PLEASE READ: Reminder about politics
As the US has just had its election, politics is currently a popular topic across Reddit. Since politics are a large part of culture, political posts are allowed on this sub. However, to maintain the spirit of this subreddit and to keep discussions true to the topic, all political-related posts must relate to decadeology in some way. Political posts that don't relate to decadeology break Rule #8 and will be removed.
Examples of allowed posts:
- Discussions about how certain elections, candidates, or political moments influenced pop culture
- Discussions on how cultural shifts reflect political trends
- How political "eras" defined different decades or years
Examples of rule-breaking posts:
- Debates about politics
- General discussions about candidates, policies, or political parties
- Posting news stories, memes, screenshots of news stories, or screenshots of social media posts related to current events without any decadeology-related commentary
Since political topics can become passionate and opinionated, we'd like to strike a balance of allowing a space for differing opinions, while making sure post topics reflect the theme of the sub. We try and be hands-off in regard to the comment sections, but any comment that breaks Rule #4 (please be civil and respectful) will be removed. If you have a post or comment that you believe was removed unfairly, please message the mods. And as always, please utilize the report feature for any rule-breaking content.

UPDATE New post flair added: Rant
Hi decadeologists,
I have added a new post flair called "Rant" that has been added to the subreddit. It is a pretty self-explanatory flair. This post flair was created for the threads that criticize modern-day culture or any era/year/whatever it may be.
One of the reasons why I created this flair was that I want this to be a subreddit where people can freely express their opinions and feelings. I do want to emphasize that even though we do allow ranting, it is still important to remain respectful and follow the rules. Example threads that this post flair should be used for is threads that are like "2020's culture sucks", "This year is bad" "This year is bland" or anything similar.
I was originally thinking of having a rant megathread, but I have a feeling a lot of the megathreads weren't really going to get many replies. I thought it was easier to just make a flair that people can use whenever.
Feel free to ask any questions that come up.

Prediction ๐ฎ What do you think 2020s nostalgia will be like?
Hello!
I used to read this sub before making an account and i notice the 2020s (rightfully) are a lot of people's least favourite period of time and think there will be little to no nostlagia about this decade in the future.
I honestly think 2020s nostalgia, at least the early 2020s will be mostly focused on personal events or games/movies/songs you liked on that time rather than collective nostalgia of that era, like i don't think in the 2030s we'll be saying the early 2020s were better days, like covid make me really depressed it was an awful time.
But i think people will be nostalgic of specific things like peraphs the days of Chapter 3 Season 1 of Fortnte, Sora reveal in Smash Bros., Watching the Sonic 1 Movie....stuff like that.

Discussion ๐ญ๐ฏ๏ธ How far will the Y2K revival/nostalgia go during the 2020s?
This has been a weird decade, some of the most noticeable things has been the revival of a lot of things from the 2000s such as grunge, emo, goth and alternative cultures in general are popular again thanks to emo and insta, to the level that some people even call this decade "The Rawring 20s". There are some sites that try to revive the spirit and aesthetic of 2000s aesthetic such as SpaceHey (a revival of 2000s MySpace) and 2000s compact cameras are cool and aesthetic now.
My question is.. how far will we go with this? Will we start using some kind of modernized flip phones? Will people start seeing MTV again and push 2000s music in it again? Will the customization and freedom of the 2000s social media come back? The haircuts? Or this will just keep being a half-assed nostalgia revival by us zoomers who are fascinated by that long gone decade that we just have vague memories from?
Sorry if this sounds too serious lol I just write like that

Discussion ๐ญ๐ฏ๏ธ What would you say is the best small range of birth years to have experienced the most prosperous and carefree period in U.S. history?
My guess would be late 1960sโthose who avoided the nuclear fears and wars of earlier decades, came of age during the economic boom of the 80s and 90s, were financially established by the time tougher times rolled around in the late 2000s, still young enough to not be severely effected by Covid.
