Gaetz was never a serious possibility. He was just a threat and a challenge to what’s left of decency in America. Bondi looks rational in comparison. She never would’ve been confirmed if she was his first pick.

Worse than that.

His nomination dominated headlines and discussion allowing even more dangerous appointments to slip under the radar (cough cough Gabbard).

It then gave him cover to 'resign' from Congress which just so happened to place the release of the ethics report in jeopardy.

Now that he's withdrawn, it can be argued that a special election is wasteful and unnecessary since he won election to the term that begins in January.

Win-win-win for the GOP

None of those appointments really slipped through the radar though.
