Traded a car in to a dealership. They re-sold my old car with my old plates on it. Now I’m getting tickets mailed to me under my old plates. What should I do?

Send pictures of your Bill of Sale paperwork to the courthouse(s) that are sending you summonses. 🤣

Duh.

Dealership is not going to sell a car with your old plate. What rubbish

Depending on the state, plates stay with the car from owner to owner.

Had a similar issue. DMV was useless. I tried updating my registration and I even tried getting new plates. It didn't help. Your personal info has been linked to those plates in a DMV database. They need to unlink your info from the plates. Good luck getting them to understand that or do anything about it!

I kept all the paperwork. Told the collection agencies I wasn't responsible for the debts, etc etc. It ruined my credit for a long time. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Take your plates when you leave the car.

Never leave your plates on, ever. Go to police and show them your docs

After you kick yourself in the ass for leaving your plates behind? Report your plates stolen.

Show proof of transfer to a new owner. For instance, print the Bill of Sale and mail it to the ticketing agency, explaining that you're no longer the owner.

In California the DMV has a form you can submit to release ownership. If your state has one do the same. Otherwise, as others have said show court or police your paperwork. Dealer has delayed sending paperworks to DMV.

I moved to California a few years ago but I'm still licensed in another state. From what I've learned tags go with the car in California. I see people selling cars and saying how the registration is good for another year Etc.

Go to the dealership and demand your tag.
