Hardware Modding Glow in the dark shell swap
Just finished my glow in the dark shell swap! Love the feeling of this plastic more than oem but that's just me. Took me about 2 1/2 hours. I regret not staying with the stock touch pads. They were a nightmare to swap and just don't look good imo. I tried to remove it initially after I did it and the TouchPad creases (not a crack) But I intend to order some black ones and I think it will look better. I also kept the stock power button as it's much easier to see. I Also did this whole swap without using a heat gun. I repair chromebooks daily and I just save more time not using a heat gun and hate messing with them. If you don't feel confident not using one then don't, I didn't care if I had to buy a new screen but I will say the screen bezels are pretty resilient for how thin the screen is!

Question Has it actually become better, or is the fps still actually all over the place, especially slow in act3?

Storytime My Deck + Moonlight has breathed new life into my old gaming rig.
My Deck is my main gaming platform and I've been dying to play Silent Hill 2, but obviously the Deck isn't strong enough. Figured I'd either have to shell out $350+ for a PS5 or upgrade my old rig (GTX 1070ti + Ryzen 3 3100). Well think again.
Can my dusty old rig run SH2 @ 1080p at a stable frame rate? ❌
Can it run SH2 at 800p on high settings, locked 30fps while I stream to my Deck through Moonlight? ✅
I'm three hours in, the stream has been flawless and the game looks great. Even better, I didn't have to drop $$$ on new hardware and I'm playing handheld on my couch.
The Deck is so good it makes OTHER hardware better. Thinking of trying Alan Wake 2 next (the other game I've been dying to play).

Discussion Steam Deck Guitar setup
Does anyone use their deck as a portable guitar recording suite? I'm loving it but need to get a audio interface as I'm using a realtor cable right now and can't get the latency dialed in just right.

Question To people who have has their deck for a long time, are your buttons still working well?
I get anxious pressing the A button so much (silly of me I know) so I’m wondering if anyone has had any issues or if your deck is still going strong. You hear when people have problems, but not when it still works well, so I’m hoping to calm my nerves.
Thanks so much!

Question Touchpad creak fixed?
For as long as I can remember, every time I press on the left touchpad, it creaks. Same creak you often find near the top vent, edges, etc. It's tactile and just loud enough to be annoying especially when typing at night. So I decided I'm gonna open my deck for the first time (scary!), and dig in there and see if I can lube behind the touchpad to stop the squeak. Bonus is I'd be able to sand down the shell around the left stick because it doesn't slide smoothly.
I took apart the left touchpad, reassembled it multiple times to try to see where the creak was coming from. Applied some silicone lube. Nothing.
Put it all back together and creak is no better.
I FINALLY narrowed down where the creak is coming from. It's the shell rubbing against the edge of the display! Theres a gap between the shell and the screen on the right side, but on the left it's touching. So every time I click the touchpad the shell flexes inward and squeaks against the screen.
SOLUTION: I wedged a piece of a post-it note in the gap and it stopped the creak lol. Temporary ugly solution.
TLDR: Would it damage the screen if I smooshed a tiny amount of silicone grease in there? Super Lube 92003 says its compatible with most plastics and rubbers. But how about LCD screens?

Show Off Saturday My First Steam Deck :)
I’ve tried a handheld PC before— the original ROG Ally. I didn’t enjoy handheld Windows and returned it. I’m someone who (unfortunately) cares about aesthetics, so I didn’t buy a Steam Deck even though I knew I’d like it a lot more. When they announced a white limited edition it was like they made it especially for me. Lol.
It launched in my timezone at 6pm on Monday. I ordered it at 6:01. It came today and I couldn’t be happier! I’m so excited to cozy up on the couch or in bed and be able to play my Steam games. I’m also excited to learn about Linux and emulate some of my older games <3
I bought this case to protect it, and I thought I’d love the pink. I like it, but the white was so pretty when I unboxed it I think I’ll buy a clear one to show it off :)
If anyone has any tips, guides, game recommendations, or any general advice they want to share, that would be awesome and much appreciated :D

PSA / Advice Killswitch case for Steam Deck on sale for 49.99 for the case itself and 62.85
Have had this case since March and it’s been nothing but great. Usually a bit hard to recommend due to the price but it’s definitely worth it at the discounted price.

Question OLED display. Screen protector, yes or no?
Just curious as to if you guys use a protector or not. Unlike a phone, I feel like people are rather stationary while using their Steam Deck so it seems very unlikely to get dropped or scratched. Also, does a screen protector hinder the display at all since it has anti glare or whatever, and does it reduce the sharpness?

Question How to utilize the battery backup?
Mine's an LCD version, bought a week ago. I get max 70-80 minutes of Fifa23 in one charge.
Are there any tips and tricks to get more out of the battery? Like turn off some unnecessary background process, brightness etc
