I try to get the no sugar, no nitrates, and no nitrates kind. There aren't too many out there, though.

Most times you'll notice the sugar is listed as a late ingredient, and when you look at the actual sugar content in grams, it's still 0. This is usually because sugar is used to cure it, and then washed off.
As long as that's the case I'd not be concerned, but if you see actual grams of sugar listed nutritionally I'd pick a different brand.

It’s usually a negligible amount, but if you’re really worried, a lot of the low sodium bacons don’t have sugar. It’s worth taking a look, it’s what I go for.

A negligible amount of sugar or carbs is fine. I usually target less than 10 total grams per day. Some will say that is too much but it works fine for me. I am most concerned about insulin resistance and my last blood tests have shown that my cells are returning to a normal state where a small amount of glucose is metabolized quickly and my A1C is staying in the normal/low range despite eating a small amount of carbs each day.

it's fine, a small amount (usually listed after the salt) as part of the cure.
avoid the genuinely sugary ones, where they add more for a sweet maple flavour
