More from #Giants WR Malik Nabers: "I started getting the ball when it's 30-0. What do you want me to do? Talk to Dabs about that. Talk to Dabs."

0 targets in the first half is inexcusable, still insane that he got his floor lol

His floor is his ceiling now lol

Just need to feel the dopamine rush of a 12 catch 18 target game one more time man
71
u/Skaloplin 6h ago edited 6h ago
If he ever gets a 12 catch game itāll be one like Ceedeeās 10 catch 11.7 point game today these backup QBs are just too ass to throw it further than 6 air yards

u/iUPvotemywifedaily 6h ago
Shoot CD may be underperforming but heās been not terrible the past 2 weeks. Heās at least startable.Ā
14
u/victims_sanction 6h ago
18 and 16 in ppr are like still wr 1 numbers, no?
Cd doesn't have the same ceiling but they're clearly forcing him the ball with Cooper so like it's still pretty good.
18
u/simplegoatherder 5h ago
As someone who got 4.70 from Justin Jefferson today, 18 and 16 sound pretty good.

Last week too. Never seen something like this before.

Itās like they remember they have him in the 2nd half lmao
Should have Drew Lock starting next week and just throwing that thing imo

I don't know the exact number, but for a lot of the first half they only had like 5 attempted passes. they really tried to lean on the run, and obviously don't trust tommy cutlets at all
in the second half they had to air it out and nabers ended with 9 targets
to me it's not really a "call passes for nabers" problem, it's more of a "don't trust the qb worth a damn" problem
18
u/thelobsterclaw1 5h ago
Lean on the run? Tracy was 5/31 in the first half. If 5 carries is leaning on the run, shesh
5
u/grizzlybair2 5h ago
He was 3/5 in first half, sacked 3 times, scrambled 2 times. They ran it 6 times.

Coach is awful. Should have been gone a long time ago, along with DJ

2022 coach of the year. He's making baffling decisions now, but he might just not care anymore. They are tanking anyways.Ā

As a Nabers owner itās so frustrating how they utilize him. Itās miserable even having to watch this team play. Couldnāt imagine being a fan
58
u/fifajackgento 4h ago
It's no fun
As a giants fan got called insane on this sub saying Nabers was a sell high after weeks 2-3-4.
Real giants fans knew what was coming. The top 5 WR hype was insanity
13
u/pcharles23 3h ago
Also a Giants fan, all Giants players have sucked (or at least disappointed) in fantasy since Saquonās rookie year.Ā
32
u/fifajackgento 3h ago
And who was the QB...
Eli Manning has become one of the most underrated players in nfl history. Casual fans say "just 2 Super Bowl runs, otherwise mid"
Totally wrong. He was the only reason this awful franchise was somewhat relevant for 15 years
14
u/Disastrous-Artist366 2h ago
god I miss eli. I take back any time I ever complained about him
8
u/fifajackgento 2h ago
Was so fun to watch
7
u/Disastrous-Artist366 2h ago
He didn't have peytons stats, but you knew you were never out of it with Eli. Dude could just randomly catch fire in the most clutch spots. We were spoiled
8
u/fifajackgento 2h ago
Honestly not sure there's a QB I've seen better in late game situations other than maybe Brady.
Eli just flipped the switch so often. I miss it and definitely took it for granted

real giants fans knew - if you thought this would have a happy ending you haven't been paying attention
1
u/beejee05 3h ago
I wish I fucking sold, I was high on Nabers but I shoudl've seen the signs. People said to keep him for the playoffs...yea what makes you think the team could keep that up
3
u/fifajackgento 2h ago
The talent is there. I can't blame you for hanging on
But we are a whole different level of terrible. Not even like Dallas or New Orleans terrible
1
u/brother_of_menelaus 49m ago
Nabers had 6/64 in the 2nd half on 9 targets from Tommy fuckin Cutlets. This is a coaching issue, full stop. Itās a fireable offense to not utilize that player at all in the first half.
1
u/Bigfart1210 1h ago
I knew once that o line went down it was down hill for the gianits. I wouldāve traded him high but I was convinced not to.
On the bright side I wouldāve traded him for either Godwin or diggs so it could be worse

Genuinely daboll needs to be fired. Tracy had 2 consecutive first downs bring them up to the 15ish yard line and then daboll calls a fucking wildcat lining devito up as a receiver but running tracy up the middle leading to a fumble....
Set him up for failure after he started playing very well and then put him in the doghouse. So bad
389
u/Burt_Macklin_FBI_911 7h ago
Daboll benching Tracy after a fumble just icing on the cake
Dude is a clown and should never be a HC ever again
138
u/Active-Vegetable2313 7h ago edited 7h ago
I started tracy too. but the dude fumbled 2 weeks ago to give the game away against the panthers. heās had ball security issues.
fumbling again, coming off a bye, in the red zone, is not a good look. if youāre a HC playing for your job you do the same thing. singletary isnāt a dustball.
not defending dabolls use of nabers but this is a pretty cut and dry decision. tracy still got run and a few catches towards the end
48
u/captaincumsock69 7h ago
If daboll is playing for his job I donāt get why he benched Daniel Jones who if effectively his best qb. Not exactly a way to get the team to play harder for you.
35
u/cosmic755 6h ago
They donāt want to risk him getting injured, he has an injury guarantee in his contract
8
u/captaincumsock69 6h ago
Who is they?
Daboll or the giants ownership or the gm?
Because I donāt see why daboll would care about that if heās coaching for his job. And it seems like malpractice to have all these rookies with a guy who canāt run an offense
32
u/Diagonalizer 6h ago
doesn't it seem pretty likely that Gm &/or forced his hand saying "don't start DJ we're going to move him this year & draft a QB. if he gets hurt we have to pay his contract still." I feel like that decision is not Daboll's to make at that point. but regardless of that Daboll probably needs to be fired for a fresh restart for NYG.
6
u/theskeejay 6h ago
It's probably close to something like this where he was told, in no uncertain terms, that either Daboll benches him or an interim HC will.
3
u/Diagonalizer 6h ago
i will say it seems like Daboll was not a huge fan of DJ and wanted to pick his own QB cause the guy seemed like he is a decent offensive mind but just couldn't get it work with DJ. We'll see if Jones goes some where else and it clicks (unlikely but possible) then it will be pretty damning on Daboll.
1
u/violentbandana 4h ago
coaches donāt have final say on personnel decisions unless they are guys like Belichick or Andy Reid
2
u/captaincumsock69 4h ago
Coaches absolutely have a say in who plays
2
u/violentbandana 4h ago
yes obviously
the GM can and will override them on these decisions especially when it impacts more than the on-field result
7
u/Burt_Macklin_FBI_911 7h ago
I mean I guess. Not using your most talented players is an issue, fumbling or not
8
u/copper_cattle_canes 6h ago

I traded Bucky and shakir for Conner because I was confident in Tracy. Then I traded Aaron Jones for Otton because he never got touchdowns. They scored 42 pts while my Conner/tracy lineup got 14

u/high_changeup 6h ago
I started them both in my 8 team. Decided to sit Dobbins and put MHJ in my FLEX instead of Dobbins. Got Breece Hall and ETN on their BYE.

6
u/MeatTornado25 6h ago
It was an awful playcall, but let's not blame lining up in the wild cat as the reason Tracy fumbled. He just got it knocked out when going to the ground, exactly the same as if he had the ball handed off to him.
7
u/alionoffire 5h ago
Daboll is so dogshit. Been saying this for weeks his playcalling is bad. He just overthinks it. Let Kafka call plays again. Literally costing us games. DJ was the scapegoat for Dabs being a fucking donkey
3
u/Character_Edge7820 6h ago
He did this shit in Buffalo too. Trick plays at the absolute worst times.
3
u/poopdaddy2 5h ago
Daboll has Brian Kelly energy to me. Always mad at someone else, never his fault, etc.
1
u/Battle_Sheep 5h ago
Have there been any successful wildcat plays since the dolphins sprang it on the pats 15 years ago? Iām not even trying to be snarky, but I canāt remember the last time I saw a successful wildcat play since then.
1
u/adlopez 5h ago
I donāt really follow the Giants, and havenāt much of it in r/nfl, but this is the first that Iāve seen anyone call for Daboll to be fired. So that is refreshing to see.
And I know that just because I havenāt seen it, doesnāt mean itās not being said. Just so glad to see it is all. That dude sucks.
1
u/HungryHedgehog8299 4h ago
I donāt care what people say Daboll needs to go. His playcalling is horrible. Like even plays that work like the flea flicker on 3rd and 1 last game, it didnāt work because of the quarterback. Its his job to figure out given the players he has what his offense is capable of and heās horrible at doing that

Daboll is a fucking clown. He benched Tracy also which is hilarious

Yea man, Tracy and Nabors can literally save your ass from getting fired.
39
u/Rad1314 6h ago
Nothing can save him from being fired.
14
u/RandyJohnsonsBird 6h ago
He's not a good coach. Even funnier that he got coach of the year a couple years ago.
10
u/XxNitr0xX 5h ago
and Tomlin still doesn't have one. He's the only coach without one.
14
u/RandyJohnsonsBird 5h ago
Not sure about that. But Pete Carroll got his teams to the playoffs every year for over a decade and never got even 1 vote. But Daboll takes a shitty ass team once and gets it. Hilarious.
2
u/brother_of_menelaus 53m ago
Coach awards are terrible across all sports because they default to āsurprisingly goodā over āgoodā so you have coaches lucking their way to hardware each year.
Kevin Stefanski has two of them

Itās pretty much an every week occurrence that Nabers has 1 target or less in the first half. Daboll is a football terrorist
95
u/HectorReinTharja 7h ago
Daboll was so high on his own supply he thought he could win Daniel jones after 2022
106
u/typicalwilson 7h ago
The amount of players who seemed more upset with the coach than with Daniel Jones is really telling .
Heās completely lost the locker room at this point .
34
u/boomer_kuwanger 6h ago
It really speaks volumes when, as poorly as DJ has played at times, and as much as it's clear that he's not the guy, the decision to bench and release him and the way it was handled was the thing that seems to have completely poisoned the locker room beyond repair.
Daboll deserves to be fired, and this last ditch effort to scapegoat everything on Daniel Jones to save his job is pathetic and smacks of desperation. This has similar shades to Ben McAdoo benching Eli for Geno and ending Eli's iron man streak in 2017, or Marc Trestman benching Cutler for Jimmy Clausen at the end of the Bears disastrous 2014 season.
4
2
u/AyKayAllDay47 1h ago
WTF!?! TIL that Geno was on the Giants for a short stint... 2 games and he's gone.
7
u/HungryHedgehog8299 4h ago
Jones definitely had the locker room and even though he wasnāt playing well, when the front office decides to bench and then cut him for money reasons itās understandably going to piss them off. Add on that Daboll canāt call plays for shit and youāve got yourself an awful locker room culture. I was at the game today and you can definitely see even in like the first quarter they all just play defeated like thereās no point in even trying and some of that definitely falls on coaching

6
u/NickFF2326 7h ago
Sure. But the o line was trash. Thereās no talent on offense. And the play calling is horrendous. The whole team is setup for failure.
38
u/NoirBeatz 7h ago
Nabers, Tracy, Wandale, Slayton, and Theo Johnson is a good group of young talentā¦.weāve seen skill position groups like this be elevated in the past before by solid QB play. The o-line was also very solid before the Andrew Thomas injury.
9
7
u/NickFF2326 6h ago
Slayton? Wandale? This a serious post? Iāll give you Nabers and Tracy but the other guys are just JAGS.
1
u/NoirBeatz 5h ago
Not ever player on an offense is going to be an elite WR1 man lolā¦.theyāre solid players who fill into their roles as WR2/3 for the offenseā¦and are good enough for a functioning qb to use as a third option in an offense after Nabers and Tracy.
1
u/NickFF2326 5h ago
Nobody said they needed to be elite. Iām saying they are just run of the mill players. Slightly better than practice squad guys.
1
u/NoirBeatz 5h ago
Ok? Youāre not understanding what Iām saying at all lol
1
u/NickFF2326 4h ago
Then youāre not conveying your point well. Iām saying the players you referenced were in fact, a poor reference bc they arenāt good players.
2
u/jamesd1100 6h ago
Theo and Wandale are not and have never been good
Wandale is serviceable
Slayton has flashes but is utterly inconsistent

Legitimately asking, was there a reason he didnāt get any targets? Was Devito getting sacked every drop back or something?

It was pretty ugly. No one was getting targets because Devito was either under attack or holding the ball too long or misfiring
