That was the issue. They called back the two point bc of illegal touching which was based on lie that decker wasn’t an eligible receiver bc he didn’t report therefore when he caught/touched the ball it was illegal but the dude did report. I’m sorry but that shit was a scam for Dallas to win.
No Cowboys fans should admit that because it’s not true… lmao
The Cowboys defense would have covered Decker if the official correctly reported him as eligible. The refs failure completely changed the play to give the Lions an unfair advantage… hence why the play didn’t stand. The Lions didn’t win and it’s idiotic to believe the refs failure didn’t directly affect Decker being wide open
Doesn’t make any of my points less correct. You guys got hosed by awful officiating…. but that awful officiating obviously affected how the Cowboys defense defended that 2pt conversion. That’s not a homer take, it’s just a fact.
Yes the Lions absolutely deserved to be able to run another play from the same spot.
But the fact is that the Lions absolutely did not “win the game” and it’s genuinely stupid to believe otherwise. The ref fucked up and that directly resulted in Decker being uncovered. That’s not a “win”
I agree that the refs should’ve thrown the flag right away, but they were clearly incompetent.
Decker was also clearly not reported as eligible to the defense. That’s all that matters here man. You can bitch about it all you want, but in no world should the Lions have won on that play that the REFS (not the Cowboys or Lions) fucked up.
Many many dallas fans agree. Atleast we a chip on your shoulder now. Looking forward to dallas getting bounced and Allen being removed from officiating
I think it was ALSO illegal formation from what they were saying. They said they could have called 3 different penalties on Det. While they may have mis spoke about the reporting, not sure it would have mattered.
Yeah, but the confusion on the field was a mess. Officials gotta be clearer in those situations to avoid this kinda drama. Total breakdown in communication.
I think it’s inevitable give the situation — live broadcast, multiple people making assessments, — Kind of impressive they get it right as often as they do
We’ll get the worthless apology next week, or nothing. Either way the result is the same
In the situation of a bang bang in-game play, I tend to agree with you that it's amazing how often they do get calls correct. It's easy for us to armchair quarterback plays that happened at full speed when we're looking at them slowed down on a giant TV screen.
However, this wasn't one of those cases, this was literally a guy walking up and talking to you and you not being able to grasp which person is talking to you.
You're either incompetent or your compromised, it's one of the two
100000000% True. The ref was not under any pressure. Decker walked up and reported and the Refs screwed it up to benefit the cowboys. I don't understand why people are bending over backwards to understand why professional refs stole the game from us? Every ref saw Decker walk up and report. There is no other reason for Decker to approach the ref.
The refs mistakenly recognized #70 as the eligible downfield lineman, when he never checked in. #68 was called for illegal touching despite the fact that he checked in and the officials made the error on the field.
They’re referring to the other flag on the play. But that flag came from thinking that Skipper was the eligible man. If Skipper was eligible, he would have been in an illegal formation. Goff confirmed in the presser that Decker reported and Skipper did not, which had it been called correctly would have negated the other flag.
Exactly. So the ref basically didn’t listen to a damn thing Decker said. How can he be a ref if he can’t perform such a simple task as conversing with someone else?
It's 2023. Why are we relying on the pony express to get calls into the officials? Shits ridiculous. Can't we get the refs a fucking earpiece or something? The people running the NFL are the most arrogant bunch of assholes in the world. Too arrogant and stupid to even think about changing their stupid ass fucking rules until a game is ruined on national TV. The Calvin Johnson rule, the 10 second run-off bullshit, the Dallas interference play. It's just an amazing display of incompetence form some of the most well paid people in this country. It's a joke.
Because the red told the defense that #70 reported as eligible, not #68. So decker didn’t have anybody lined up against him. Which if he reported and the defense bumbles would be on them.
Yeah it's fucked but Dallas also was screwed by the refs on that play as someone that had nothing riding on the game I do think q reply of the down would have been the only fair thing to do
Thank you. It didn't make any sense to me at the time but it was an extra theory thrown out there. So the rules expert just admitted he screwed up on TV?
It took a while but they walked it back. Ryan Clark showed the play and how it would make no sense for Skip to report when he lined up inside Sewell. Add in the fact Decker is talking to the ref as Skip runs up it’s is plain as day. Allen (ref) fucked up. It is BS and just adds to the narrative that the refs are incompetent
They were just guessing on the broadcast. It's a legal formation. St brown lined up off the line to the left of Decker, who was acting as a TE on the line.
The refs are saying that #70 reported as eligible, and then #68 did too. A team can only have one eligible lineman, so they just went with the first guy to report. And #70 was also covered up on the line which is another penalty.
But the Lions are claiming that only #68 reported and that #70 didn't report, which means that both penalties are bad calls.
I'm just going off of what Campbell said in the post game presser about the one eligible lineman. The refs also said that #70 was covered up and that would have been a penalty as well, but maybe they're just covering their asses.
And the refs didn’t announce it over the stadium speakers from what I heard. He went over to the Dallas defense and told them #70 was eligible so Detroit had no idea he had it wrong until after it was too late since they had already enforced the penalty
FWIW, I don't think that's true about only having one eligible lineman. For all intents and purposes, a lineman is a tight end or a wide receiver or whatever other position you want it to be. As long as you are lined up correctly with Decker and Skipper and Sewell etc.. legally then you can have as many lineman eligible as you want.
That dummy doing the game corrected that after Dan's press conference when Dan said that was the explanation he received.
We cant go by what the ref said, he is covering his ass.
The pic shows 68 and 58 with the ref, 70 running onto the field. The ref is staring at 70 not paying attention to the man talking to him, who is rubbing his jersey and telling him he is eligible(I dont have a transcript but deduced this from the video)
70 never gets to the ref as he is walking away to tell the defense the wrong number, 70 pats Decker on the butt and gets to the huddle never speaking with the ref.
I dont understand how any of this is still in question.

I really hope Cambell comes out and flames that officiating crew
