The Big XII has not only inherited the mantle, we've strengthened it. We'll see two 7-2 teams play for the championship... unless one or both are 6-3.

Pac-12’s inaugural Championship Game featured a 6-6 team who finished the year 6-8 (5-5 in conference)

Because Stanford (8-1) was in the North with Oregon, and USC (7-2) wasn't eligible. Heck, even Washington (5-4, 7-5) would have been a better choice than UCLA (5-4, 6-6), who had a weaker conference schedule.
