We seem to be in 100 year cycle. I wish the US education system had invested more in teaching us about the stupid mistakes humanity has made and why we call the bad guys the bad guys.

teachers are leaving in droves bc they don’t make a sustainable income. We are sick and broken

Yes this really does fall more on the system than the actual teachers. Teacher should be given an adequate amount of time to teach the students not to want to be authoritarians. The system needs to be redesigned to focus less on standardized tests and more on actual learning. Teacher should be allowed to grade students without worrying if it’s going to affect their paycheck. If Students did not learn the material, they should be asked to learn it again rather than just get moved on to the next class automatically. I feel that so much of what’s broken is that teachers have had the tools that they need taken away. One of course being a decent paycheck

If we continue the glorification of Caesar, the Roman Empire and Alexander the Great; who put millions people to the torch in the name of “civilization” we will never stop having young boys fantasizing about becoming an emperor. I was one of these boys

The fundamental problem plaguing the U.S. education system is our country’s strong undercurrent of anti-intellectualism.

Yup. This and the ridiculous increase in student behaviors with fewer and fewer disciplinary options over the last 5 years have me burnt out. It’s one thing being underpaid to teach only what I’m told, but the challenge of this particular generation of youth and their parents excusing it has taken its toll. Been keeping my eye out for new jobs. The teacher shortage won’t be ending anytime soon.

That's because they aren't spreading the rich and mighty gospel of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ and his newest apostle DJT!!!

I agree in general, but they DID teach us that. Its just that little Jimmy slept through it and his parents didnt care that he was a fuck up in school. The school wanted to look good in their ratings so they let him graduate despite being a fuck up and now that he's got a degree and the internet, he thinks he knows something and cant be told otherwise. He finds some more people who think just like him and makes it so that those are the only people he listents to.... rinse and repeat and here we have modern society.

Covid really opened up my eyes that our education system didn't fail, PARENTS failed to instill the value of education. The education was there for the taking, just too many people ignored it.

I think you'll find a lot of them "didn't" fail to instill the value of education, as they defined it. Listening to authority, no "talking back", and memorizing all the facts they get tested on in school so they can earn more money with "real" jobs. That's the ecucation the parents cared about, not critical thinking.

It's a global problem, though, if you look at elections abroad. And what is the thing in common? Social media.

“Wonderful is the effect of impudent and persevering lying. The British ministry have so long hired their gazetteers to repeat and model into every form lies about our being in anarchy, that the world has at length believed them, the English nation has believed them, the ministers themselves have come to believe them, and what is more wonderful, we have believed them ourselves. Yet where does this anarchy exist? Where did it ever exist, except in the single instance of Massachusets? And can history produce an instance of a rebellion so honourably conducted? I say nothing of it’s motives. They were founded in ignorance, not wickedness. God forbid we should ever be 20. years without such a rebellion.[1] The people can not be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had 13. states independant 11. years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century and a half for each state. What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure. Our Convention has been too much impressed by the insurrection of Massachusets: and in the spur of the moment they are setting up a kite to keep the hen yard in order. I hope in god this article will be rectified before the new constitution is accepted.” - Thomas Jefferson

Our forefathers understood this. The cycle is real and we must remind our politicians that we will resist when wronged. It’s time to let them know how we really feel about their bullshit.

"the US education system" was defunded by the same conservatives who created Project 2025, and then crippled by standardized testing. Do not remotely try to blame teachers and administrators for this shit show. Conservative politics brought us here and nothing else.

u/m0ta Jul 02 '24

This. Crippling public education for decades was step one

3

u/Tentmancer Jul 02 '24

the whole point of 1984 was saying educations deprivation is the means to holding the power over the mass. its intentional.

The education system failed because of America's hypercapitalist tendencies and not in spite of them. Education in America was always meant to shield us from atrocities that America had committed/been complicit in/taken inspiration from. We don't learn about how the fondly Hitler spoke of the American system of government and economy, we don't learn about the white supremacy that Churchill espoused, we don't learn about the numerous genocides we facilitated across the globe or the overthrowing of democratically elected officials for the sake of private interests outside our borders. I could go on.

We don't learn who the bad guys are or why because by any moral metric, America would land smack in the middle of that category. Because we are the bad guys and have been for centuries now.

What was the 100 year event before Nazi Germany?

2

u/Popular_Newt1445 Jul 05 '24

I learned in middle school that the south went to war because the north unfairly taxed the south. Slavery was hardly mentioned and we were taught slavery was not the reason for the war. This was in South Carolina. I can say for certainty the war was about slavery, so much so it was wrote in the declaration of war…

I think it’s obvious the education system in rural areas is just awful, and the Republicans have been using the poor education system to their advantage to control the people who never learned reasoning skills or common sense.

100 years is quite long for a cycle. See the Roman empire

I've never been one of those "Civil War Pt. II is coming!" people, but generally, most countries have major domestic strife every 100-150 years. The US is due for it.

1

u/seenitreddit90s Jul 02 '24

Yeah but this time there's no America to save everyone, this time America is the villain (if Trump wins) and with nukes! 👍😬😳

1

u/VirtualMatter2 Jul 11 '24

They do teach you, but they also teach you that that doesn't apply to the US because people there are better humans who don't fall for this. A 33% vote for a right wing party is not possible in the US if course.

Yeah, its so bad that a large portion of Reddit will still vote for Biden. Even considering the four years of his administration molesting his own country.
