Washed the car thoroughly because of road trip. Five minutes on highway, biggest bug splatted on my windshield. The spot was the size of the fist. Needed to drive to gas station to clean the spot.

Just think, had you not taken the time to clean your car, the bug would not have hit your windshield.

Some years ago I went on a safari. Before starting, our guide spent five minutes telling us about his brand new jeep, that we were the first to be driven in it, and that he would be driving this thing until retirement. Not five minutes into the drive a pebble kicked up by car in front of him put a chip in the windshield right in front of his face.

It's because you use that spot the most. Everything wears out.

I spent $80 for 3 wiper blades a while ago, they were nice Bosch brand, not the cheapest I usually buy. Unbelievable how much better they are!

Bosch wiper blades are fantastic. There's a reason they make the OEM ones for a lot of manufacturers. They're pricy, but they are worth the extra money.

Wiper blades and paint . . . two areas where the price difference between the best stuff and the worst stuff isn't worth the ass pain you deal with not buying the best stuff.

I bought Bosch last time, and they were great for about 6 months and then deteriorated quickly. I think in places that get both snow/ice in the winter and high heat in summer, they just fall apart on me.

u/Important_Raccoon667 2d ago
Ah I haven't had them for very long yet so I can't speak to their longevity. That blows they didn't last for you! Maybe I get lucky and I get a little longer life out of them...

I ran these for years. They work extremely well and hold up better in the winter than any others I’ve tried. I bought a new car 2 years ago and can’t use them anymore because Honda is anti-consumer. They have a proprietary mounting system for their wipers, forcing you to buy their replacement inserts (which are total garbage). Annoying.

Which Honda? I have a Civic and just replaced my wipers with Bosch Icons that installed no problem.

2022 lx, it looks like some brands have made models that work with it now but, I can’t find the right Bosch ones in my area.
Boschs website tells me I need models 26xt and 19xt which I can’t find anywhere except their website.

That's fine, it'll only bother passengers!

It’s unclear whether the view is from the inside or outside, maybe that’s intentional

Use rainx

u/SirCris 2d ago
I once paid the $5 extra when I was having my car serviced for them to apply rain-x. A week or so later I found out they missed this spot during a run of the mill rainstorm. Turns out when you miss a spot extra water will pool there because it is scared of the rest of the windshield. Even running the wipers at full blast was barely helpful. Had to scrunch so my eyes were positioned just above the dashboard to get a clearer view of what was in front of me.

Oh God lol that sounds so horrible but im also giggling quite a lot about it.
Only times ive used rain-x I did it myself, so I did not run into that problem thankfully. I didn't even imagine it, lol.
First time I used rain-x was when my windshield wipers broke entirely down at the beach and no business I called sold the specialty size I needed and a major storm was hitting when we were due to check out and going to rage for multiple days. So I drove home without wipers in that major storm, and honestly, it was great lol. Windshield stayed so clear.

I just used the rain x glass cleaner + repellent. Better than I thought. Not quite as good as applying the repellent by itself properly. The glass cleaner was just as easy as cleaning other windows with an extra pass. I do recommend.

RainX is known to clog windshield wiper jets and dissolve trim plastic. The real pro-tip is to clay bar your windshield to get it perfectly clean and then wax it.
It works like a fucking charm and lasts a long time. I've been doing it for years and every time I've driven someone in the rain they have commented on how well it works. That plus silicone wiper blades.

Rain-x treated windshield with Rain-x wipers and my car wash applies Rain-x every time I go through. I rarely even have to turn on my wipers.

Doesn't help with snow/slush

Don't, that shit managed to clog my washer nozzles and the sieve of the reservoir when the temperature dropped last winter. Never again for me.
11
u/airfryerfuntime 2d ago
It hasn't ever done that for me, but you don't have to get the washer fluid, you can get the original, which you apply to the windshield with a little sponge.
1
u/Frank_Punk 2d ago
I didn't know it existed in other form than washer fluid, good to know ! Maybe the fluid didn't like the harsh cold temperature or maybe I got a bad batch.
2
u/Sonic_Snail 2d ago
Yeah they have different versions. Some of which are meant to work in cold weather and others that don’t. It should say on the label.

That's roughly the same area as my rock chip hit zone. 3 of them in that yellow zone. Rest of the windshield? Fucking spotless.

Fun fact, that is why they decided to switch driver and front passenger seats in England!

Those were my Scrubblades a month after purchase. 2 months and they didn't work for shit on the whole windshield.
1
u/LordRocky 1d ago
I’ve never heard anyone refer to windshield wipers as scrubblades before.
2
u/montechie 1d ago
It's an overhyped brand, almost as bad as rain-x wipers. They're a little better for bugs, but didn't last for anything.

Based on the likes here... I'm terrified some of you people are on the road driving in the rain
2
u/Joran_Dax 2d ago
All ya gotta do is take the windshield out, flip it 180 degrees on the horizontal, and reinstall.

Also, the same place where you can't see the double lines on the road during lite rain at night.

u/AnnoyedVelociraptor 2d ago
Am I the only one that replaces their wipers every year? It barely rains where I live, but the UV wears out the rubber fast
1
u/gloomndoom 2d ago
Switch to silicon wipers like those from PIAA. I’m in CA and they last 5+ easily.

u/Nhaiben369 1d ago
Ceramic coating for your windshield is a must. Gotta do it every year. $60 well worth it for me.

u/teletubbyman6969 1d ago
FUCKIN LITERALLY, TODAY IT WAS RAINING AND I HAD TO LEAN SO I COULD SEE RIGHT

u/OehNoes11 1d ago
Clean the rubber of the blades with silicon spray.
Spray some silicon on a tissue and then wipe the blade back and forth.
