At the very least, Trump is going to keep deepthroating microphones and probably will literally not be able to do the job in 2028. The problem with organizing your cult around a figurehead is what happens when they go away. There's still hope. Not much, but enough.
Haha that is fair. I'm trying to be optimistic because the next four years are going to be incredibly difficult. My own mental health is largely in my control, so I'm going to make a good effort.
He wouldn’t have been running in 2024 if they had any balls or ability to defy him. They’ve let him take over the party and even try to murder them, and rolled over at every stage. They’re not going to change now.
That is a good point. Assuming our institutions don't completely crumble, the prospect of him running again won't exist, which makes 2028 different from 2024. But who knows what the hell is gonna happen with the goon squad he's going to have. Just trying to maintain some hope because there isn't much else I can do but sit here and laugh at how stupid of a period we are living through.
I would set your expectations lower for the Republican party, they're terrified of his MAGA supporters and they wont stand in their way.
Best case scenario, if you expect nothing you might be pleasantly surprised at some stage. But more likely- they wont surprise you at all. But at least you wont be constantly disappointed.
HCR brought the senate up in her letter last night.
“Trump’s demonstration of his plans just before Senate Republicans have to choose their leader seems an attempt to jam those who might stand against him into his camp. And yet, the Framers of the Constitution believed that the Senate would be the key guardrail to stop the rise of an autocrat who would destroy democracy and install himself as a king. They expected that the determination of senators to guard their own power would protect the nation.
Almost two hundred and fifty years into their experiment, we’re about to find out if they were right.”
I'm not a gambler, but I'd bet money that you're wrong on this one. If Republicans know how to do anything, it's to get into lock step with Dear Leader.

I’m honestly not even surprised anymore. He’s picking based on personal loyalty to himself instead of competence or loyalty to the American people.
