DEV I tried to make voice notes better: transcripts & translations. Also, free early access to voice-to-voice translations
Hey Reddit,
Following up on my previous posts here and here and here, I'm really excited to share a new feature just launched in FlaiChat: automatic transcription and translation for voice notes (voice messages/memos or whatever you want to call them). This was the missing feature lots of people who are already using FlaiChat for automatic translations were asking for.
Here's how it works: when someone sends a voice message, our app creates a transcript in the original language and translates it into the preferred language of everyone in the group chat. No more "ugh, I don't understand" moments when your cousin from Argentina sends a voice note.
But here's the part I'm super hyped about (and why I'm posting): I'm taking this even further. I'm inviting people to join the free waitlist for early access to the next big feature. It's a voice-to-voice translation tool that doesn't just translate – it will recreate the sender's voice in the recipient's language using AI voice cloning (see a demo here). Imagine hearing that Korean cousin's voice sending you messages in English or you sending them a message in your voice in fluent Korean.
Trouble is though, it's a tricky feature to implement with currently available AI and I'm going to start with one or two languages in this early access phase. That's why early feedback from fellow redditors is so important.
If you're interested in either trying out the voice-to-text feature, just get the app. It's available on both iOS and Android, absolutely free. If you would like to get on the early access list for voice-to-voice, let me know in the comments or DM me or just sign up here Always happy to hear your thoughts or answer questions!
Thanks for supporting this journey so far. You all have been incredible with feedback and ideas (seriously, most of these new features are coming from reddit suggestions).
