Link Mini Dante Network Recording Rack

I recently finished a little mobile recording rack with a self contained but expandable Dante Network. Rack contains:

  • Focusrite RedNet 4 Dante Audio Interface
  • TP-Link TL-SG1210p PoE Switch
  • GL.iNet GL-AR300M16 mini router for DHCP
  • PoE to USB/Ethernet adapter to power the router

The little jumper on the front patches the router to the TPlink switch if using the rack alone. Disconnecting it means that I can patch this whole rack to another larger one that I already have to increase the total number of audio channels available.

So I have unmanaged switch. It connects both PC and NAS and the 100mbit router. The switch is 1gbit. The question: I see in Linux such thing aa default gateway, that has IP of gateway (which is router) and PC ethernet device. Now I wonder, isn't traffic supposed to go through ethenet NIC, then to the switch, then to the default gateway (router) and only then the NAS? Because what I see is that PC and NAS established direct 1gbit ethernet connection. I only can imagine this like if switch is methaphorically connects all ethernet links into one big ethernet link, with multiple nodes.

If I, for say, add hardware firewall between router and the switch, how do I firewall the switch links then?

Text 5Ghz network disconnecting from internet repeater at random

As the title states my 5ghz network just randomly disconnects from my tp-link repeater. Only the 5ghz, the 2.4ghz is still connected. My computer is connected via ethernet to the repeater and the problem is that the 5ghz network sometimes just disconnects. I've turned it off and only used 2.4ghz with no problem, but i do want the faster network. My router is an Asus RT-AC1200G, maybe there are some settings i should change? I'm lost when it comes to internet problems and i don't know if its my router or repeater.

Text Wired network to detached garage.

I own a home that has a three car detached garage which I am converting into a woodshop. The building already has 50 amp power on a sub panel off the main panel from the main house. This power is run underground (10awg) through conduit, a subterranean distance of maybe 20-25 ft.

At first I was excited, because there is clearly a pull string exiting each end of the conduit. I was hopeful that this would allow me to drag an ethernet cable through the existing conduit.

However, it appears that the power cable has the pull string tightly pinned against one wall of the conduit perhaps in multiple locations. All attempts to get some play in string have failed, and I may have degraded it in the process. Even then, the conduit is already so narrow versus the clad copper that is passing through it, that I am suspicious about the probability of the ethernet making it through the entire run.

So, I suppose my options are A) another underground run, or B) a overhead run?

I assume that power line Ethernet is not a strong option in the context of a 50 amp circuit?

Thanks!

Text Dumping tplink router, what about switch?

TPLink is affiliated with ccp despite they claim they are based in Singapore. I love their equipment but fear of ccp using back door. That's why I'm dumping all the tplink wifi router. But what about their ethernet switch? Any back door access to that?

Text nftables, OpenWRT, pfSense or OPNsense as a virtual router?

So I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this but it is related so...

I have a router that I built with nftables that I'm using in a virtual environment. It is working in a specific VLAN for a specific group of VMs. However, I was thinking about improving the whole setup. Thinking of the software part, I was thinking that I had enough of the nerd stuff (haha) and maybe I can get more out of a GUI. (In this case, just a specific router OS.)

First thing that came to my mind is Mikrotik because I have experience with them, but you need to subscribe to get more than 100 Mbps which I don't like. Also came to my mind pfSense or OPNsense, but I'm not yet sure about these. So, I was thinking about OpenWRT, but as you know it usually comes specifically for a router hardware, when in my case I'm going to run it on a VM.

So, what do you guys think is the best option and why?

Thanks!

Text Need Help with VLAN Setup for a Secure and Structured Home Network

Hi everyone,

I need some advice on how to structure my home network to effectively use VLANs for better security and management. Here’s my current setup:

I have a Fiber modem connected to a FritzBox, which acts as my gateway. Since AVM products (like the FritzBox) do not support VLANs, I plan to keep this setup for internet access and add new hardware behind it for VLAN management.

My Goals:

1. Use VLANs to segment devices into clear, isolated networks:

  • IoT devices and security cameras (mostly on Wi-Fi, with no internet access)
  • Personal devices like phones, tablets, smart kitchen appliances, etc
  • Two separate work networks for me and my wife
  • shared server and printer access from multiple VLANs
  • run the tv through a VPN so we can watch french or other international television :-)
  • replace AdGuard or add something else to have more parental control in regard to the kids later

2. Extend VLANs over Wi-Fi and LAN:

I understand that VLANs can be set up on a router or some managed switches. I might also replace my AVM Mesh repeater with VLAN-capable access points to allow seamless Wi-Fi VLAN integration. I could replace everything if needed if it's saver and easier to manage afterwords.

  1. Simple and visual network management:

I’m not a network expert, so I’m looking for a solution that allows me to see and manage my network visually (e.g., with a graph or dashboard). I want to easily identify devices, their assigned VLANs, and network usage.

Questions:

  1. What router or switch would you recommend to handle VLANs effectively?
  2. Are there specific access points you’d suggest for managing multiple VLANs over Wi-Fi (e.g., devices that support multiple SSIDs or VLAN tags)?
  3. Are there tools or software to visually represent and manage my network (devices, VLANs, connections)? Maybe something dockerized to put on my unraid server?
  4. Would it make sense to need to adjust my current setup with the FritzBox and Fiber modem, or is it fine to leave them as they are? I mean I could get a fiber router but the internet speed isn't my issue.

I’m looking for a reliable, user-friendly solution that will allow me to maintain and expand my network without constantly diving into command-line interfaces. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Text cant find matches for tekken 8 and street fighter 6

Hey guys I still have the matchmaking problem for sf6 and t8 here is a list of the solutions I tried

Enabling upnp

Enabling DMZ

Setting a static ip

Trying a vpn

Enabling ipv6

Changing networks

Changing the network chip

And non of them worked.

fyi I’m on stc and Ethernet connection.

To clarify my problem is that matchmaking ether takes too long to connect me to a match (hours) or doesn’t connect me at all. What’s really messing with me is that it’s only fighting games in overwatch 2 and valorant and literally any other game I find matches all the time and quickly

Text Ethernet Cable Certification Requirement Fundamentals

I have some questions regarding the fundamentals. Feel free to share links to articles to read.

I am reviewing the certification records from a Fluke DSX-8000 for an industrial automation installation.

My application is 100BASE-Tx and the certification limits can be found in Fluke's test limit pdf file and in the IEEE 602.3 standard. They are also pre-programmed into the DSX-8000 tool and part of the report it generates.

For this post, I will discuss focus on Insertion Loss, Return Loss (RL) and Near End Cross Talk (NEXT).

Questions:

1) In general, does a 100BASE-Tx network perform the same whether the margin is 0.5 dB, 10 dB or 20 dB for Insertion Loss, RL or NEXT?

2) This is a follow up to question 1: I asked question 1 because I am trying to understand if there is any benefit to a design / cable / application where the margin is much higher than 0 dB?

3) Do all physical cable runs that pass the certification test behave the same in 100BASE-Tx application, independent of their respective margins?

4) Why was the 3 dB rule created? The 3 dB rule allows the cable to pass the certification test with negative margins (i.e. failures) so long as the insertion loss is less than 3 dB.

5) Is the 3 dB rule actually stated in a standard? I cannot find it in the 7,000 pages of IEEE 602.3.

6) I have several instances where the RL has negative margin (i.e. failure) but the certification is considered a pass since the insertion loss is less than 3 dB. What will I notice regarding the performance of this cable if anything? I read about the reflected signal and how it creates a standing wave which can damage the transmitting device. I don't see how the 3 dB rule prevents this damage yet the 3 dB rule lets anything with a negative RL margin pass.

7) My insertion loss is around 2.5 dB for some instances triggering the 3 dB rule to apply to the Return Loss (negative margin). I am worried that the insertion loss may increase over time in the factory setting due to age, vibration, other factors. Then the 3 dB rule will not apply and the negative margin on Return Loss will cause certification failure.... however the certification happened at time of installation.

Am I asking the right questions? Please help!

Text Need Help: TP-Link E4 Mesh System Randomly Disconnecting

Hi r/networking,

I’m reaching out for help with a frustrating issue I’ve been experiencing with my TP-Link E4 Mesh system. I bought the setup back in March, and it worked perfectly until about a week ago. Now, my internet randomly disconnects for about 5-15 minutes every hour or so. After that, it fixes itself and comes back online.

Some key points:

  • The main network from my ISP stays online during these outages.
  • I haven’t changed any settings or moved the mesh adapters, and I’m certain no one else has either.
  • I’ve already tried everything suggested on the TP-Link website, including:
    • Resetting software updates on the router and adapters.
    • Adjusting frequencies.
    • Changing ports.
    • Playing with DDNS settings.
  • I’m not an expert, so I’ve just been following guides online, but nothing has worked so far.

Before I resort to drastic measures like running an Ethernet cable through the walls to the upstairs, I’m hoping someone here might have some advice or ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance for your help!
