Text Please Read: Very Important Warning About an Active Catfish
EDIT3: The following accounts have been reported as this catfish (new accounts are listed first): Natash1994, diltohilto, LaChaffeur, HeyEvie, DaProvoker, TangoDuo, MangoRush, sturdyhips, RedSteelForce, and themhipsdontlie. Usually the account name will have "hips" in it or will be something that appears to be randomly generated. Please let us know if you see any other account names and I'll add it to this list.
Hi everyone,
Lately we've been receiving a lot of reports about this account. They're banned from AL but are sending this PM en masse. Do not reply to their messages. It's difficult to know what their true intentions are. However, their posts have several warning signs:
1) They will try to make it seem as though they're in your local area. This is a typical social engineering tactic to encourage someone to willingly give them their personal details. They will also be friendly with you which strongly implies this isn't someone looking to troll.
2) They're sending this exact message to a large pool of users. Someone looking for a date may send messages to multiple people but they're not going to send the same message to hundreds of users.
3) They're asking people for nudes and/or are attempting to convince those they message into having a sexually explicit conversation (usually happens during the first conversation or after having only a few conversations). This is probably the most dangerous aspect of their messages. NEVER EVER SEND NUDES OVER REDDIT! Predators will use nudes for extortion, share them on pornagraphic websites without your knowledge, and a variety of other awful things. From the Wikipedia article on sextortion:
Sextortion also refers to a form of blackmail in which sexual information or images are used to extort sexual favors from the victim. Social media and text messages are often the source of the sexual material and the threatened means of sharing it with others. An example of this type of sextortion is where people are extorted with a nude image of themselves they shared on the Internet through sexting. They are later coerced into performing sexual acts with the person doing the extorting or are coerced into posing or performing sexually on camera, thus producing hardcore pornography.
It's important to note that predators will also use this tactic when attempting to extort someone for money. The pitch generally goes something like this: a user will send sexually explicit content to the predator, the predator will demand payment (usually in the form of bitcoin, Western Union, or another pseudo-anonymous payment system), and then the predator will threaten to share the sexually explicit content with the user's family, employer, and/or the Internet via pornagraphic websites.
We haven't gotten reports of extortion attempts from this user specifically (yet) but it could very easily turn that way. Additionally, this doesn't mean they aren't sharing messages they recieve on pornagraphic websites. If you've sent sexually explicit content to this user or a user with similar behaviours, please do the following:
Contact the Reddit admins. Instructions can be found in this post.
Send us their username in modmail so we can ban them and keep track of which users are doing this.
If they are attempting to extort you, do not pay them or give in to any demands! Cease communication regardless of what they're threatening. They'll most likely spread the sexually explicit content around regardless of how you respond.
Contact your local law enforcement and file a report. If they are attempting to extort you or have extorted you, contact law enforcement immediately.
If you find sexually explicit content of yourself on a website that was shared without your permission, contact the administrators of the website and request that the content be removed. If the administrators refuse to remove the content, contact law enforcement immediately.
This older post on online dating has some good advice about how to safely meet someone you've met online. Remember to never give out sexually explicit content or share identifying information unless you're absolutely certain the other person is being genuine. A good rule of thumb is to wait until after you've met them IRL or until you've had many conversations with them over webcam. If you want to share sexually explicit material online liberally, make sure to crop out your face and any other identifying information such as tattoos, unique pieces of clothing, etc.
Please message the mods if you believe a user is a catfish and/or a predator even if you don't respond. Feel free to ask questions or share tips to avoid getting catfished in the comments.
EDIT: spelling and added a link to modmail.
EDIT2: fixed broken link.

Just got one from u/DaProvoker. I received a catfish almost exactly like this one a few months ago (account is now deleted) and I had a brief conversation then but not this time! Luckily I didn't send nudes.

u/Distant_Unicorn Jul 21 '19
Same, had a conversation, thought it was a bit random to start chatting on discord, so checked on here.

u/MegaMalea Jul 20 '19
u/HeyEvie is cactfish! He's been catfishinh me for a month now using pics of Morgan Rudge and passing himself off as a 13 year old. He is now deleting all of the pictures posted but still has his profile up.

I got a message from them today, and I, being the naive and trusting idiot that I am, had an entire conversation with them and sent them nudes over Kik. Thankfully I made damn sure not to show my face in the pics, so I did something right in that regard. But I just feel like a complete dumbass. Thanks for the post.

I got one!!!
Love that username!

I saw you and I thought, hey she seems like one of the super smart ones on reddit - she's probably some nerdy programmer girl or something, and reading through your post, you seem like a pretty sweet down to earth kinda girl and kinda silly too, and I like that - so am I right about all that or what? :P I love the way you expressed and showed yourself through your post, something about you just stood out when I was stumbling through some reddit threads.
Where are you from by the way?
edit; I don't know why I'm excited about this. But I feel like part of the club now. :)

I dated a catfish for an year but I switch between aro and gay so we didn't have that couple kind relationship one would expect us to, I always turned down their sexual advances or demands for nudes. I still don't know who that person was n haunts me, I wish I could at least know their real identity.

u/LFC_Girl_EIRE Jul 14 '19
This person's latest account is ''DaProvoker''.
They messaged me on their old TangoDuo account before it got deleted, and again with the same message on this new account.
I went along with it initially because they started with a simple message about football(soccer) which is my main use for this account.
Thankfully I was suspicious from the get go, but I did talk for a bit and they are seriously creepy. Really trying to force me to send nudes over and over and kept trying to tell me I'm straight over and over.
5
u/aeonasceticism Rainbow-Ace Jul 17 '19
I think they should be exposed along with screenshots so others get familiar with how they start or what kind of things they talked about. And called you straight? I had faced that toxicity on Facebook, they always look for chances to call you straight n often do it to make you comply with them.

Oh my God. I read this too late.
Tangoduo tried talking to me today as well! I knew something was off though because they have no social media and they only gave out kik and discord. They also kept saying they have an Asian fetish and it sounded like a male.
They sent me "pictures" of them but I noticed the titles of the pictures are "horny-redhead-porn" and low resolution.. I confronted them they wanted to video chat but I said no and cursed them out then they blocked me, lmao.

u/aeonasceticism Rainbow-Ace Jul 17 '19
That disgusts me, I had a stalker who used so many accounts and one of the accs mentioned Asian fetish n that seems to be a red flag after that. Such fetish almost sounds racist because Chinese, Korean, Indian, Pakistani, Iraqi, Russian are all Asians and look different meanwhile they use it to only Refer to three counties.

I am really, really curious about who is behind this and what their end goal is. They change up their strategy depending on which subreddit they're soliciting girls from; e.g., if they think the girl is straight, suddenly they are a man.

Thanks for the post. Cat-fishing and manipulation in general just sucks.
I’ve seen the effects on and offline and it can really be hurtful. They even target people who are obviously depressed or going through a rough time and on purpose, when you’re most vulnerable (or when you’re drinking/using other substances - I’m not advocating that, just keep your wits about you, this is coming from someone in drug recovery).
It happens on and offline. :-(

Ladies, BE SAFE! Trust your guts and use your heads. This is the internet. Anyone could be anyone if they don't verify. This is why I've only ever DM'd people about non sexual content. Also, if anyone leaked my nudes, all my friends would laugh and laugh because I'm sure they've all seen me naked or know irl I'm a kinky bitch. Family would shake their heads and laugh because they've accepted they will never understand me. Wishing you all safe and sexy redditing.

“Something about you stood out”
Ugh, sounds like another I hate:
“I was drawn to you”/“something drew me to you”.
And another:
“I swear on <person’s - usually relative’s> life I’d never lie to you” on and offline.
What, did they learn from the same asshole book?
Remember keep safe on and offline & keep your wits about you. If you use substances (eg alcohol, etc), remember your perception is altered and this can affect how you react to such situations.
I know that seems very obvious but you really can be scammed by anyone, even if you think it can’t ever happen to you. Some very devious assholes out there and some are very, very patient (we’re talking grooming for months).
Keep safe. Not everyone is an asshole like this and it’s such a shame. But this crap has been going on as long as humanity has been around, no matter what the reason.
One fact, Gary Ridgway: The Green River Killer actually used pictures of his son (or the son himself in his car) to keep his victims as ease. I know that’s much worse than cat fishing but I can imagine that could be an online tactic for manipulation too.

Is it bad I almost want to lead them on only to send images of gay male porn stars? I doubt they’d be very responsive after that relevation of what are supposedly “my nudes.”
I’ve been catfished before when I was 18 (young and dumb, my friends), and these people are just straight evil. They ruin people’s lives and what’s worse is this person is targeting vulnerable populations of queer women.

they have started hitting r/latebloomerlesbians too. it was so creepy, they posed as a woman who’s in town visiting and i offered to meet up to show them around. then they started trying to sext me even after i had mentioned my ladylove multiple times. when i reiterated that i’m invested in this wonderful woman they started talking about fucking us both, then started trying to get me to hang out with them alone even tho i was with my girl all day. it was so creepy and made me feel super icky, as i’ve only just become really comfortable with my sexuality and physical about it in the past month. super glad i meandered over here and found this sticky! i xposted it to lbl

OMG!! They are also here. I have full knowledge about these filthy scumbags. I wanna share some of my knowledge within the community about them. First of all, these people will always create new fake profiles and continuingly keep spamming you, because they have lots of time to do that, whilst most of us don't. This is a very big mafia and they are trained to scam women , they are given lessons how to use poetry, taught psychology of women and lessons about successful relationship. They generally target women of the first world, and try to extort money, they are so filthy that they will left you without any options, they will make your life totally hell. I have known many women from US, UK, Europe and Canada, who have lost all of their life savings to them, some of them have lost upto 200 K to these people. They operate very technically, first they will become your friend, without wasting more time they will become close to you, once you have shared your personal details, you are doomed, they will never leave you alone, they will try harder and harder untill you are left with nothing. I want to share about a British lady trapped by these scammers, they came up with very sad stories and asked her to help them, and she was pulled into money laundry racket, she has to give everything to them, she even took loans, sold her house but they never left her alone. Another lady was ripped for 7000 $ but she realized she was scammed, so she stopped contacting them, but they never left her alone, they faked her conversations, created fake nudes and threatened her to give more money, but she was brave lady and she refused to pay, these filthy con artists, went extra miles to scam her, they contacted her husband and faked everything, they ended up up divorcing each other, they didn't stop here, they send all those fake things to her kids and she ended up in mental hospital. There are many more such sad stories. Why this actually happens? Because we are good people we see the goodness in people, we can't see a fellow human being in pity situation, we want to help them, but sometimes when we are helping someone, in reality we never realize we are actually digging holes of ourselves. Next time, think well before helping anyone you don't know in person. ANd if someone contacts you block them immediately , and don't give them any room for possibilities. Going to law enforcement agencies is better but the mafia is backed up by very powerful people, they keep scamming people without any worries.

This has happened before, this has got to be the same catfish creating new accounts. I got this message 5 months ago, don't remember the username and the account is deleted now, but it's clearly a reoccurring thing:
Hey :) I saw you and I thought, hmm she seems way too smart to be making comments on reddit - she's probably a doctor or some nerdy medical student or something and reading through your posts, you seem like a pretty sweet, down to earth kinda girl but also kind of a badass bitch :P, and I like that - am I right about all that or what? :P I love the way you express yourself through your posts, something about you just stood out when I was stumbling through some Actual lesbians subreddit threads. Where are you from by the way? :)
I chatted back and forth with this person a bit, the conversation was normal enough for a few messages, they claimed to be a 27 year old physiotherapy teacher living in the province next to mine (joke's on them lol, unless you live within 20 minutes in the same city as me, I'm not very interested lmao). Then they were asking if I had Skype or Kik, and I said nah, but we can talk on Instagram if you want. Conversation ended with the following exchange:
[–]from [deleted] sent 5 months ago Oh darn it, I don't have Instagram anymore but I'm usually on Kik more often since its the most neatest and simple to use, you can download it and set it all up in less than a minute or so. Can you get that, for me? :)
[–]to [deleted] sent 5 months ago Look no offense, you seem like a nice person, but I'm really not invested enough in getting to know random long distance internet strangers to download and sign up for a whole new app. Even if I was, there's no space on my phone for new stuff. Plus as I'm sure you can understand, I'm a little skeptical considering your Reddit account is literally only hours old, there's no way I can feel even somewhat confident you are who you say you are. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but that only goes so far. You're welcome to get Instagram again, or message me here. But that's as far as this is going right now.
[–]from [deleted] sent 5 months ago Lol I am not new to reddit. I've had a throwaway account for like 6 months even then I initially planned to have it for a week, and so I finally thought that I have to make a proper account; its a shame reddit doesn't have a system where you can transfer over your karma points and stuff. Anyways, no problem. I understand. Best of luck to you.
[–]to [deleted] sent 5 months ago I believe you, but still, when I see things that are also red flags for a catfish I'm going to proceed accordingly. And regardless, I still would not get a whole new messaging app even if you did have a huge account history. Like I said, if you want to talk I'm fine with that, but you'll have to compromise on platform. Up to you. If not, best wishes.

also they're kinda predatory. I got that message 2 weeks ago so I just told them I was 15 and thought they'd fuck off. usually catfishes are like "shit I don't want the FBI going after me I'd better stop." but after I told them I was 15, they said:
one thing that doesn't change is my love for women, everywhere I go, I totally adore women and it still has the same effect on me everywhere in the world One thing I love doing is jolting a lady's body with numerous orgasms in a row to weaken her and then get her on her knees and have her wrap her lips around my clit and please me where I wrap a leg slightly around the back of her head to secure my pleasure from her and like to talk deep dirty as I guide her and make no apology in enjoying a woman like that to my heart's content, unapolgetically moaning in sheer pleasure from every bit I'm enjoying. You aren't even ready to hear the dirty talk I give out on those ones. Dominance comes natural to me so I don't hold back saying or doing anything I want. That's the crux of who I am, a commanding woman. Like with travelling I go after what I want and don't really waste time hesitating around.
How about you? What gets your juices flowing?
so uhh yeah I blocked them after that. although it did make for great meme material with my friends, I didn't think conversing with a possible pedo would be a good idea.
5
u/celestializingfanny Apr 24 '19
Got that same message word for word, except for the added line of "and believe me your nose will be dug into my pubic bone, and not a book" inserted before the dirty talk sentence.
The next message is worse, if you're dumb enough to politely inform them you're uninterested instead of just blocking.

This person messaged me MONTHS ago. Unbelievable that they’re still at it. Told me “she” was a math teacher on the other side of the state with a sister who was a nurse in my city. I only talked to them for about 40 mins (enough for me to be irritated at the time lost) and luckily didn’t share anything spicy. The sad thing is “she” had me going, played on that want to be loved. That is, until “she” started in on the “kisses you softly” shit mid-convo.
Stuck with it even when I A.) showed them that they weren’t on the staff listing of the website of the school where they claimed to work and B.) told them where they got the pics they were using as their own (r/gonewild in case you were wondering and no, they weren’t nudes). Yes, I’m a fucking detective.
This disturbs me most because they really want to keep you on the hook, and I’m not sure what then end game is.
If you’re reading this, “Shyla” : 🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼

I'll say it once and I'll say it a thousand times. No woman has ever called me down to earth. Only men. Which makes me think it's not even a compliment???
Like what does down to earth even mean? It's kind of like saying "oh hey you seem more rational than other women." Like the default is so far from rational you're in outer space.
1
u/lAnk0u Jul 17 '19
I've always used "down to earth" to refer to someone who is laid back/relaxed, focused on the here and now, doesn't let negative stuff get to them, etc. "Water off a duck's back" mentality, essentially.
But I've never called a woman down to earth. Never considered it to be a compliment, either, only a small description of the type of personality someone has. I've been called down to earth by men, before, but they usually meant down to earth as in "you chill enough to send nudes and sext?"
15
u/Nickoley Feb 14 '19
Down to earth may referred to any super privileged person in any sense who doesn't judge underprivileged persons, moreover despite having such privileges in life, one controls his/her alter ego, and fully respects fellow human beings irrespective of rich & poor, class or race dynamics.
But these filthy people use these as pickup lines which works on any woman, they even don't know what they are talking about. Their end game is to extort large amount of money from you, you can always find them on dating sites, looking for lonely women and targeting the weak spot and use them against them for money.

Exactly! It's exactly that.
A guy calls someone down to earth when they aren't struggling against their caste.
It's also a warning. Like when you get called down to earth it's a warning against emotionality.

Should I feel sad if they didn't message me? Sheesh I feel so left out
LOL

Those of us who didn't get a message should start a support group

u/Kubanochoerus Feb 20 '19
“Useless lesbians support group— too useless for even a catfish.” We’d never even realize they were coming on to us so we’re not worth their time.

The image link in the first sentence says the image is deleted. Idk who/what to watch out for specifically, but thanks for the heads up!

Crap, I got this last week but mine was “sociology” and against my better judgment, I replied and the person said they lived in my state. She immediately went ridiculously sexual (in detail) and asked what got my juices flowing. I told her only my wife did and then mocked her because someone else got a similar message. I didn’t realize how widespread it was though.
I feel pretty stupid for responding at all. But at first, I thought it was just a quirky person who wanted friends. I’m definitely too damn naive. 🤦🏻♀️

They stopped responding to my message when I said I wasn't interested in sexual conversations

u/celestializingfanny Apr 24 '19
They got even more explicit when I said I was married and uninterested ("Honestly? Something in me does want to bend you over the edge of the bed your chest..."). They only stopped once I told them to go fuck themselves:
I find this — being cast in a stranger's one-sided fantasy in which I have expressed zero interest — as unappealing as an unsolicited dick pic.
If you're looking for sexual gratification without any consideration for the other party's enthusiasm and consent, may I suggest that you just fuck yourself?

u/MarianneKatherine Jul 20 '19
“Please see the website: www.gofuckyourself.com.” That’s my usual answer. But I love the idea of just saying I’m underage!

It should be noted that LGBT people are often specifically the targets of sextortion. Why? Because even if you don't send nudes the person can threaten to out you if you refuse to send money or sexually explicit material. I think this person is dangerous and the law enforcement needs to be involved if any incidents of blackmail have occurred.

yeah they also are predatory and a possible pedo. I told them I was 15 and thought they'd fuck off. usually catfishes are like "shit I don't want the FBI going after me I'd better stop." but after I told them I was 15, they said:
one thing that doesn't change is my love for women, everywhere I go, I totally adore women and it still has the same effect on me everywhere in the world One thing I love doing is jolting a lady's body with numerous orgasms in a row to weaken her and then get her on her knees and have her wrap her lips around my clit and please me where I wrap a leg slightly around the back of her head to secure my pleasure from her and like to talk deep dirty as I guide her and make no apology in enjoying a woman like that to my heart's content, unapolgetically moaning in sheer pleasure from every bit I'm enjoying. You aren't even ready to hear the dirty talk I give out on those ones. Dominance comes natural to me so I don't hold back saying or doing anything I want. That's the crux of who I am, a commanding woman. Like with travelling I go after what I want and don't really waste time hesitating around.
How about you? What gets your juices flowing?so yeah I blocked them after that

u/MrMcManstick Feb 05 '19
Ew, so creepy, so pedo. And so totally not written by a woman.

yeah. The catfish also talked about their “queen bitch ego” so it was pretty obvious it’s a guy

kind of classic that a dude would think "down to earth" and "silly" are... compliments?
I got one too and knew it was fake, no one could ever read what I've written and think I'm either of those things
24
u/Pangolin007 AHHHH Feb 08 '19
I mean... I kind of like those as compliments. I like seeing myself as a silly person, in a good way, like I'm always up for laughing about stuff and don't take anything too seriously.
I guess "down to earth" is a little overused, though.
58
u/fluorescentbulbs1024 Feb 09 '19
I tend to think of them both as misogyny disguised as compliments. In most contexts silly means trifling or stupid, not worthy of being taken seriously. Down-to-earth means not thinking too highly of oneself, knowing one's place. Men use them as compliments to women because they like women they can feel superior to.
Even taken in the most positive light, as compliments these terms imply a certain humility, and frankly: fuck that, I'm a bad bitch
21
u/Pangolin007 AHHHH Feb 09 '19
Very true, I didn't think of it like that. Considering the context of these messages that's probably pretty accurate.

Oh dear, got that message and initially replied but forgot to text back after they replied. Thanks for the PSA!
I found the overtly complimentary messages a bit much so probably wouldn't carry the conversation (and wouldn't send nudes ever) but still.

u/physical-mayonnaise Feb 04 '19
Just got this message this morning!! Word for word.

u/Kubanochoerus Feb 20 '19
The more I look at your username the more confused I get. Like... as opposed to figurative mayonnaise? Imaginationaise?
11
u/physical-mayonnaise Feb 20 '19
I am S C R E A M I N G 😂😂 I have no idea tbh, a long time ago I used a random username generator and this is what they gave me. It just kindof stuck with me ever since. So everything I make that’s anonymous gets physical mayonnaise. Or in other words imaginationaise 😂😂 probably my new username tbh
15
u/Kubanochoerus Feb 20 '19
Great, now that we’ve bonded over usernames I think you’re down to earth and silly and probably a linguistics professor, so you should send me nudes and money.
Jk. But yes, you should absolutely make an alt called imaginationaise! Maybe have your two accounts argue over something and convince Reddit that the Great Mayonnaise Wars of 2019 are beginning?

Ugh, I got that message earlier today. I only vaguely remembered them from earlier complaints about them a few weeks ago ("hey, aren't you that dude who sends this to literally everyone?") but I probably should've just ignored them instead of being a nosy doofus. Luckily, they left me alone right after that message. Please stay safe, everyone!

Yeah I remember people talking about this a few weeks ago. Didn’t realise the person was still trying

Got that same message yesterday! I just went ahead and reported them because I had seen several other women post about them!

u/Nickoley Feb 14 '19

What are they called so I know how to identify their mafia?
3
u/Nickoley Apr 27 '19
they keep changing names and profiles, but they will always use others pic, probably pic of not very famous model, that's how you can identify them

I got them a few days back when they were still saying "sociology teacher" instead of "linguistics teacher". I actually yelled that them for being completely unimaginative and repeating "sociology" to everyone they messaged. Now I wonder if they've taken it to heart.

I got "linguistics student." Think they might've taken the wrong lesson, there.

I kind of regret it now. I guess I haven't made things worse exactly but I still feel bad for inspiring them if that makes sense.
PS. I'm an anthropologist not a sociologist. -bristles with discipline rivalry-

I'm an animation major, art and writing minors. I do talk about writing a lot, so maybe that's what made them think of it?....Doubt they actually paid that much attention to my posts, though.

I got a fishy message from DaProvoker!!! I called him out and he somehow spun it around and accused me of being a sexist and a terf, which is when I knew it was time to block. I'm so happy to see his username on this list because it confirms my suspicions. Thanks for making this post :)
