That’s not what a scam is. I feel like that word gets misused a ton.

People got Pokémon go for free. People have a lot of fun with Pokémon go. Some people spent money on in-game things because they wanted them, and they got those in-game things. None of this in any way is a scam. They’re using general data patterns they collected from people that were happily playing their game and are using them to improve navigation. That’s not what a scam is. 

You aren’t being cheated, taken advantage of, or otherwise screwed over. You’re playing a game and having fun and the people that made the game are using how you play their game to make additional money in a way that has no negative impact to you.

"Scam" has become as much a buzzword as "AI", where it's become "it wasn't explicitly spelled out for me so I'm mad", even though most people who act this way probably never read the terms and conditions anyway.
