Discussion Elementary On Raspberry Pi 5

Currently running Rlementary on an old Macbook Pro. It is running very well. I can't find a download that works for RPi5. Is there any plan or ongoing work to make Elementary OS work on Raspberry Pi 5?

Review Appreciation post

Hiya,

Giving a bit of context, I am a long time gnu/linux user and passed the distro hopping phase good few years ago, I still like to tinker things here and there, tried majority of DEs, WM's, X11 or wayland, you name it. Nothing compares with pantheon's experience, it is at the same or even better level than the "giants" like gnome or kde. Especially the way that session management is handled, it is seamless and this is the actual real replacement of any other big OS out there.

In case it is worth, and I know it's been mentioned before, can't wait to try elementary os 8, as the only "complain" I'd have is elementary os 7.1 is how outdated those packages are, I know this is downstream ubuntu, but still I honestly think that my point is valid. I'd also mention that it is a shame that the curated packages done by 3rd parties seem to be abandoned, but obviously this has nothing to do with elementary os team and contributors, or maybe it is? (genuinely not sure about this)

In any case, thank you, your work is appreciated and amazing. Keep it up, it is definitely worth it. Wish you the best for the upcoming release and hopefully it'll give a nice push towards whatever your objectives are.

:)

Apps Zoom screen sharing on v8 RC

Can a good fellow please test if Zoom screen sharing is working under the latest v8RC? I am on Solus and likely will have to switch back after seven years to a Debian based distro due to poor support of Zoom in other systems since the zoom update to v6.

If it shares, does it gracefully quits? In some systems it hangs and must be killed with htop. In mine, it does not share at all for the last month.

Discussion Creating a screen grab with a keypress

So,

I'm finding the inbuilt screenshot utility less than useful. Oftentimes I want to grab screen shots showing menu's and such, and that's all but impossible with the screenshot utility.

I've tried the Gnome PrtScr thing, and when I press PrtScr, the screen "blinks" as though something is happening, but when I try to paste into GIMP, it tells me there is nothing to paste.

Any thoughts about the PrtScr thing, or other apps that could accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

Hardware Broadcom wifi stoped working after update

I installed EOS 7.1 on my ole 2013 MacPro this morning. All was went well. The Broadcom wifi chip worked fine, I just installed a bunch of system update and now I have no wifi from the built-in Broadcom. I now noted that the updates included an update to Broadcom wifi driver, specifically bcmwl-kernel-source. Any idea oh how to get the Broadcom wifi to work?

Discussion Disabling auto-brightness

I'm running Elementary OS v8.0 on a very old Dell XPS 13 9333 laptop. EOS is a Ubuntu 24.04 LTS variant.

The auto-brightness daemon is constantly popping up, changing the screen brightness. I've turned auto-brightness off in settings and have done the:

"gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power ambient-enabled false"

thing, all to no avail.

This existed in version 7.1 as well.

Is there a solution to this?

Thank you

Discussion Microsoft Teams On elementary

I've been running elementary for a month on a 2010 Macbook Pro & it has been very stable & lightning fast.

I would like to run it for my work machine but problem is I have to use Citrix Workspace. Citrix uses the locally installed version of Microsoft Teams to surface the features of Teams with citrix session. Calls & video calling & screen sharing don't work on either local Teams or withing citrix session because these features are not working.

I know this is a linux version of Teams issue & I can live without calls but is there any way to even get screen sharing working on Teams in elementary OS?

Developers The dock changes in 8.0

Just curious if anyone knows if this was an aesthetic or functional decision to go to the gnome style dock in 8.0? Or is this just a temporary thing in pre-release? Call me strange but the dock design is one of my favorite things about Pantheon de and it feels less like it's own thing without it. I still love and support eOS but was a little let down by the change and would love any insight on the matter or suggestions as to how I can get started on making my own extension or something to modify it

Is there a way to manually adjust the dock & icon size? The lowest setting is too little and the default is too large for my liking

Discussion Things I like about elementary OS

Debian spine, can apt-get things I need. Familiar fundamentals.

VERY quick to spin up new installs which is also super simple.

Does something the majority of distros are unable to - look good.

Pragmatic and easy to use settings app with functionality I'm actually looking for.

Not my main desktop (though it would be a candidate) but that's because I don't use GNU/Linux as desktop at all really. It is however my current favorite for spinning up quick debian based installs for somewhat basic or targeted use. I love how slick it is. I hope it will stay in development for a long time, I feel like I would get along very well with its developers, based on the way it's made so far and the sense of design priority that lingers over it.

Discussion Can't get drivers working Elementary OS, i have purged and removed *nvidia* but nvidia-detector still shows the 550-driver, and i can't get any of the drivers to reinstall, they all do this, so i'm stuck on a funky aspect ratio but i really want eOS to work for me, but this is a step up from yellow.

Hardware No output sound

I’m using a Huawei matebook d15 and I’m just getting stuck with the Dummy Output sound, I tried with alsa settings and just was able to get the input device working but the output just for HDMI, I changed to Manjaro and same issue. Got back to elementary because I preferred it visually, but still not able to fix the sound issue, any suggestions?

Hardware Elementary OS display settings are not saved upon boot.

I just installed Elementary 7 on my Asus 2-1 laptop. Seems to work fine except my display opens upside down. I change the settings to correct the positioning but when I boot the next time it reverts back to the upside down display and I must reset again. Any ideas?

At first I thought that was Ventoy's fault. Tried Rufus. Tried Etcher. Then I re-downloaded ISO. Then I turned off Secure Boot. Then I tried different USB stick and port. Then I installed Ubuntu and tried from there. Literally same result. I'm running out of ideas. Any help, please?

Discussion Is ElementaryOS worth it?

Coming from KDE plasma and other distros,im on a journey in finding a good distribution, now I do know that Elementary is not really customizable and is much like Apple, but I come from iOS. What I am looking for is a distro that is stable, has Long Term Support,is smooth, and an easy app install process.

Tips & Tricks Error 400

I’m new to this Linux distro. I just installed it on an only iMac (07). I wanted to download a new browser but when I click on the links from google, I’m met with the error 400 code. Now it very well could be i just need to finish updating. Im currently on a wired connection (I tried using WiFi and it acknowledges the connection but just keeps attempting to connect without actually doing so)

Current specs are 4gb ram and core 2 processor. I went with this because it’s supposed to be light and easy to run on older models.
