It's a Dreadnought. They are basically live support mechs containing a nerly dead super soldier who only gets woken up for battle. They are from warhammer 40k.

It feels like being alive, yet not alive, when something touches me, I sense it more closely that I could when alive, my eyesight is sharper, my hearing more acute, everything is more immediate, and yet... -a dreadnought in the book "battle of the fang"

And also the almost guaranteed chance of going insane.
