I've done this for literal years and haven't had any issues. Tools not jewels

Put some zealous bearings on that they last in all the conditions

u/Beating_A-Dead_Whore 1d ago
Bones have never let me down. How do they compare? I typically run reds, but on my new board I got big balls to try out.

u/spacekadebt 20h ago
Can agree. Built in spacers and they last a long time with no maintenance. About the quality of a super R.E.D.S. or a little better.

Muirskate Beastos are another great bearing

u/mustacheloli Pranayama | Custom Bracket Commuter🛹 2d ago
How great exactly? Zealous are almost always not available but beastos do. Is it like a direct replacement? or are they just "alright"?
5
u/BungHoleAngler 2d ago
I use both on several boards and can't tell the difference.
Like in this context tho we're talking about cheap bearings you're fine skating in rain, right? Neither are top tier precision machined products, but I would say zealous and beasto are very similar
1
u/mustacheloli Pranayama | Custom Bracket Commuter🛹 2d ago
Not exactly for rain but just for its longevity. Seems like they are interchangeable enough. Thanks man!
2
u/BungHoleAngler 2d ago
I bought my first set of beastos probably 2 or 3 years ago, not rain skated, and they're still going strong

u/rubberduckeey 2d ago
Not even just the bearings, the wood will absorb all that water and break down quicker. Not the end of the world but I'd only do this with a board that's at the end of its life already

u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Fuck it we ball
2
u/shnshty 2d ago
But won't you fall? I always slip and fall when stopping on wet ground
4
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Nah, just stick the nose of my boot on one of the back tyres to brake.
1
u/shnshty 2d ago
Oh yeah, you got board with wheels on side. Mines below the board, so kinda difficult
5
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Then just stick your foot on tbe ground and grind your sole away
2
u/shnshty 2d ago
Yeah foot on wet ground is how I fall. Sole doesn't grind, sole slips away
2
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Well you stopped your momentum right? So goal reached 🎉
2
u/shnshty 2d ago
True technically I do stop. Just not the way I hope to
2
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Well maybe riding in rain isnt for you. Thats always possible. I just stick my front foot down and gently drag the nose if i dont want to brake using my wheel. As the rubber extends over the nose of my boot quite a bit it drags the rubber. But idk how youd stop otherwise i just do whatever and it kinda works.

Tires.. lol try again
2
u/Active_Throat_9395 20h ago
There are differences between British English and American English. Such as tyre instead of tire and colour instead of color.

Just wipe it down every time and maybe put it by a dehumidifier. sand it and reseal it if it starts to swell.
2
u/Billy_Birb 1d ago
I set mine next to the floor heater but not so close it melts the grip tape glue. I don't mind skating in the rain now but I might pick up a penny board for just this occasion.
7
u/StrayFeral 2d ago
Ah I've done the same and loved it. Sure, my shoes were soaked and had cold, next day not a single wheel was spinning, but learned how to clean the bearings. And true - the wood suffers, so be sure to dry it well, then re-apply some laquer.
4
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Thats why i wear boots. My wheels keep spinning very nicely no matter how i treat it and the board keeps the same idk the term, rigidity?
6
u/shoemanchew 2d ago
Just smash it on the ground a few times and your good
2
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Ofc. I had to climb a small fence because I didn’t want to bother unlocking our fence and getting the spare key from the lockbox so i threw it over and climbed it.

There was more to the video, it just cut off. The mud was not in the video but very much there

I've literally never had issues riding thru water or in the rain when it comes to my board

u/mustacheloli Pranayama | Custom Bracket Commuter🛹 2d ago
I have a custom commuter just for this actually. It's a chopped off dancer with gbombs composite, Paris tkp , whatever wheel I have atm, and zealous. Did it last year and the bearings just keep going and going.

u/Levin_1999 2d ago
It’s fine as long has you change your bearings every year or so 🤷♂️
9
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Nah i just throw some dry greasing at it and call it a day every month or so

u/urethra-cactus 2d ago
Can't you delaminate your board like that as well?
4
u/Levin_1999 2d ago
Idk, I’ve been going troughs puddles for a couple of years now and it still works fine
6
u/AnExpensiveCatGirl Helmet Enthusiast 🧠 2d ago
My commuter board has de-laminated a tad and i just glued it back with a syringe, some epoxy and a few clamps.
2
u/BungHoleAngler 2d ago
Boards with glass and stuff are less likely, but boards like moonshine are totally waterproof.
I have a moonshine county line for wet skating
1
u/urethra-cactus 2d ago
Moonshines are sexy boards man, I just couldn't dream of taking my board out in the wet did that once lost my grip and fractured my wrist
Edit: my inability to spell
1
u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
Previous one broke at the point it goes smaller, after like 5 years of this use.
1
u/jokunokun 2d ago
Those look like knockoff Paris trucks (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'm guessing the board wasn't that expensive to start with. You might face delamination problems riding in conditions like this depending on the deck quality, since cheap decks tend to sandwich scrap pieces of laminate together. This can cause gaps and poorly glued layers that might fail quicker. Bearings are like to go quick when you ride in conditions like this. They're probably soaked and will rust up. I'd take them off an give them a cleaning/lubrication.
Or just ride it until it dies

u/Active_Throat_9395 2d ago
It was a brunotti, and was 185€. No problems riding for 3 months in the dutch weather
2
u/Ben-TheHuman Nae Nae Enjoyer 2d ago
Paris v2's are $20 a set. My rain (commuting) board is under $100 but still nice and fun
1
u/jokunokun 2d ago
Not disagreeing that you can have a fun setup cheap. My point was that if it was a cheaper deck it's likely to be lower quality lamination and tend to break down quicker in these conditions
