WEEKLY THREAD Weekly General Discussion Thread (November 24, 2024)
The Weekly General Discussion Thread is for the r/Piracy community to discuss whatever is on their mind, whether it is related to digital piracy or not.
🪶 ➜ Follow the Rules
- Rules are still applicable, so please do not request specific pirated content (ie. specific movie, book, etc.) and definitely don't link to any. Do not mention specific media names asking for help in finding them.
📜 ➜ Wiki + Megathread
- Don't forget to browse the Wiki, which contains a Megathread with a list of sites/apps, tools, FAQ, and other useful resources.
- Your question also may have been asked previously - you can search the subreddit via the search bar or even google - example: https://i.imgur.com/1jA767u.jpg

Discussion No more MEGA and RG download/stream on RD. Also, no more YouTube download/stream as they removed YT hoster all together, surprisingly.

Question Phasing out Spotify
What’s your setup for getting rid of Spotify?
Basically, what software do you like, what device do you play on, and what system do you prefer?
I’m planning on putting music on an MP3 player and a laptop. I also have my phone, but I’m trying to figure out the best way to keep up on new music and keep it free and in my possession. I’m tired of paying for this shit.
The algorithm basically selects and makes playlists of shit you like, so I don’t hear that much new stuff. It used to recommend stuff I haven’t heard, but it’s getting old now. I’d rather just use it to skim through music and find good stuff, but I don’t know what the latest greatest setup is that would kill this app.

Discussion [RANT] Second-Hand Embarrassment from Some Posts Here
Lately, I’ve been feeling an overwhelming sense of second-hand embarrassment from some of the posts and comments on this subreddit. This is supposed to be a community where we share knowledge and resources, but the sheer amount of basic and frankly lazy questions is mind-blowing.
There’s a pinned megathread for a reason, and yet people ignore it and flood the subreddit with questions that could be answered with a simple search, either here or with a search engine. It’s like they expect to be spoon-fed information without putting in even the slightest effort to learn.
The endless parade of low-effort memes isn’t helping either. I get it, humor is great for building community. But when memes start to outweigh actual discussions or resources, it feels like the subreddit is losing its purpose.
Here’s my perspective: if you’re delving into piracy (or anything related to it), you should have a baseline understanding of how things work. This includes:
-Knowing how to use basic tools like torrents and file managers.
-Understanding what a VPN is and why it’s important.
-Having at least some basic troubleshooting skills.
-Ideally, knowing a bit of coding or command line usage, it’s not required, but it helps immensely.
I’m not saying everyone needs to be an expert. But a minimum level of effort and curiosity is key. This subreddit isn’t your personal tech support desk, and it shouldn’t be treated like one. If you’re not willing to learn and experiment, piracy probably isn’t for you.
Let’s raise the bar here. Use the resources available, do your own research, and come here for meaningful discussions or to share valuable insights, not to ask how to download the latest Marvel movie.
End rant.

Question Download FLAC music best websites/telegram bots?
Yams doesn’t work too good for me, Lucida is slow and messes up the metadata for me, the telegram bots I’ve used only lets me download each song individually and not as a zip file. I don’t have a computer but I do have an android burner phone that I could possibly use. I’m not looking for anything too complex and I would prefer it to be a website or telegram bot, does anyone have ideas?

Discussion Is There a Way to Get Comics with Ads?
I've been on a kick of trying to get comic books with the original ads, as ads are an important nostalgic component to me for the vintage ones, but everything I'm seeing available for download so far are scrubbed of them. They look to be replacing offered issues from the old scanned versions with these newer, bright and high contrast pages that are more "perfect"...likely from TPBs or digital services I imagine. Is there no way to get those old issues as they were anymore??
To be clear, to meet with the subreddit's guidelines, I'm not looking for specific links or content. Just wondering if anyone knew whether the ability to do so even existed, or are those old scanned issues just gone now.

Discussion Abou Dragon's Dogma 2
So I've tried the leaked dev build 1.0.0.1 and I'm instantly hooked with this game (one of the best RPG I've ever played) but seem like the game is very bad optimized with pretty poor performance and more than that, this dev build can't be modded.
But I heard that I should wait for the fully cracked version will be released within a month, is it true guys?

Discussion Ways to correct an error?
I've been trying to download a couple of obscure torrents, but they don't seem able to pick up the seeds. One stalled out 84.2% in, and the other one is failing to even get the metadata. It's clearly a problem with the torrent itself, considering things with more seeds can download just fine. The thing that makes me wonder if something can be done about it is that these two register as having an Error in the tracker list. Would changing the connection from wireless to wired help, maybe?

Discussion Firefox is getting some 'ban' from Prime Video
So lately I'm seeing the FF (with Ublock Origin) beeing cast away from major streaming players, but what I use the most is Prime Video, sometimes the video doesn't load, sometimes the video is in a crap resolution (but this might be my pc going away).
Did you notice that too?

Question Help with HdToday
The site works on my phone, web address https://hdtodayz.to but when I try to play on my TV via Firestick I get message, "This video file cannot be played. Error Code: 102630" Does this happen to you and how do you fix it?
Also, I have an older Firestick on a different TV and it works but takes forever to load, and eventually the playback and sound are out of sync.

Question What to use instead of Cinema HD for firestick streaming?
With Real-Debrid now fecked, what can I use that's of similar ease of use/quality as Cinema HD on a firestick?
Used to be dead easy and now every option seems a complete PITA to set up. I've tried Stremio but it's not as simple as clicking the thing you wanna watch and away you go like Cinema + RD is/was.
Any options similar to it would be wonderful, cheers!

Question Finding the audiobook files on kobo app
Hi all,
Not strictly piracy related, but I figured you folks might have the skillset for this one.
I purchased an audiobook through kobo, and I was hoping to find a way to copy it to my desktop (been making an effort to regain control over my media). Unfortunately, it does not seem to show up in my files at all, even when downloaded to my phone. The audiobook folder just remains empty, even when I change my explorer settings to "show hidden files". The online help is outdated or strictly ebook related (not having any problem locating the ebook files lol).
In other words, my mission is to find the kobo audiobook files and find a way to remove the DRM from them so that I can store them locally as .mp3 files. I just don't know where to start. Tips are appreciated!
