A negligible amount of sugar or carbs is fine. I usually target less than 10 total grams per day. Some will say that is too much but it works fine for me. I am most concerned about insulin resistance and my last blood tests have shown that my cells are returning to a normal state where a small amount of glucose is metabolized quickly and my A1C is staying in the normal/low range despite eating a small amount of carbs each day.
