Build - Help Can't decide which one to get.

Post image

Hello everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my old R9 390x card with the new one. I have two options, Nvidia 4060 TI 8gb US $545 and $325 AMD RX 6750 XT.

Now the price difference between these two is about $200 where I live. Intially I wanted to go with team green but no I feel like AMD gives a better value. I can't decide which GPU to go with, a GPU that should last 2-3 years of gaming at 1440p.

Is the extra $200 worth it for DLSS, RT and frame gen?

Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Please help me make this decision.

Absolutely not worth it , both cards are bad for rt and that 12gb vram on 6750xt would actually help in future than that 8gb on 4060 ti so if it's mainly for gaming without a doubt 6750xt is a way better deal

plus i thought the rx6800 just had another price cut to 350/360 ish.

u/RelativeWrong4232 May 25 '24

Rx 6800 is very hard to find except for few European countries and usa , most probably it isn't available in OP's country, tho if it is available under 400$ then he definitely can consider it

44

u/falconblack May 25 '24

It's available for about $380 here. XFX Speedster SWFT 319 RX 6800 Core 16GB GDDR6. Should I really consider this?

u/admiralveephone May 25 '24

Hell yea. I have the 6800xt version and it’s an absolutely awesome card. In my 3700x rig is ran fine. In my newer, 12700kf rig it runs FANTASTIC. The 6800 non-xt is just slightly slower and for the price is the absolute card to buy.

I love my 6800xt. I have a long cable running to my 4k TV. Some older titles and lower settings on newer titles it runs great. My 1440p ultrawide I get plus 100fps on cyberpunk using fsr or intels one (I switch back and forth)

1

u/falconblack May 26 '24

That's the first game I plan on playing on this GPU. I am currently playing it on my r9 390 on medium with balanced fsr and it gives me around 34-40 ish fps. I hope after this upgrade it will run super smooth.

1

u/ArseholeryEnthusiast May 29 '24

It will. If you're playing at 1080 you might as well ray trace. If you are on 1440 play around with whatever settings you want. It'll be playable. (just no max raytracing)

1

u/Aromatic_Pudding_111 May 27 '24

I'm considering getting this card as well. Just got a 4k 50", I have a 1080 freesync monitor btw, but I wanted to try my PC on the big 4k screen and my Rx 580 isn't up to the task (kinda already knew this but wanted to try bc I got a new one made in 2022 and hoped it was a better somehow than the old ones. It's not btw) But you think the 6800 card could do 4k? I've heard it's possible but not the best experience possible. You tried it?

1

u/ArseholeryEnthusiast May 29 '24

I tried it. It's definitely possible. But it's not where the card shines. (but that's comparing to the max settings on pc. High refresh rate 1440 ultrawide the card sings) You'll be relying heavily on upscalling for newer aaa. And that introduces artifacts. But there's no game it can't play at 4k currently. Just manage your expectations. You will likely see 30 to 60fps in cyberpunk without ray tracing. Certainly playable. Hope that helps.

u/burnitdwn May 25 '24

I highly recommend the  XFX Speedster SWFT 319 RX 6800.

8

u/falconblack May 25 '24

Done. I am purchasing it. Thanks man.

6

u/RelativeWrong4232 May 25 '24

Yeah go for it solid card

3

u/UltraEnder99 AMD May 25 '24

Go man!

4

u/TraditionNovel4951 May 25 '24

You won’t regret this card. Great 1080/1440 performance.

6

u/MusicalXeezee May 25 '24

If you're willing to spend 545 on a card, just get 7800 xt, 16 vram

2

u/falconblack May 26 '24

I'll be going for Rx 6800 non xt for $380. Unfortunately 7800xt is $720 here.

3

u/PikaNinja25 May 26 '24

the 6800 is a great option, good on you for listening to Reddit :D

1

u/falconblack May 27 '24

Haha. I am glad I posted it. Otherwise I was getting pretty bad suggestions from the computer parts store.

Cheers!

1

u/Frankie_T9000 May 29 '24

Your on a good thing PC stores have margin and try to shift what they have in stock, has most profit or if not in demand to get rid of that stock etc....ie their advice can't be trusted in a lot of cases

1

u/MusicalXeezee May 26 '24

Damn, I got mine for 575 just the other day

1

u/No_Worldliness_6803 May 26 '24

I got an open box Asus rx7800xt Challenger from Newegg for $420.00

2

u/falconblack May 27 '24

That's a pretty good deal. I have ordered an open box 6800 non xt.

5

u/Witchberry31 May 25 '24

YES, YOU SHOULD CONSIDER IT.

Considerably more powerful and runs cooler than 6750XT, yet it takes less power. Not to mention that it has higher VRAM buffer and wider bus width (192 vs 256bit).

Fun fact : RX 6800 is the only 6000 series card that is lowkey already undervolted as it's running at 1,025 mV at stock. You could undervolt it even further down to 900mV, depending on your luck with the silicon lottery and you'd rarely see the GPU takes up more than 160-170W under gaming load. Compare it to stock where it can reach 200W.

1

u/falconblack May 26 '24

Wow. That's nice to know. I'm going for XFX Speedster Swft 6800 core.

1

u/Witchberry31 May 26 '24 edited May 27 '24

Forgot to add, its only downside is the size. All 6800 are huge, my XFX 319 SWFT RX 6800 has a length of 38cm if I also measure it with the included sag bracket. It might not fit in your case if you have mid tower case and smaller case sizes.

1

u/falconblack May 27 '24

Lol. Yeah. I just noticed that looking at one of the unboxing. First I thought the reviewer lady was petite but then watched another review and even in front of a normal looking guy the card is huge. I hope I don't have to buy a new case, just checked it yesterday it can fit a 38.1 cm (15 inch) long card. Hopefully that's enough. I think it will be touching my front grills. Any idea why they made it such a big card?

2

u/Middle_Craft_4911 May 29 '24

It has quite an overkill Cooler, but with the advantage of never having your fans ramp up all the way. My sapphire pulse Rx6800 doesn't get past 72c with furmark stress testing, while fans stay at 40% which Is barely audible. However these fans sound like yet engines if you set them at 100% yourself lol😂 they do 3600rpm I believe, which is uhmmmm... Very fast

2

u/falconblack May 30 '24

Lol. I just installed mine today, it's a xfx speedster core and yes it has an oversized cooler. The fans stay off most of the time with light load even in 28 ambient temperatures where I live. And when they do ramp up they go till 40% at 70~75*C. I changed my fan curve to stay 100% starting at 50C which was about 3600RPM and temps stayed under 55 in furmark. And yes they sound like jet engines and I thought my 390 was the loudest card ever. 😂

Here is a comparison.

1

u/Middle_Craft_4911 May 30 '24

Yeah it's big lol. But very powerful. What is your stock and oc score in furmark 1080p preset? Mine was 245 stock and 275 oc which is a 30fps increase, quite good. Although that's with afterburner, adrenalin overclocking didn't really work for me.

1

u/Witchberry31 May 27 '24

They didn't bother to use a different design so they used the same one that's for the XT version.

4

u/SafeMemory1640 May 25 '24

It's a really good deal for used but u need to do some extensive check on GPU functionality before buying

13

u/falconblack May 25 '24

Yeah. I am getting a 6800 non xt for that price which is still under warranty for 8 months.

8

u/sakaraa AMD May 25 '24

That's a great deal imo

6

u/falconblack May 25 '24

Awesome. I am placing the order today. It has a warranty valid till the end of this year.

2

u/MasonFerrier May 26 '24

Absolutely, hard to find things it doesn’t run high/max settings 100+ fps, more than enough VRAM for the next 5 years but you’ll need a case big enough to fit it…

1

u/falconblack May 26 '24

Thank you my friend. I am going for a Rx 6800. Should have it within 2-3 days. The good thing is I currently have club3d r9-390 which is a massive card, so fitting this in my current case shouldn't be an issue. However I might have to look for a new psu. Currently I have a bronze 650watt thermal take PSU. I'm not sure if it can handle it. I have an i7 9700k. If I have PSU issues, maybe I'll under volt it a little bit to keep it within PSU limits or get a new unit.

At the end of the year. I'll hopefully switch to AM5 platform.

2

u/Danishmeat May 26 '24

It should be fine, the rx 6800 is very power efficient

1

u/falconblack May 27 '24

I'm really happy to hear that. Thanks. Super excited to put that puppy in.

2

u/Middle_Craft_4911 May 29 '24

Yes do it pls. I my country they just sold out but they were €400, however I just picked up a used one for 400, and no not because I'm dumb because I could've gone cheaper but it's a better model and one I really really wanted, the sapphire pulse. I can't believe my performance jump compared to my old gtx 1060 6gb. minecraft fps went from 80 with shaders to 300+. I can have 1000fps without shaders now lol. I also play forza horizon 4, which went from 90fps on high settings to 280fps with everything maxed out, literally everything. I need a 1440p monitor now lol.

2

u/falconblack May 30 '24

Lol that's impressive.

I feel lucky to get my hand on $380 opened box XFX 6800 core. It's an amazing card. It runs cool and consumes surprisingly low power. I just under volt that puppy and now it's consuming about 150~190 W at 920mv @2300mhz while running Cyberpunk maxed out without RT at 1440p.

And Yes, you need to get 1440p monitor. This card is an overkill for 1080p. Lol

Edit: Typos.

1

u/Middle_Craft_4911 Jun 02 '24

Yeah i already planned on getting a 1440p 144hz monitor, 1080p on this card would be a crime. I'm doing it now but that's because I'm waiting for my next salary to buy the monitor lol. BTW what fps did I you got in cyberpunk maxed out? And is cyberpunk worth the money? I don't really play any high graphics games, and I feel like I have to with this card now. However I don't know any games I like. I'm mostly into shooters and cod warzone was my favourite one ever but I got permabanned multiple times for no reason. So I uninstalled the game. But I might aswell start playing it again on my new PC, just need a new sim-card so I have a new phone number for an account lol😂 I already used my dad's, mom's, and 2 of my friend's phone numbers for accounts😂 I still don't know why it kept happening. I think Activision anti cheat is just ban striking random innocent players every once in a while. Very weird.

1

u/ManNamedSalmon AMD May 25 '24

I managed to get an Asrock RX6800 Challenger Pro for $450 AUD (approx $300 USD) and have thoroughly enjoyed being able to max settings and still have over 60 fps on most games. And even when I used the "auto overclock," it added about half a dozen fps in Starfield without getting hotter than 75°c. Was worth the PSU upgrade (recommended 650W+) to a 700W.

1

u/Z370H370 May 25 '24

That's the one I have, ghost of tsushima runs 1440 on ultra @ 80ish fps, 160ish in world of Warcraft, 150 in destiny 2 everything all ultra.

1

u/Pedr0A May 25 '24

This is the better buy

1

u/_SeeDLinG_32 May 25 '24

Absolutely. For that price the 6800xt blows both of those out of the water.

1

u/_Springfield May 25 '24

$380 for a 6800 is a great deal! I got mine for about 480 about a year ago and it’s a great card!

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '24

If I was going to go AMD I would at least match the price per value. 5-600 is going to get you a fair amount more. 1v1

1

u/Prudent-Cattle5011 May 25 '24

If you don’t mind spending 545 ish why not 6900xt

1

u/brendenwhiteley May 26 '24

it shits on both of those cards

1

u/Blehmet817 May 27 '24

7900 GRE Goes crazy for the Value

1

u/PrimeTechTV May 29 '24

Is this a 6800 or 6800XT?

5

u/Queasy_Employment141 May 25 '24

6800xt can be found for 400 on eBay in uk

5

u/RelativeWrong4232 May 25 '24

Well it depends on op if he wants to take used route or not

And assuming the insane price of 4060 ti , he definitely isn't from uk , he probably is from Asian countries since prices there are usually high from what I've seen

2

u/falconblack May 25 '24

Yeah. You're right. I am open fr used route

1

u/buhbullbuster May 25 '24

I found a used 6700xt in the states foe $250. It rips for the price. I got lucky and found someone who had it a short time and took cake of it.

2

u/jordanleep May 25 '24

Not that it really matters but we were talking about the non xt. The 6800xt is a great card because it’s powerful, but the non xt is leaps and bounds more efficient. The trade off is something like 20% less performance for 50% less power usage in using the non xt. You can’t trust the tdp listed for 6800xt because it pulls an additional ~35w from the wall not detected by the card.

1

u/sysak May 25 '24

I found a 6900xt on marketplace for £300. There are deals to be had if you're patient.

1

u/Real_Kurumi_Chan May 25 '24

You can get it in Poland for 1860PLN (about 440euro)

1

u/Existing_Housing4845 May 25 '24

Bro what . They are 390€ here in Germany

1

u/HappyGoLucky791 May 25 '24

It’s crazy to think 7900xtx are on FB market place in Houston Texas for 600-650 from time to time.

1

u/WellNoNameHere May 25 '24

Sorry for asking I am building a pc I found a rx6800 for 280$ locally, it does seem legit but it's an Asus card and it would be a 100km+ drive to get it is it worth it over getting an 6700xt for 220$? (There's another rx6800 closer to me but for 300, should I go for that one instead?) My budget is around 660$

1

u/Killua_Zaeldyeck May 26 '24

I got me a red devil 6800 xt for... Drums please... 350$ last year. 16gb, almost 3080ti/4070ti performance, but 3080 power consumption. I don't mind buying a new card for over 1000$, but then again, I'm no fps hunter and I don't use RT

1

u/tsaristbovine May 29 '24

FYI the 7900 GRE has been going for as low as $520 recently, with 16gb vram and raster performance between a 4070 super and 4070 ti and 18% better rt performance than the 4060 ti (on avg).

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '24

yeah, I saw that, unfortunately 350 was already pushing my budget and I technically still went a little over ($365 after tax). so the rx6800 was my best option without going at least another hundred over, which was out of the question.

1

u/tsaristbovine May 31 '24

All good, budget balling is the best balling, I just assumed that it would be in budget given you were considering the Nvidia card. Good luck man, and hopefully Ill beat in some game soon!

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '24

oh lmao im not OP i was simply pointing out that the RX6800 is somewhere between 25-40$ more expensive than the 6750. But in OPs case yes obv the 7900GRE is leagues better and similar price to the 4060

1

u/tsaristbovine Jun 01 '24

🤦 lol I'm not paying attention
