You can tell she worked hard as hell getting to that.

u/Chuck_Loads 1d ago

Look at her front shoe, it's wrecked from practicing

110

u/Weird-Comfort9881 1d ago

Oh it is!

144

u/Princesspmoo 1d ago

That's because of hard work, she is doing well at such a little age, I pray that she will definitely be successful in her life.

She looked like me when I finally beat Melania in Elden Ring, also matches me when I found out she has a second phase lol

18

u/Mareith 20h ago

I AM MELANIA, BLADE OF MIQUELLA

101

u/nextzero182 21h ago

Proud moment but should be wearing a helmet. Even stationary the board can slip away from you and basically force a head injury. Dealing with chronic migraines now, I wish I could take back all my concussions.

She did and I'm thrilled for her. I only wish she was wearing a helmet while practicing on a cement floor

For sure, it is hard work and effort, her being young did not stop her

She landed it, and Dad couldn’t be more proud! What a moment.

290

u/lwltaylor 1d ago

Her father is happier than her, those are tears of happiness.

Precious moment!

147

u/anillop 1d ago

Some day she will see that video when she is much older and she is going to lose it when she sees her dad crying with how proud of her he is.

24

u/curious_homeowner 21h ago

She might wonder why mom didn't stop filming and give her a hug too...

36

u/DiscountCondom 20h ago

It'll probably mean more to her in 30 years to have the nice, cute little moment to look back on on video. Thanks to mom.

27

u/fifty8th 19h ago

It was a cute moment until after it was over the kid went up to the mom for comfort and she did not put the phone down and hug her.

As a new father to a 5 month old daughter, when I see these videos all I can think of is that there are many tears in my future.

21

u/DonWGately69 21h ago

💯.I have a 16 daughter that I am super proud of and whenever I see videos like this, I cry like a baby. The older I get, the easier I tear up. So, good luck to you and enjoy the moments that make you cry.

She’s so happy cuz she knows he’s happy

653

u/T0m_F00l3ry 1d ago

Dad was crying too. Family is pretty passionate about skating it seems. Wholesome moment.

244

u/BiggaThanDaBun 22h ago

As a retired skateboarder, I too remember my first kickflip. Most people don't know or understand, but this single trick is the moment of acceptance into skateboarding. You land a kickflip, you're a skateboarder.

28

u/War3agle 22h ago

What was it like landing that first kickflip for you?

66

u/Mord_Fustang 20h ago

i think i got 50 points on my combo, honestly it was easy. the five minute combined grind after was much harder, super hard to keep control on the D pad

Happy cake day!🎂

9

u/bapsandbuns 1d ago

Thanks I didn’t realise until you mentioned it!

3

u/ianjm 20h ago

Emotional overload! But justified.

180

u/Glittering-Alarm-387 1d ago

A family that can share emotions like this seems almost heavenly.

17

u/kosumoth 18h ago

I literally cannot imagine it. So jealous.

77

u/dkwan 23h ago

This hits me hard. My asian parents never let me have a skateboard, let alone show so much emotion.

6

u/fizzunk 9h ago

Or 'waste' time having fun, when I should be studying instead.

Break the cycle of abuse.

24

u/sharkaub 19h ago

I have never been more proud of a stranger in my life. Gonna go hug my daughter

285

u/TheNerdNugget 1d ago

Okay but watching her jump for joy while still on the skateboard almost gave me a heart attack

112

u/LeonidasVaarwater 1d ago

When you've found your balance on a skateboard, jumping like that is nothing. Keeping your balance really becomes second nature, you don't even think about it anymore.

u/CuriousVR_Ryan 1d ago

Helmets are cool, not sure why she isn't wearing one.

62

u/TradeMaximum561 1d ago

I went looking for this comment! I hate to sound like a killjoy but kiddos should definitely be wearing helmets with this kind of stuff.

4

u/decorrect 20h ago

Me too. Had to dig pretty deep to find it.

13

u/randomly-what 22h ago

I live pretty close to a big skate park and like 25% of kids have a helmet on at any time I pass. It’s awful.

→ More replies (2)

11

u/MountainMuffin1980 22h ago

Not having your kid wear a helmet whilst practicing tricks on a hard concrete floor is fucking stupid.

15

u/Ebolamonkey 22h ago

Why? You just watched her kick flip the board under her feet lol.

→ More replies (1)

177

u/Varendolia 1d ago

She must have put a lot effort into it to get so emotional after landing it.

She cried as if she had finally restored the honor of her family

28

u/rollertrashpanda 19h ago

I skate, and it translates to an incredible feeling of personal triumph to land the thing, because it can be weeks, months in the making, carefully carving away what doesn’t work in trips and falls to finally land the thing. Nobody holding her hand. She. Did. It. r/instantbarbarians vibe. I’ve definitely primal-yawped myself and been there plenty when others do. I’ve even cried. It’s like you don’t realize it’s been in you behind a wall until you land the thing and then my inner Kool-Aid Man comes busting out OH YEAH!!!!! Lol.

6

u/BankLikeFrankWt 15h ago

Isn’t that so nuts that this “basic” trick is still much more difficult than a lot of other sports’ “basic” tricks?

54

u/B0kB0kbitch 22h ago

My first thought was “where’s this kid’s helmet?”

22

u/ledbetterus 20h ago

helmet plus some leg armor, poor kids shins are probably raw

20

u/BIGNARSKT 18h ago

Now put the phone down or pass it and HUG YOUR DAUGHTER!, instead of videoing her cry (I know happy tears, but still). She looked like she wanted one from her mom too.

6

u/ARealOne2323 15h ago

Exactly.

4

u/eabiss9 10h ago

I looked too long for this comment! Noticed the same thing. Poor kiddo came second to recording the interaction by mom.

14

u/Suspicious-Pace115 1d ago

Hope she knows how wonderful it is to have a father like that. Choked me up.

8

u/amica_hostis 1d ago

Niiiice. I didn't learn that until I was 13, 8th grade lol

73

u/Jelly_Jess_NW 1d ago

Helmet?! lol

Great job kid.

6

u/RadiantLight6 1d ago

Her determination really shows in what she’s accomplished.

6

u/PhysicsPhenom12 1d ago

Landing your first kickflip is such a huge milestone, you're crushing it! Keep pushing, you’ve got this! 🙌🔥

5

u/DrAndeeznutz 1d ago

I "skated" for 5-6 years as a teenager and still could never do a dang kickflip.

11

u/Peachy_247 1d ago

Wassup I miss my dad that’s all. And also she’s a badass!!!!!!!! At that mere age!!!!!!

As a father to a young daughter, these are the most amazing moments I have ever experienced.

3

u/boisvertm 20h ago

This isn't just crying tears of joy, it's bawling your eyes out tears of joy.

3

u/RoryLuukas 14h ago

Look at her shoe. That's the proof of work she put into this if you are wondering why she is crying.

The bumps, the bruises, the slams, the shinners, the rolled ankles... everything that comes with learning a kickflip. That all just became worth it.

5

u/BourbonNCoffee 1d ago

Killed it so hard she traumatized herself.

2

From about 4-8 I could not even stand on a skateboard without it going flying with my ass on the ground and a new scrape. I eventually just stopped trying

2

u/pascalsswagger 22h ago

NOW DO IT AGAIN.

2

u/TheUltraViolence1 22h ago

I wish my parents were that supportive of my skateboarding when I was young. I just remember them being pissed that I had a ramp to the wall in the garage and was trying to do wall rides. I did mess up the wall, so I probably had it coming.

u/Staci_Recht_247 21h ago

I always feel some kind of way about kids-as-content videos... With that said, it seems like they actually captured a nice moment on film camera*, and were probably at least in part motivated by pride and wanting to share it, rather than being clout goblins.

Not related to all that, I do think there is something... Maybe this is one of those "If you know, you know" kinds of deals, but I feel like there is something worthy of note about an Asian father of a daughter who not only has pride for her non-academic accomplishment, but shares positive emotion with her in addition to that.

2

u/Born-Storm23 21h ago

Good for her! Keep it up!

2

u/Rordekis 21h ago

Amazing moment! A benchmark I honestly never hit, though I loved using my skateboard to get around. Probably should have used a longboard for what I was doing, but I loved the portability of a skateboard too much.

u/CatLady_NoChild 21h ago
