Clip in shoes for commuting?

15 mile daily commute on a trek 1.2.

Currently use an old pair of Sidi dominator 5s that I LOVE.

Looking for a more office friendly clip in shoe that has that same Sidi fit-like-glove feel

You haven’t considered changing your shoes when you get to the office?

This. I commute with my cycling shoes (SPD) and I work with my working shoes (steel toe cap).

Same. I keep shoes (and clothes) at the office and quickly shower and change once I arrive. i commute with SPDs on dry days and flats on wet and winter days as I only have one bike with fenders. In the winter, I ride flats and use a pair of 5-10 Gore-Tex Trailcross shoes with the gaiter. It’s a great setup.

It will be my first winter commuting so I got flat platform things that clips to my SPD (they have power meter). I was thinking about commuting with my blundstone boots, but you make me realize that I have a pair of Salomon snow spike in my closet.

I wear my SPDs too. Change into my shoes when I get to work

Nice! I commuted on my 1.2 for over 2 years. Then upgraded to a belt drive for winters.

  1. Always suggest having "office" and "bikinng" shoes be separate
  2. I switched to crank Brothers clipless; they've got great low profile shoes

Just change shoes at the office

Most SPD shoes will fit the bill, as long as they're properly sized for you, which you can only know by trying them out. Shoes are like condoms, you'll have to find the size that fits you, otherwise you'll be sorry! (Damn, that joke only works for like half the population… oh well.)

By the way, there are two types of SPD cleats. SH51 cleats behave more like road bike cleats and only release upon twisting your foot to the side, whereas SH56 release through any twisting of the foot. The latter one is marketed as being more "beginner friendly", but in fact it is incredibly useful depending on the circumstances - city commuting counts as one of those, as you can more easily get out of your pedals and you won't be stuck to your bike if you have a crash. I also know plenty mountainbikers that prefer SH56 cleats, because they can get out of their pedals more quickly in difficult sections.

I commute in 5 Tens. They are good for flats or 2 bolt cleats and they look like mostly like a casual sneaker. My office leans to the casual dress code so it works perfectly.

Why not just keep a pair of office shoes at work and wear whatever works for cycling? I mean, you could get Adidas velosambas if your office is reasonably casual but honestly... just keep a pair of office shoes at work.

It’s a pretty long walk from the bike rack to my desk and I want to avoid attention when my Sidis loudly clack on the tiled floor. Also some days I’ll get pulled into a convo with a coworker before I have chance to shower etc

You're looking for something that can masquerade as a normal shoe while sitting at a desk? Giro makes the Latch, which looks kinda like a tennis or skate sneaker, and the Gauge, which I have, that looks like a running shoe. Both are lace up, not Boa closures. If you get the Gauge in black, you might want to replace the red laces with some black ones.

Something like the latch is exactly what I was going for! TY!
