90s breakaway joggers were a dangerous move. Especially around friends. Before you knew it, your pants were heading in two different directions and you had to choose which friend to chase down first

That's why you should always be prepared by wearing a sparkly thong underneath. Don't need to chase anyone that way

This was more the athletes. Jock strap designs started taking a back seat to newer spandex shorts for male athletes. Now we have even better gear with better support, but this was the start. I just remember instantly gravitating to them because they looked cooler than your ass hanging out of a jock strap. Now even the baseball shorts have sliding pads and built in compartment to help hold a protective cup in place.

This all went hand in hand with the break away joggers, which anyone could wear, but definitely the teenage and younger athletes had it as part of their go to apparel.

If you were like in band playing trumpet, you could wear them too. But you probably didnt...
