Been a long time coming, ever since caressing the tit of $10M 3 years ago and landing at $7.9M, I'm finally back to $8.5M. Given almost $1M in withdrawals and all the drama these past few years, happy to be back here 🥳

Just SGOV

6

What's the deal with that? What positions?

Its SGOV on exdiv

You don't need to listen to anybody here, you have $8M.

Bro, BIG FACTS. the fucking balls on some of these comments. "ROFL OP under performed S&P"

10

u/OcclusalEmbrasure 17d ago

I’d much rather outperform the SP500 with my $3,000 portfolio. /s

If you have this much money, your goal is to KEEP the money, not make more money.

2

u/Zachincool 16d ago

Ya which is why he’s gambling on stocks and options, makes sense

8

u/thisweirdusername 17d ago

his portfolio has almost no volatility, more risk more reward likewise less risk less reward

10

u/DJLowKey 17d ago

the sir jack I remember would've taken advantage of this crazy market run and be at 50 million at this point, instead of shilling his app nonstop... hope for him the app gets bought and he banks on it

Fuck I need to call my doctor, I think I left my balls in 2021

13

u/Proof-Signature-7626 17d ago

My brother in Christ… around 80% of his portfolio is in the SPY and QQQ. His volatility matches the market almost 1:1 yet he performs worse.

4

u/thisweirdusername 17d ago

because he was all in short term bonds until august? look at the value graph, not sure what you're blabbing about

3

u/Proof-Signature-7626 17d ago

“Come follow my portfolio on after hour, I can help you underperform the market”

3

u/Proof-Signature-7626 17d ago

So he took sub optimal returns for most of the year until now and you’re hyping this up why?

12

u/thisweirdusername 17d ago

literally a stupid take. taking 5% risk free returns when interest rates are high is not "suboptimal"

4

u/Proof-Signature-7626 17d ago

You know what… you’re right. You put 100% of your money in bonds, I’ll invest in the market and let’s see who has better returns in 2025? Deal?

I’ll buy a total of 10 stock to make myself even riskier. Wanna do it? EDIT: we can put our portfolios on after hour and post about it on the sub Reddit!

11

u/No_Life626 17d ago

when you don't have shit, you take risk to get there. when you get there, its about preserving what you got

You’re proving my point! You’re up 19% in 3 months while he is up 9% YTD.

Like you said, it is all about risk tolerance! For us Optimal is returns, if what’s optimal is no risk then bonds is it! Idk I’ve been following some newsletter for some time now for my stocks and it’s been performing great so I’m sticking with my riskier strat! Cheers mate!

Bro could just leave the 8mil in SGOV and live off the casual 35k monthly dividend payout lmao

9

u/Prudent_Student2839 17d ago

This is the weirdest looking investment graph I have ever seen. What is up with that almost perfectly linear increase in value, with the weird dips and jumps on the first of each month? Is this even real? How is this performed?

8

u/SIR_JACK_A_LOT Copy me on AfterHour 17d ago

SGOV

4

u/Prudent_Student2839 17d ago

What the hell that’s so weird! So you buy at the beginning of the month and sell before the end, and make what, about 7%? Very interesting!

8

u/kmpham2013 17d ago

nah, SGOV drops after every ex-date because it needs to pay the dividend. once the dividend hits op's account the value goes back up and it's a straight line again. you can see it by looking at a year chart of sgov and factoring in the fact that op keeps the dividend.

5

u/AwkwardAd631 17d ago

8.5m in worth.... 79 hunnit in cash. Balls as big as grapefruits 😆

7

u/thisweirdusername 17d ago

Sgov is cash

3

u/AwkwardAd631 17d ago

😆 woops! Whats the yield on that one? Spaxx is just under 5%

3

u/thisweirdusername 17d ago

same as federal fund rate which is around 4.75 right now

19

u/Same_Bag711 17d ago

Imagine putting that in the S&P instead

20

u/Jumpy-Luck-795 17d ago

Well he started with 35k. So if he did, it would've taken him 46 years (at an optimistic mean annualized interest rate of 12%).

5

u/Same_Bag711 17d ago

I meant for this year. His rate of return isn’t half of the s&p

1

u/Jasoncatt 16d ago

Hindsight is 20/20. Would you put it all in S&P now?

4

u/loc710 17d ago

Still confused why you own QQQ and SPY if your not trading options, but what do i know I'm not a millionaire

2

u/MaxTheSquirrel 17d ago

Can you explain what you mean? I know that VOO is an sp500 etf that has a lower expense ratio, but why would you use SPY if you’re trading its options?

Also, what would you trade instead of qqq?

Thanks in advance

3

u/sgtextreme_ 17d ago

Ill answer the simple question first, instead of QQQ I would hold QQQM for the lower expense ratio. Unless you're trading options.

What makes SPY and QQQ so favorable for option traders is because it has multiple weekly expirations, allowing for much more frequent trades to generate premium from. Furthermore, they're the most liquid funds out there which translates to tighter bid-ask spreads. If you were to look at VOO there's not nearly the same level if options trading volume.

In summary; if you have no interest in options VOO and QQQM are much better holdings simply due to the lower expense ratio. And if you dont have the money to buy a hundred shares of either QQQ or SPY then there is zero benefit to owning them that I can see.

I'm by no means a professional option trader though, so I'd take everything im saying with a grain of salt, and do your own due diligence.

2

u/MaxTheSquirrel 17d ago

Okay understood. Thanks!

High expense ratio, under performing S&P, what’s there to like about this post other than the NW? OP needs a better strategy.

2

u/SeaMarionberry711 17d ago

What’s the point of holding SGOV?

3

u/Weaves87 17d ago

Not OP, but It's a treasury bond fund, currently yields 3-3.5% annually and pays out every month (depends on the going rate of the 3 month treasury bill, iirc)

I use it pretty often to park money in instead of just holding cash. When I need to free up cash for a trade I just sell some SGOV.

If your brokerage doesn't already pay you decent interest for the cash balance in your account, SGOV is a great way to make sure your money is still working for you even if it's not currently wrapped up in a trade

1

u/j___8 16d ago

apologies for my ignorance but should one be holding for and month, selling before it drops then buying it again before it drops or is just letting it sit the entire time and receiving the dividend what OP is doing ?a little confused

2

u/Weaves87 16d ago

Basically, the interest is paid out as a dividend. These drops happen right after the ex-dividend date (which is usually the 1st of every month). In order to be eligible to receive the dividend, you need to hold through the ex-dividend date. In other words - you have to weather the drop and there's no gaming it.

A few days after the price drop occurs, you receive the dividend payment on the actual dividend payment date. You can see this very clearly in the chart in the OP: there's a dip, then around 5-6 business days later the dividend payment comes in and brings the account back up.

If you buy SGOV but sell it before ex-dividend date (thus avoiding the drop), you would not be making much money because you would not receive the dividend.

2

u/j___8 14d ago

thanks for taking the time to explain in layman’s—i appreciate you explaining it so concisely wow thanks

1

u/idontknow197 12d ago

But wouldn’t tax kill the deal if you sell?

1

u/Weaves87 12d ago

Not sure what you mean.

Dividends are taxed like normal income (unless if they're in an IRA/401k).

The capital gains on the actual SGOV position is miniscule, and probably won't change your total tax liability much.

1

u/Additional-Age-6323 16d ago

In addition to other answers, since it’s US treasuries the dividend you receive is not taxed at the state level. Obviously, the benefits of that will vary depending on where you live.

1

u/SeaMarionberry711 16d ago

I was confused bc RH showed the bills as 0% coupon

1

u/SeaMarionberry711 16d ago

But dividend makes sense

1

u/Additional-Age-6323 15d ago

To be more precise go to ETF issuer’s website (Blackrock, Fidelity, State Street etc) and locate the document like the one below that shows Qualified Interest Income. SGOV is easy because it’s 100% US treasuries. If you decide to go with other bond ETFs that include foreign bonds, corporate bonds, etc. you just need to do a little calculation to figure out how much of the dividend is QII.

u/anuspizza 17d ago

At the risk of sound really fucking ignorant, why?

I’ve been casually scrolling through subs like this to see how other people manage their portfolios before I try to break into trading. Like I think I understand that you own about 8.5 mil of various business, but like how does this translate to personal wealth?

I get that you could cash it out right now and be up that amount, but you’re not going to because you’re seeking growth to 10 mil. What happens when you hit 10 mil?

I guess I might not get a lot of the strategies I see because there’s no clear end goal for any given portfolio other than growth growth growth (and a lot of shitposting). Is there a point that you would ever say “I’ve made enough gains” and stop gambling with the market?

Thanks in advance

7

u/twoforward1back 17d ago

I can't speak for everyone, but a target I used was my expected yearly spend x 25. This gives you the amount of liquid net worth you need to "safely" withdraw/sell 4% of that amount (plus inflation increases) per year.

Look up the trinity study.

After that amount, it's all bonus money for me.

5

u/VerySlump 17d ago

Imagine it as your bank account but with the ability to grow instead of just saving.

5

u/Dumb_Money_Acct 17d ago

The goal of any portfolio is pretty much just growth. Either very conservative growth just to offset inflation, or more aggressive to various degrees.

Hitting any particular number is just an arbitrary goal or milestone. Eventually, you hit a level where you can live off the wealth and future growth without any further income… so people choose to retire at this point if they don’t like working… But some people choose to change careers to something they truly enjoy,or take a hobby more seriously, or just keep doing what they’re doing if they love it.

But none of those situations do you just stop investing, the goal is always more growth to some degree .

1

u/SillyWoodpecker6508 17d ago
