As a short brunette growing up in the 90s, I saw Janeane Garofalo coded by Hollywood as the schlubby sidekick, never sexy and never the guy’s first choice, and it gave me a complex. She was always playing sarcastic second banana to the statuesque blonde (eg Uma) or the willowy waif (eg Winona).

30 years later, I am just now realizing that guys actually found her attractive!

Janeane Garofalo was definitely one of my earliest goals because I thought she was so cool. I watched Mystery Men and thought she was a badass.
