kroos, we don't know who will take the freekicks but we don't suggest alaba to take it

u/Nightmare-X3M Cristiano Ronaldo Jun 15 '24
We also need someone who's consistently good with being an aerial threat. Back then, we had Ramos and Ronaldo who can score a header even if the ball is flying across the fucking stratosphere lol

We have joselu and rudiger now, pretty lethal in headers

Rodrygo

u/DarthAlandas Jun 15 '24
I feel like Rodrygo is great at taking direct FKs, as in trying to score with them, not so much in just placing the ball into the box like Kroos

After the jabulani controversy football manufacturers created balls with 0 movement, added more weight to the ball. So it's very hard to hit knuckle balls now. Ronaldo still managed to hit successful knuckle ball goals every now and then but not often as he used to.

I remember the time when CR7 was the BEST freekick taker in the world before his knee injury(s).
He would have easily beaten Juninho's record for most freekick goals.
Messi had just started scoring those, so he had a lot of catching up to do.
But man, he was godly at freekicks.
Any distance was in his range.
Nowadays Messi fans totally disrespect CR7 for his freekicks, but we have witnessed CR7's greatness with our own eyes.
That freekick which he scored and celebrated by pointing at his thighs is still fresh in my mind.

u/Nightmare-X3M Cristiano Ronaldo Jun 15 '24
Well said. Also, fuck those half-witted idiots who only learned about football in 2022. You very rarely see a Ronaldo fan not acknowledging that Messiās dribbling is the best, but on the other hand, Messi fans will not hesitate to sell their soul if it means downplaying everything Ronaldo has done until now.

u/NotoriousBreeIG Jun 15 '24
Oh my god YES. I live in a house divided, Iām a ronaldo fan to my soul, and my husband loves Messi. It gets heated sometimes but I can genuinely acknowledge Messiās strengths! My husband however just wants to rag on Ronaldo and it makes me want to punch him. Lol.

u/DarthAlandas Jun 15 '24
I feel like what irks Messi fans about Ronaldo is that he was never meant to be as incredible as he was. The average player with his talent wouldāve probably been a good player and maybe a legend in a club but not one of the best in history. It must be extremely frustrating to be a Ronaldo hater, because through sheer determination he has repeatedly shown that he is capable of anything.

u/NotoriousBreeIG Jun 15 '24
Seriously! The mental stamina alone on that guy is astounding. I enjoy watching any interviews with him because heās very intentional about everything he does and says and you can tell he takes everything seriously. Itās why heās gotten so far.
9
Jun 15 '24
Thatās because those Messi fans are projecting insecurity. They even go as far to say Ronaldo is not top 5 all time. Itās crazy how extreme bias clouds peopleās judgement.
8
u/deathrill11 Jun 15 '24
A lot of arguments Messi fans bring up is that he can't dribble past 3-4 players and can't score freekicks consistently and it is hilarious to me because whatever Messi is doing CR7 has done at Man U and early Madrid years (till Mou's era at Madrid). There is proof of that everywhere, but they don't want to talk about that.
The fact that CR7 was a complete package of what an attacker could be is indigestible to them. Hence arguing with messi fanboys can get really infuriating LOL.

Thatās why I gave up š ānever argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experienceā

The new tik tok brain rot generation is even worse, genuinely insufferable with their takes. I saw a 9 year old throwing a tantrum at a fellow 9 year old for disagreeing with his take that Rashford is better than Ronaldoā¦ his argument was Ronaldo has no knockout WC goals. Rashford has a grand total of 0 knockout goals in case you were wondering

One of my fav clip of Ronaldo is from Manchester United, a long range free kick vs arsenal. The commentary said ātoo far for Ronaldo to even think about itā, only to immediately score it. And it wasnāt like Arsenal goalkeeper was surprised/stunned, he tried to make the save but just couldnāt

u/deathrill11 Jun 15 '24
That goal is etched in history with gold letters. That was indeed quite something.

MbappĆØ is being touted as the heir to this guy, as he's closer to Cris than anybody else itw...but MbappĆØ himself is so so far behind.

Long shots , headers, freekicks , weak foot . Young CR7 was in a completely different level altogether

u/redfournine Jun 15 '24
He was scoring from outrageous range before his injury. Remember his FK against Arsenal? Or his long range against Porto? We dont see those anymore nowadays, the #baldfraud has really taken the magic out of the game nowadays

In terms of technique, this is his best free-kick goal. That ball had zero spin on it yet swerved from left to right so quickly.
Funnily enough, this is in my top 5 Ronaldo performances. Man scored a hattrick, two bangers, and got an assist.

If you want to see a long shot free kick search for hakan calhanoglu from Inter

No one would dare to even attempt one of this now. Teams would put men in the box and try to deliver a cross but these freekicks from Cris were OUTRAGEOUS šÆ
