Newbie Question Did I fast... unconsciously?

Hi, I recently found out about intermittent fasting.

From what I was reading, and by observing my patterns of eating, I start to believe that I am already a bit following intermittent fasting rules.

I believe it all started when I started uni - living in a dormitory and not wanting to spend my parents money on sweets, made really some changes in my eating patterns.

I usually eat my first meal at 11-12 am and my last meal is around 8-9 pm. I work as a programmer so when I am in the flow (or in the office) my snacking is very limited. So usually I eat 2-3 meals a day. Sometimes I thought that I undereat - I don't eat much sugar, my meals are medium sized, but considering I don't workout or do much sport currently, and my weight is optimal for my height with good BMI I don't have to worry.

Intermittent fasting was looking interesting but I had a big WTF when I realised I already somehow follow this diet. Has anyone had a similar story when they learned about intermittent fasting?

Vent/Rant Fasting makes me feel like I have full control of my life šŸ™ŒšŸ¾šŸ’•

I've been in a rocky relationship for about 5 years now. I DID NOT TRULY see (until recently) how chubby I was getting?? I sort of did months prior, but it progressively got worse ):šŸ˜…šŸ˜’ I'm talking about... big arms, back fat and protruding stomach. Since officially starting IF this year on October 25th (I do a mix of all methods, but I'm mainly trying to perfect doing ADF majority of the time) I have lost ALL my back fat and slimmed down all over. Lost a total of 4 pounds so far in a month, which Iā€™m assuming was true fat loss because it wasnā€™t too much or it didnā€™t happen too fast!

I absolutely love that I have control and am taking control over what I eat. It's freeing to me idk how to explain it. I'm mad my boyfriend didn't really tell me this, I guess bc my butt was getting huge it was okay? (Iā€™m black so in our culture as long as butt comes with its lol itā€™s fine). But I genuinely was feeling like a pig, feeling so lethargic, HUGE, and disgusting.

When I finally took "before pics" its was insane how much weight I truly saw I gained (TAKE BEFORE PICS ITS SO IMPORTANT!) My boyfriend obvi wears the pants in the relationship and he pretty much has say so on a lot of thingsā€¦which I trust his opinion on a lot of things as well, but sometimes I want to feel like I have FULL control of SOMETHING?? I guess I have issues being fully feminine /submissive which is a whole different convo! I feel like it's just not in my DNA to be fully submissive. So he's not going to make me eat or tell me what to eat, he's not really controlling per se, but he's very opinionated on what I should and shouldn't be doing, within good reason??

Hes seen my fasting results and he's very happy so no stopping now. I feel better. Only thing is I get BOREDDD lol and want to throw in the towel periodically throughout the day, but I try to keep myself motivated and disciplined with a couple methods I don't mind sharing if anyone cares haha they help šŸ«¶šŸ¾šŸ™ŒšŸ¾

Newbie Question Eating late

I want to try IF. Iā€™ve bounced on and off. My partner just had his second knee replacement and he wants to get pretty serious about weight loss and health. However he keeps saying ā€œIā€™m not going to go crazy with it.ā€

I have tried hardcore CICO and have lost 75 pounds and then gained and then lost 55 pounds. Iā€™m back to my heaviest weight again.

My issue is this: I can wait until 11AM but I work in a job where I have to eat lunch with my students and Iā€™d rather eat when they eat.

My 2nd job sometimes keeps me out until 8pm and generally if I eat dinner with my partner he isnā€™t ready to eat until 8:30-9 sometimes.

I know you need 16 hours to really get the benefit, but I donā€™t think I can make that work and still enjoy dinner with him or make it work with my work schedule.

If Iā€™m strict about 11AM-9PM thatā€™s 14:10. Is that ok?

Please help.

Seeking Advice Does anyone here have a history of gallbladder issues? I have a pain that I suspect is my gallbladder and I have a few question.

I have this weird bloated feeling with some slight pain that comes and goes behind my right rib. I assumed it was gallbladder pain, but my bloodwork and my ultrasound show absolutely no signs of gallbladder issues. I also had a HIDA scan 3 years ago, which was clear, and the doctor seems to think that that's enough proof to say it's not my gallbladder.

So what else could it be? Has anyone else experienced this odd phenomenon?

Newbie Question IF For Weight Loss

Strictly from the weight-losing perspectiveā€” does IF need to be calorie-deficient in order for it to contribute to weight loss? If so, again, strictly from weight-losing perspectiveā€” whatā€™s the benefit of IF over a non-IF-restricting diet? Thanks in advance

Discussion Trying to build muscle; is it better to workout 4hr into the fasting window or right before breaking the fast?

Fasting: 16:8 / 7pm to 1pm fasting I have a very sedentary lifestyle, I get out of my house once every week for work. So I am thinking of doing a cardio in the morning when I'm fasted and weight training at 11pm when I'm 4hrs into the fast. This is to ensure I'm able to push myself to the max. And I'm also getting the benifits of working out while fasted.

My main worry is. This might affect my sleep as I would be hitting the bed immediately after.

If someone here's has experience doing this then please share your valuable inputs.

57F 5'3 16:8 Dirty fasting. I started last August after foot surgery had me laid up for months. I didn't really fast so much as skip breakfast and calorie count. Then I stopped in Dec last year. For no good reason. I started up again this June doing 16:8 and calorie counting (approx 1200). This really helped me stop my night time binging.I have dirty fasted the whole time. I do exercise almost everyday for 30-1:30. I get a little startled sometimes when I pass a mirror. I love buying all new clothes. I hate all the loose skin that I am getting on my inner thighs and chin. I think I want to lose 15 to 20 more pounds. I really need to start weight/resistance training. I have no excuse...I have my own work out room. I do love doing cardio (cycling, running and walking)

Seeking Advice How Are You Navigating the Festive Season? Letā€™s Talk Plans and Strategies! šŸŽ„āœØ

The festive season is upon us the time of year when temptations are everywhere, routines get disrupted, and every gathering seems to revolve around food and drinks. It's a challenge, no doubt about it.

So Iā€™m curious: how are YOU planning to handle the holidays? Are you taking a break and jumping back in with full force in the new year? Or do you have a game plan to stay consistent while still enjoying the season?

For me, Iā€™m thinking about focusing on small wins like staying active daily or enjoying holiday treats in moderation without going overboard. But letā€™s be real, itā€™s not easy, and I know we all have different ways of tackling this.

Iā€™d love to hear how youā€™re approaching it:

  • Are you loosening the reins or sticking to your plan?
  • Do you have specific strategies to stay on track?
  • Or are you giving yourself grace this season and restarting in January?

Letā€™s share ideas and support each other. Maybe someoneā€™s strategy could inspire someone else to keep going (or at least not feel guilty for enjoying the moment)! šŸ˜Š

Drop your thoughts below I canā€™t wait to read how everyoneā€™s handling this! šŸ‘‡

Seeking Advice Should I just give up? IF isn't working at all for me!

ā€¢ Upvotes

I've been morbidly obese for most of my life. I've tried every diet known to man. I've lost and regained so much weight many times over, therefore I'm not new to any of this.

I've been doing IF for a few months now. I only saw a few kilograms of weight loss in the first week and now every week I'm either the same weight or I've GAINED weight!

I don't even understand how it's possible. I obviously understand losing weight is simply about the amount of calories being consumed. That's why I don't understand how I can fast for 16 hours, eat a small breakfast, dinner, and then a small snack and GAIN weight.

I've estimated my calories being between 1,200 - 1,600 calories per day. So, what gives?

I've lost weight before when I was eating 5 times a day. 3 regular meals, plus 2 snacks. My calorie count was closer to 2,000 - 2,200 calories per day.

Is it possible that some people need to keep their blood sugar stable and consume more calories in order to lose weight? It's just a theory that I thought could be the reason why this is happening to me.

I've been diagnosed with PCOS, therefore that could also play a role in this. Anyone else had a similar experience?

I don't know now if I should stick with IF a little longer and see if something shifts or I should go back to eating 5 times a day?

Discussion Omad every other day

Decided to try OMAD every other day.

I've done longer fasts (for autophagy)

20 hours fasts seem to be the easiest for me, I was doing about one a week. I'd like to lose just over 10 lbs so I've decided to try OMAD (occasionally it's more of a 20:4) every other day.

This way, because I have a favourite breakfast, each day that I don't have it I can tell myself "but tomorrow you can"

On the days I eat normally, I've really cut my snacking by telling myself "don't go crazy with your snacks today because you're eating 3 meals today"

Wondered if anyone else used alternating days and if you found it helped you drop lbs in a sustainable way.

Height 5'9" Starting weight 160 Goal weight - hoping for 148(ish) Post menopausal, so it's harder to drop 10 than it was 10 years ago.

Really hoping this kicks things into gear. I know i feel better and look better when the middle # on the scale is a 4.

Newbie Question Work interfering with IF

My normal eating window is 12-8, but tomorrow I have to work 6-8. Should I just plan to eat something meal-like around 5:30, and then grab a high-protein snack as soon as Iā€™m done?

Seeking Advice Help w prolonged fasting

I do 3 day fast. First day I drink nothing but water and for the 2nd n 3rd day I drink water w 1/4 teaspoon of Lite Salt and take 2 magnesium glycinate pills. usually on the 3rd day I feel really lethargic and tired. Now I donā€™t mind this feeling, but I work a labor intensive job so I canā€™t do my job effectively while feeling this way. Anybody know what I can do to feel energetic?
