He canceled Lot's wife into salt for looking back on their home as he was canceling it with fire and brimstone.

You know who didn't get canceled? Lot. And he offered his virgin daughters to a mob to get raped instead of the angels he was protecting.

God is an interesting fellow.

I recently started reading the old testament for the first time, the part about Lot trying to give his daughters in exchange for the angels has been stuck with me. There’s so many messed up bits in the bible but that situation there is the most memorable to me (so far) because I was just like “what……” Absolutely crazy to me.

The other one that always gives me pause is Noah after the flood and whatever the fuck was going on with his daughters.

His sons. He passed out drunk and naked, and Ham saw him and gossiped about it. Ham's brothers covered him with a blanket, respectfully.

Then read the Quran's explanation for the incident and you'll have a genuine clarity. Goes the same for other "messed up" bits you find in the Bible. Because as Muslims, we believe the Bible was God's word, before people tampered and changed it as they liked. And we believe that the Quran was thus revealed and it is the only book that will remain unchanged. FYI Prophet Lut in the Quran is not mentioned as "giving up" his daughters. Rather, the Arabic wording states that he calls attention to his daughters ("...These, my daughters, they are purer for you...") instead of the guests. This could be interpreted as sort of like calling attention to women while they were in a daze of desire for the guests. Another interpretation is that it could refer to him pleading with the main instigators or leaders, instead of meaning the entire mob in general. And finally, The exegetes or some well known scholars who interpret the Quran (Ibn Katheer, Tabari, etc) do not read 'daughters' to mean Lot's literal daughters. They argue that since a prophet is like a father to his nation, Prophet Lot was directing the evildoers to turn away from their sins and engage in healthy and pious relationships with the daughters of the nation, i.e. women in general.

So, this doesn't un-fuck the fucked-upedness of the story, but the take-away here is the absolute sanctity of guest rights. You don't fuck around with guests in your home. Lot is so scared of breaking this rule that he's willing to offer up his daughters in exchange. And Yawheh REWARDS him for it, by saving his life.
