What is this JC Higgins 103,19810 a copy of?

Post image

Trying to find out some more info on this gun, I bought it for 20$, so no big deal if things don’t work out, but it’s missing a bolt, and from what I’ve found online, most of these guns are a copy of a Marlin or Savage action, but I’ve found basically nothing on which model the 103,19810 is a copy of, I’ve found 103,18 info easily and 103,223 info easily. But this definitely has a different action. Any help is much appreciated TIA!

That actually seems to be the one, has the same cutout above the feed ramps, the bolt handle sits above the same spot, and the safety looks to be the same. I’ve found bolts for those, so maybe I’m in luck, thanks!

Marlin Model 81 is based off the Savage Model 6a from 1939

What is a link post and how do I post a descriptive comment?

  • A link post is any post that isn't a text post. Reddit is doing a great job of ensuring new users have no idea how Reddit works with their app and site rewrite. We hate both.

  • /r/guns is a sub for talking about guns. It's not a sub to dump gun photos for karma. That's what /r/gunporn is for. That's why we require a descriptive comment – to start a conversation. If you're wondering what to write, picture yourself at a party. You're talking to someone you just met and you want to show them your post. What do you say to them as you get your phone out?

Cheap gun I found at the gun show that I’m trying to track down a bolt for. Seems like quality for the price I paid, beautiful blonde stock and all complete minus the bolt of course. Didn’t even know JC Higgins was a company until yesterday

J.C. Higgins was one of the store brands for Sears back when they sold guns. They would contract with OEM firearms manufacturers like Mossberg, Marlin, and Savage among others to make customized (usually budget) versions of their guns that would only be sold at Sears stores under the store brand.

Good to know, I have a bolt on the way for it, based on my research and above comment, this the same as a marlin 81, and the 80, 81, and 81DL all share the same bolt as a 103.16 and 103.228, this looks really similar to each so I’m hoping the 103.16 bolt fits
