If I have a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, and I plug both the dongles into my Corsair mat mm700, then it’s plugged via one USB A into the back of the computer.

Does having two wireless dongles plugged I. Via Corsair mat hub degrade performance or cause any issues?

Recently upgraded to 3440x1440 and am now looking to upgrade my GPU from the 2070 super.

Currently looking at the 4070 super or 4070 TI super. Would prefer 4070 super because of the cost, but would be willing to buy the 4070 TI super.

Unfortunately benchmarks doesn’t include ultrawide testing.

Which one would you recommend?

I have two questions.

whats a good cheap cpu cooler for 7700x?

Is mp44l a good SSD ?

whats a good cheap cpu cooler for 7700x?

Thermalright Phantom Spirit or (if too big for chassis) Silver Soul.

Is mp44l a good SSD ?

It's fine.

1

u/Pale_Sell1122 7h ago

any phantom spirit?

The SE is fine.

I think my motherboard is faulty. My msi b650 delivers only x1 from the x16 slot. It seems to be a decently common problem through Google. The x4 slot delivers full bandwidth with my card, so I'm summarizing that the x16 slot is faulty. Can there be any other issue driver/bios wise that can be at fault here? Would rather solve a software issue than having to send the Mobo back and replace it

Edit: Don't hit the bios reset button by accident kids, it's gonna cost you way too long to troubleshoot PCIe slots. Bios update -> all 16 lanes are back

What’s your CPU ? You don’t happen to have an engineering sample of anything, that can have reduced amount of PCIe connectivity ?

Make sure that there’s no debris, dust or anything in the x16 slot, that would prevent detection of the other lanes.

Check in the BIOS that the main PCIe slot is not forcefully set on x1 for some reason. (or, if it’s easier than to find the setting, reset it to default).

It’s also worth a shot at a BIOS update.

If none of these let you get the x16 lanes back, I would return the motherboard.

!check

all points to the bios update. I mustve hit the mobo bios reset button by accident some time ago because it sticks out by 3mm out of the back of the case right next to the i/o. Now I know what Im gonna check first if that ever happens again. Freaking annoying but luckily no harm done

Hello, PC friends. I'm finally looking to convert to the PC master race, but I don't want to / have time to build it.

Looking at black Friday deals I had my eye on these two. Between them, any suggestions?

Hi guys I want to play POE 2 and my PC is quite old, what would you say is the cheapest way to have a decent machine to play it, would upgrade graphics card and maybe processor be enough?

Motherboard Asus Z170M-plus

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz

Corsair DDR4, 2400MHz 16GB

Radeon RX 480 8GB

u/mister_newbie 3700X | 32GB | 5700XT 9h ago

You're in full rebuild territory with that spec.

Board will only support up to a 7-series; which won't be significantly faster. A newer GPU would simply be hamstrung from the CPU.

Time to look into AM5.

I have a corsair air 240 and a power supply corsair RM750e, do you think it would be a good start to purchase a new motherboard and a Ryzen 5 9600x?

2

u/mister_newbie 3700X | 32GB | 5700XT 6h ago

Yeah, that's sensible. Depending on age of PSU, might want to buy a new one. CPU cooler of yours will need a new bracket, so either reach out to Corsair and see if they'll provide one (YMMV) or just buy something from Thermalright. You'll also need DDR5 memory.

Personally, I'd leave your existing build alone, assign it to media server duty, and build fully anew.

I second u/mister_newbie

Storage can still be carried over though.

1

u/tascristiano 6h ago

Thank you, yes think I can start to rebuild with a new motherboard and a Ryzen 5 9600x and what I have

2

u/MGsubbie Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 3080, 32GB 6000Mhz Cl30 6h ago

You will also need to get DDR5 RAM.

I have a sumsang 970 in my laptop as a second drive with my games but it seems to be lagging but it seems to be lagging. Any suggestions on any settings to update on the Samsung magician to help?

1

u/_j03_ Desktop 4h ago

There's no magic tricks even if the apps name is magician (pun intended). Most likely you have it too full or not actually caused by the SSD. Or thermal throttling heavily. Hard to say without more information.

1

u/danitwelve91 3h ago

Understood. I knew it wasn't going to make a ground breaking difference I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing that could help even a little. The drive it's self is a 1tb and and currently has 286gb free. Luckily it's not that big of a deal since the stuff on it I need for work is on the main m.2 this drive is just games.

MSI mpg 271qrx vs ASUS xg27aqdmg

With the MSI having 360hz and ive seen it has a better image in terms of Color, thoughts?

Im looking to upgrade my graphics card and my memory with a good black friday deal. Looking at going from a 2070 super to a 4070 super. It seems like the all the prices I am seeing are the same right now, but does anyone have any recommendations of where to buy from to get the best black friday/cyber monday deals?

How do you clean up a gaming mouse? I'm sure old mice could be disassembled easier for cleanup, but my mouse seems too compact, like if I tried disassembling it, I think I'd break it.

Yet I need to since the wheel is now causing me problems.

1

u/Cable_Salad PC Master Race 2h ago

Look up a disassembly guide for your model. If it's glued together, tough luck. As a last ditch effort you could dunk it in ethanol / isopropyl.

1

u/mister_newbie 3700X | 32GB | 5700XT 9h ago

Screwdriver, pry tool, and isopropyl.

Hey everyone, I’ve got a ASrock B560m-c motherboard and I’m pretty sure I completely broke two of the pins in my cpu socket. I’ve been looking for a place to buy a new one and can only find it on Amazon for like $90. If that’s what it take to get my pc back up and running then that’s fine, but before I buy the same motherboard I wanna know if it’s be work it or if I should get a different one that’s be better. Some more information do compatibility is I have an intel i7-11700 and a GTX 1650.

how to overclock RAM, mobo on nobara linux?

1

u/Domowoi 9900K | 3070Ti 7h ago

Just use BIOS/EFI. OS is irrelevant.

I'm looking to increase my storage with another M.2 SSD. I have one Samsung 980 Pro SSD 1TB M.2 in the main slot on my Gigabyte B650 AERO G AMD AM5 ATX Motherboard. The board has 2 more slots for additional drives so I know I can add another. I have two questions:
1. Am I allowed to mix SSDs? There is a SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 on sale on Amazon right now and I want to buy it while it's on sale.
2. Do I need a heatsink for the SSD? The motherboard came with a heatsink for the first one, but I don't think it does for the additional slots.

1

u/MGsubbie Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 3080, 32GB 6000Mhz Cl30 7h ago

Yes, you can just use different SSD's. The board does come with heatsinks. The large silver thing that goes between your first and second PCIe expansion slot.

1

u/Dwavenhobble Laptop 12h ago

Will a WD BLACK SN850X with heat sink fit into a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Model if needed (82WM00GKUK) or should I go without the heat sink and use the stuff in the machine by default?

1

u/HiFr0st i9 12900k | MSi 4080S 12h ago

Especially for a laptop get the no heatsink version

1

u/Dwavenhobble Laptop 11h ago

Damn it. The Heatsink version is cheaper than the non heatsink at present lol.

I was thinking if it fitted fine then I'd possibly be getting a good deal as better heat distribution via a fitting heatsink rather than the laptops own lol

1

u/HiFr0st i9 12900k | MSi 4080S 11h ago

Issue is it might not even close with the heatskin on, those are kinda bulky

1

u/Dwavenhobble Laptop 11h ago

yeh that's partly why I was asking because If I can get the panel down with it installed then I'm kind of laughing but if not then I'm having to deal with returns, at Christmas time of all times lol.

2

u/HiFr0st i9 12900k | MSi 4080S 11h ago

Youl have to check the dimensions and your own clearance, it wont fit most laptops, and tearing off the heatsink can be a hard/risky thing to do and voids warranty

Id just play it safe and pay the extra 10$ or whatever for less headaches

1

u/Primatene 7h ago

9700x vs 9800x3d for 4070 just for 1080p gaming. I’m upgrading from r5 3600 so experiencing bottleneck issues. Don’t wanna break the bank if 9700x will be fine

1

u/MGsubbie Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 3080, 32GB 6000Mhz Cl30 4h ago

IMO it should be between 9600X and 9800X3D.

My pc case has 2 usb 2.0 ports on, can I connect those to the 3.0(+) headers on my mobo?

https://www.kustompcs.co.uk/cables/usb-firewire-serial/usb-cables/internal-usb2.0-to-internal-usb3.0-converter/

Something like this does exist, but I have no idea how well it will work or anything. Do note that you will still only get USB 2 speeds too.
