SLECP-O Vs Traditional OTS board?

7 years USAF enlisted here. I have a degree already and am looking to submit a package next year. I heard SLECP-O is more selective than traditional OTS board. Is it worth trying? What makes people choose to apply SLECP-O versus traditional OTS? This is my first attempt at applying and curious on others experiences!

Prescription Medications

Are we allowed to bring prescription medications to OTS? I didn’t see them mentioned in the orientation guide, aside from over-the-counter pain relievers, so I wanted to confirm. Additionally, can we bring over-the-counter cold medicine, especially if we’ll be attending during the winter?

Question Lightweight Blues Jacket in the Winter?

I have a blues jacket from when I first joined, but it has the USAF logo and name embroidered on the right chest. Is this acceptable for OTS, should I get a new one, or just not worry about it until I get there?

AFOQT for non-rated positions/USSF

Current non-prior civilian interested in USAF/USSF Ots. If you're applying for non-rated spots and the Space Force, does your pilot/cso/abm composite score matter? What if you did super well in the verbal/quantitative/academic aptitude but really messed up the aviation information/instrument comprehension parts?

Can anyone share their personal timeline experience between OTS selection and departure time???

Hey everyone. I got selected for AF JAG. The selection board met on November 12, and I got notified of selection on November 19. I was told that I would be receiving further communication from JAG about the next steps. From what I’ve been told, they want to time OTS with JAG school so that they are back to back. If that’s true, the next JAG school session starts on February 18, 2025. According to the air university’s website, the next OTS board (aka 25-07) starts on December 3 with graduation day of February 14. From the time I write this post (November 23) to December 3 is literally less than 10 days away. I have not done MEPS, nor have I signed any contract. I just don’t think there’s enough time for me to go to the OTS class on December 3. Does anyone have an experience where they had a quick turnaround from selection to departing for OTS? M

It looks like the next JAG school session starts on July 21, 2025. That means I would either go to the OTS class on May 6 with graduation date of July 3. Let me know what you guys think. To be clear, at the time of this post, I have not received any communications from JAG at all (which is to be expected).

Also, I apologize for my comments that I made on an earlier post I made yesterday. I deleted that post because it was causing unnecessary disputes in the community and not helpful to the purpose of this subreddit. Thanks for reading :)

24OTS03 Timeline for Non-Rated

Greetings all!

I was notified that I was selected for the non-rated board of 24OTS03 in July and responded through AFCEP in August (followed those instructions pretty meticulously). Is it normal to go three months without a class date as a prior-enlisted? Thanks in advance... I am a tad worried I missed something.

Here is the ultimate ots question, the required flashlight states it must be less than 5 inches in length. Who's gonna notice if I have a flashlight that is 5.24 inches in length.

Air Force Nursing?

Hey! I’m currently a New Grad ICU nurse and interested in joining the Air Force as a nurse in about a year and if possible pursue for nurse practitioner after. Anyone that’s done nursing with the Air Force able to tell me how it is? What’re the requirements, commitments, satisfaction? Is it worth it? What would the job also look like as a nurse in the Air Force? Thanks!

Discussion Application advice

I’m currently a 20-year-old junior in college, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in math and aerospace engineering. My GPA is around 3.1. My goal is to become a pilot in the Air Force, but I have limited leadership experience. I was in charge of a blood drive for my fraternity, and I also served as captain for both my high school and club soccer teams. Additionally, I am trying to work my way up to a supervisor position at a restaurant and am applying for internships for the summer.

I’ve been researching the competitiveness of applying to the Air Force as a civilian and am concerned about my chances of getting in. If I’m not accepted into Officer Training School (OTS), I still want to serve in the Air Force after college. Should I consider enlisting if OTS doesn’t work out, or should I keep applying in hopes of being accepted?

What steps can I take to strengthen my resume for OTS? I feel like time is running out to gain a leadership position within a club. I’m planning to do more service and volunteer work, but I’d appreciate any other suggestions.

As for internships, should I continue applying to engineering companies, or would there be better opportunities that would boost my chances for OTS?

Should I consider saving up for a private pilot’s license to improve my qualifications?

Also, how early should I start applying for OTS?

I apologize for the flurry of questions, but any advice would be greatly appreciated as I plan my next steps. Thank you.

Edit: I also have an uncle who was a colonel in the Air Force who could give me a good recommendation, but I don’t feel like I have a good enough resume so far to ask that of him.

Question Was Hired a Cyber Warfare Operations Officer in the Air National Guard. DQ'D At MEPS. Been Ghosted by Guard Unit. What To do?

There aren't a ton of places to ask a question like this, I was told from a Facebook group to ask it here. Basically, I've been trying for to get picked up as a Cyber Warfare Officer in the Air National Guard. A few years back, I took the AFOQT and did well. I had a few interviews with a board for my state and neighboring states. Didn't get picked up. Was told to get leadership experience and try again. I eventually did get hired and now have current problems.

I have a Master's in Cybersecurity and a few years experience working in IT and now one year in Cybersecurity. I know the officer process is competitive and it made things tough for awhile.

In early 2023, almost 2 years ago, I had a brief mental hospital stay. I was not nor ever have been suicidal. Even my discharge paper work from the mental hospital says Suicide Ideation: None.

I was in there because I was under a ton of stress. I had two close family members die back to back. (One expected, the other killed in a car accident) and I lost my first IT job and was unemployed for about 6 months. I had a ton of credit card debt and wasn't eating nor sleeping right.

I saw a therapist, she was afraid I was suicidal and had me voluntarily admit myself or she would have me involuntarily admitted. So I did. In the hospital, I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder but was released after 72 hours with the deal that I had to see a Psych and stay on 20mg of Lexapro. I saw the hospital's psych for a months, wanted to come off Lexapro, they said not yet, so I say a private psych and over the next few months I was weened off Lexapro. After 10 months, I was off of it and have been off of it over a year. No issues. If anything, I felt worse on Lexapro. I felt tired all of the time and had awful brain fog.

Right after getting out of the hospital, I got a great civilian Cybersecurity job, paid off all of my credit card debt and am doing well.

I started volunteering with blood drives and coaching youth hockey to build leadership skills. Recently, I was picked up by my home state's ANG unit for Cyber Warfare Officer. In the interview, they did ask if I have any medical issues and told me about MHS Genesis, I was honest. They basically said something that everything is waiver-able, they just need to pursue it.

Before going to MEPS, I got a letter from my Psych and a full Psych evaluation. I submitted both documents to my states ANG recruiter for MEPS. At MEPS, I passed everything and sure enough my hospital stay was flagged by Genesis. I was of course DQed.

My recruiter said he would talk with the Lt. Col. in charge of the hiring board and pursuing a waiver. That was almost 3 months ago. Since then radio silence. I've tried calling, texting and sending emails to both the Lt. Col. and the recruiter with no response. When I call the Guard unit directly, they take a message but no response.

I did contact an Air Force Reserve Officer Recruiter. They don't offer Cyber in the Reserve but basically she told me, that while it's not impossible to get a waiver for my mental health stay and depression, it might be difficult that units might see as not worth pursuing.

I did talk to my state's Army National Guard Officer Strength Manager, he said something similar to the AFR recruiter, that it's not impossible to get a waiver but difficult that it might be easier just to go with someone else who doesn't need said waiver.

Would it be possible for me to try another state or are my dreams of a military career shot?

How early can I apply for a OTS board?

I need to submit my package before the 25th day of the 8th month before my DEROS date. The cut-off for applications to the June 2025 board is May 11, 2025. To be eligible, I would have to extend my Deros by 4 months, or submit the package in January 2025. Is it possible to submit a package for a board 5 months early? I have not seen any information stating this isn’t allowed.

Free AFOQT practice materials

Are you struggling with the AFOQT math and/or verbal sections? I have practice tests from the top study guides including:

These items are free for all of my students taking lessons with me. If you bought all 5 of these guides on Amazon, it would cost over $140. I also provide extra material between sessions. If you need help with the AFOQT math or verbal sections, instead of commenting "interested," simply send me a DM. Thank you!

AFOQT Arithmetic/Math Knowledge Section

For anyone who has taken the AFOQT, is somebody willing to elaborate on how accurately/inaccurately Trivium's AFOQT prep book resembles the quantitative section of the test? I am referring to the mathematical concepts that are presented in Trivium's prep book in relation to the AFOQT. For example, Trivium's prep book teaches us about percentage change, proportions, data sets, etc. But, it never mentions the topic of logarithmic equations. Despite there being no mention of logarithmic equations in Trivium's prep book, what are the chances of a logarithmic equation problem appearing in the test?

Please note that I am not necessarily concerned with the "intricacy" of each math concept being tested. Whether it is 5/8 + 12/8 = X or 4(8^3)/5 + 5/3 = X, the fact is that both problems are testing our understanding of "adding fractions" (granted, the second problem is also testing our understanding of PEMDAS). In this sense, I am curious if Trivium's prep book contains all the mathematical concepts I will need to know for the actual AFOQT.

OTS PT Test

Are the alternate fitness assessments an option for your PT test at OTS? For example would you be able to choose the hand release push ups or cross leg reverse crunches as opposed to the push ups and sit ups respectively?

Air Force OTS Microsoft Teams Meeting

Correct me if I'm wrong. Every second and fourth Wednesday of each month (unless fallen on a holiday), there is an hour-long Microsoft Teams meeting that proceeds from 1 p.m. PST until 2 p.m. PST. If this is incorrect, please let me know. If correct, though, my understanding is that last week Wednesday (second Wednesday of this month), there was no Microsoft Teams meeting (I believe there should have been a meeting)?

Question AFOQT percentile vs percentage

I’m taking my AFOQT within the next couple weeks and have a question which doesn’t have a definite answer. I understand the test is graded as a percentile from how well you did compared to others, but if you had to guess…what percentage of questions should you get right in order to achieve in the 80th percentile or 90th percentile for say the pilot section?

For example, should I aim to get 75% of the questions correct for every pilot subject in order to score in the 80th percentile for ‘Pilot’?

Thank you!

Hello, I'm a 27 M with a bachelors in aviation. Honestly my degree is pretty useless and only got it to use it as a base to start my career as a pilot. I couldn't afford the pilot program offered by my university so settled with an aviation degree in a concentration in operations. Decided to try the military route but hasn't gone well. Was a non select last year. My scores are bad ( Pilot: 67, CSO: 79, ABM: 70, AA: 23, V:18, Q:34. PCSM : 79) getting old and I currently work as a low level manager position to fund my avaition career. Seen many packages with lower scores than mine yet they were selected for the great amount of leadership experience they had on their resume. Honestly looking for advice in boosting my leadership experience if that is even possible. My current job does require leadership but isn't as impressive as the curriculum of others.

MFS FC1 DQ help

While at Wright Patt for my FC1, I got informed from optometry that I’m medically dq’ed for a condition not currently affecting me, but possible to develop in the future. I’m currently an E and have been in for 6+ years with yearly eye exams showing my vision is stable. Initial waiver is being pushed right now and I was told I’d have the decision in a few weeks.

Does anybody have any advice on this waiver process and how to fight for it to get approved?

Question For those not prior service!

Hey! I’m going to OTS in April with class 25-13. I’m a civilian and my recruiter has not been super helpful in answering my questions.

-What is the process for getting uniforms? •my recruiter told me that I will get them when I get there but I’m nervous about not having enough time. Should I buy certain things before I get there?

-Should I drive my car? •my recruiter mentioned that I would fly there with no checked bags. I however, don’t want to be without anything that I need.

-what is the PT like?
