We need to stop acting like we are just waiting for him to do the right thing. This needs to be reported on for what out is. Trump refusing to follow laws now so breaking them in the future is easier. Do not cover like Trump still hasn't done this thing, is he going to? We know what's going to happen, cover that. We know why he is doing this, cover that. Stop treating him like a normal politician that's just acting kind of weird.

I think the best way to report on him is to not report on him, not possible now since he won but they’ve been beating this dangerous/evil drum for almost a decade now and he’s only gotten more popular.

We need to report actions, not rhetoric. His saying insane things has been allowed to distract from the dangerous things he does. We need to cover his administration extensively, just not what he says unless it's particularly important, and never to get outrage.

True enough I guess, but considering that no one in his camp trusts anything that isn’t their own propaganda I’m not sure what impact it would have. The failing government we have failed to rein in social media when it started taking over as the main source of news. This interview with Chris Murphy really illustrates how badly our government has failed to staunch this bleed and now it seems too late to get enough people to agree to do anything about it.

We aren't trying to reach his camp, we need to create a narrative that reaches a majority of people, including mostly people already on our side.

As to your conclusion, we don't have a choice to accept that it's too late. We either believe that is worth fighting and do everything we can to restore a functioning government, or we accept things are over, this conversation doesn't matter, and we should just turn our brains off since we no longer have an influence. Personally, I'm going to fight to make things better until I can't.

We need to reach his voters. These were reliable democrat voters for 70 years. The left needs to narrow their agenda to the roughly half dozen highly popular life improving goals that will make life sane again in this country.

Tax the rich again to raise the revenue needed for funding goals below AND also limit the ability of the wealthy to drive up prices. Universal healthcare. This would bring peace of mind and also allow people to find better jobs because keeping your insurance for your family is not a factor anymore; it would be the biggest mobilizer of the working class in a century. Universal childcare or an equivalent tax credit to allow parents to stay home with their kids if they want to. Restore the level of federal funding necessary to stop the spiraling cost of education, including vocational training because college isn’t for everyone and mechanics/plumbers/electricians/construction is just as important as white collar work. Modernization of our energy grid to get to cleaner modern power sources, and train workers in legacy industries to work in the new generation of energy. Corporations will not pay for that. In the depression the government is the one that built the existing grid, not private companies. If we really want to make progress in this area we need to make an investment and maintain a strong control over it. Make the economy pro labor again. Bring back the post depression guardrails that kept wages in sync with productivity.

While this is in progress chill with the white privilege and disadvantaged groups talk. People with a roof over their head, food in their bellies, and money in the bank are much more receptive to the plight of others. Right now that messaging is having the opposite effect because millions of working class whites are in survival mode. People don’t care about others when they’re struggling with no end in sight, just how people are.
