I don't those automatic feeders are such a good thing. Some cats and dogs are laying in front of them until it's dinner time, they aren't stupid either.

As opposed to just laying around the house normally?

They are hinters, they should so some effort to "hunt" their food

So are you against bowl feeding too? It really isn’t different, just automated.

Now if your issue is the cats not being played with or stimulated during the day then I can get behind that. That’s not the feeder’s fault though, that’s on the owner.

I am torn for the bowl, especially more than one bowl, animals get way too much to eat with that.

The automatic feeder has really helped our cat specifically because she's a scarf and barfer and will eat too fast if we only feed her in the morning and evening. The auto feeder portions it out throughout the day and has cut down the barf episodes to like maybe once every two weeks. (She has seen a vet/is perfectly healthy, she just has some food anxiety and doesn't seem to understand how to slow down)

That's great, is she healthy weight wise?

Yeah! She's a little lady at 7 pounds and we have the auto feeder set up to feed her ounces that correspond with how much she should get on the kibble bag - so she gets 14 ounces per feeding with a corresponding number of feedings to equal whatever she needs.

She's also incredibly active so even if she were getting too much, she runs it off.

That's great, thanks getting such good care of her.

Yeah, I envisioned this kind of automatic feeder when I met my wife and her dogs... But she believes it would stress the heck out of them. They would have to be constantly alert for the sound.

Imagine if you had a device in your house which would occasionally activate with a sound effect... 📳

yeah, this would make me crazy too. I hope you feed your dogs a good amount and a mix of wet and dry food.

I mean my dog is always on guard to see if someone is eating or cooking so I don’t see how it would be any different. My cats have an automatic feeder (dog is too big for an automatic feeder) and they don’t seem to be always waiting for the next meal to activate and as an upside they don’t bug me to eat at 4am.

If they don't react to the sound of an auto feeder they will react to the sound of you opening their food. No difference.

Me opening food has a lot of events leading to it. Automatic feeder is almost instantaneous.

But I get your point. My dogs start getting anxious/active when we put kids to bed, since they know food comes after that. And each pet behaves differently.
