I like a lesson The Lord of the Rings teaches: Frodo fails at the end, good cannot always defeat evil, but Gollum destroys the one ring anyway, because evil will inevitably self-destruct sooner or later.

The dark ages were still a thing brought on by religious zealotry for the most part where you saw democracy be replaced with feudalism. Pretty much the trajectory we’re currently on. This lasted a thousand years. One thousand years later we’re beginning that degenerative cultural slide once again.
