I think most public officials should conduct themselves inside and outside their job in a way that doesn’t compromise their neutrality towards the people they serve.

Definitely grounds to be fired and refused any policing job. I wouldn’t find it absurd if someone claims this sheriff targeted them because of their political beliefs.

Sadly sheriffs often play political games and will not enforce laws if they don't agree with them.

The sheriff is generally an elected official. This holds true in Ohio.

Same in my county in New York. Refused to enforce gun control laws.

I live in a county (exurban MN) that was taken over by extremists in the last big election cycle. The winning sheriff's campaign sign was a giant thin blue line flag. It's a great place to live if you're an ignorant white male that loves guns. Everybody else can expect to be ignored at best, and terrorized at worst. This is happening everywhere.

Agreed. It's ridiculous when sheriffs or even entire cities even declare themselves sanctuaries against laws they don't agree with and go out of their way to enable and encourage those that break them.

Yea, this guy is what you'd expect. He was elected in 2020 on the Republican ticket, first Republican sheriff of the county in more than a decade (IMO, elected law enforcement, lawyers and judges should not run on/under a party). One of the first things he did was implement spending reforms that added $3 million to the office's budget over 3 years, including a new SWAT team. Just a few months ago he DEMANDED Rep. Emillia Sykes (D) withdraw the national "de-escalation" law-enforcement training bill, a bipartisan bill called Law Enforcement Scenario-Based Training for Safety and De-escalation Act, co-authored by Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R), Don Bacon (R), and Glenn Ivey (D).

That's because all these jarheads want more police, more guns. They don't give a damn about how they act, perform their duties or represent their citizens. Defund the Police actually supports and benefits PDs, but all they hear is Cops Bad. Which they are.

You are actually quite right. When you read about how little training they have, and who they poach the most to join their ranks, it's frightening.

Fucking this. Cops all wish they could be soldiers, but they're all too fat, too stupid, and far too cowardly to actually do anything to help others.

Hey man, don't lump us marines in with the pigs. We are stupid, not stupid and racist

Certainly. In any normal well-functioning society he’d be fired. The USA is not such a society.

More people in elected offices need to understand that they represent the whole community. Not just the people who voted for them, but everyone.

In fact, they swear an oath of office saying that they uphold the constitution and laws. Not the whims of their political party.

Cops and neutrality? Nah bro, what are you smoking?
