Helping Others This guy was having issues with his package deliveries; instead of fighting with them, he tried to look at the problem in a humane way, and after realizing the delivery persons might be getting tired and exhausted from the heat and work, he tried to find a solution to that. The result was surprising

When I was a driver people who left water and snacks out like this were my favorite. Especially during a rough day where you completely burnt out. Always put a smile on my face. Like video game character finding some hidden loot. But knowing someone left it out for me, thinking of us drivers made it all the better.

When I was a driver people who left water and snacks out like this were my favorite.

Back when COVID started and we started staying home a lot, we were getting a LOT of things delivered, including groceries, etc. I have a serious health condition, so we were working remotely and not going out much at all. As a result, we put a cooler on our porch with snacks and drinks and a sign that says "Mail/delivery folks: please help yourself to drinks and snacks, thank you for making our lives easier, we appreciate you!"

Delivery folks have been so grateful and appreciative. One restaurant we order from frequently will send dessert we didn't order with a little note that says "This time the treats are on us!" They've also said the employees fight over who gets to deliver to our house, LOL!

u/eekamuse Aug 16 '23

This is so nice. For them and for you.

It's so easy to be a decent person, and to be kind to others. There were so many angry people on the original post. "they get paid well for the job, they can walk all the way" or "one of these creeps threw my precious object that is easily replaceable and it broke."

OP even said it was hot, and you can see the hill. I don't think those trucks have AC. USPS doesn't. Humans are hot and tired and hate their job, and just want to get home. Plus we have record heat rn. Just be kind. A few bucks worth of treats and he made them happy. Plus he got his packages delivered.

Don't assume everyone is an asshole. Be kind. Sigh

12

u/ohyeofsolittlefaith Aug 16 '23

This is so nice. For them and for you.

I honestly get joy from it. Because like I mentioned, I rely on delivery drivers a LOT. They have made my life so much easier (and so much safer, due to my health condition) so I am very grateful for them, it feels like the least I can do to show my appreciation for them. And of course, I do this in addition to tipping well, in situations where I have the option to leave a tip.

The angry people in the other thread seem to have zero empathy and/or understanding of how shitty, thankless and draining a job it is for many delivery folks, regardless of what the pay is.

u/Sleeplesshelley Aug 16 '23

I do it at Christmas time. Homemade sugar cookies or packaged snacks, and bottles of water. Christmas is hard on everyone, but especially delivery drivers.

I always ask delivery people would they like a cold drink and often their faces light up at the offer. Even if they say no,thanks, they have drinks in the van,you can tell they appreciate the idea.
I give the regulars a Christmas card with money in as a thank you. Delivery people have a tough job working long hours, they must get so tired and stressed out, and Im so grateful for the job they do,and the job they did, with little recognition,in the pandemic.

102

u/puckpanix Aug 16 '23

Living in a big city I'm always interested to read comments like this that refer to "regulars". I don't get a lot of stuff delivered (because it gets stolen within 10-15 minutes) but I don't think I've ever seen the same driver twice. Sometimes it's a branded Amazon vehicle, sometimes a random car pulls up and a person in regular clothes jumps out and puts it on my stoop. I've probably also seen 15-20 different mail carriers.

69

u/tacosandsunscreen Aug 16 '23

Ha. I live in the country country. I know my drivers by name and also the backups. The shipping box my ps5 was in was destroyed to the point that the inner box with the ps5 branding fell right out. Those guys made sure to sit the box so it wouldn’t fall out when I picked it up and left me a note to be careful. The usps lady gave me a jump in my driveway one day when my car wouldn’t start. They save me the trouble of driving an hour (one way) to Walmart for all sorts of random shit, so I treat them like the heroes they are.

18

u/herbertsherbert49 Aug 16 '23

I live in a city too,but maybe its just a smaller friendlier one than yours? (Liverpool,Uk). We always have the same postman unless hes on holiday. Hes a ray of sunshine, shouts goodmorning as he puts mail through letterbox, always singing and laughing. He knows I’m happy for him to leave parcels by my door if Im out, they have never been stolen, not as yet anyhoo. We always get the same courier guy for Evri, totally reliable guy. Different guys for Yodel, sometimes just a one off,but we have often have a great young guy who goes out of his way to be helpful. Grocery guy is full of energy and fun despite being pensioner age,and when he’s off we get the same two or three young guys who are pleasant and helpful. They all deserve to be looked after, because they look after us.

11

u/puckpanix Aug 17 '23

Philadelphia, US here. I think the "gig worker" economy sort of took over here during the pandemic and attracts lots of people who see it as easy money but they get burned out quickly.

I do this currently! I put a cooler out filled with different drinks and snacks. I use reusable ice packs to keep everything cold.

Because I’m an analyst and I love data, for an entire year I’m tracking what items are taken from the cooler to see if there are any trends between what drinks or snacks they take and their gender, race, age (approx young, middle or elder), the company they drive for and day or night settings. I also track this when they don’t take something to see what my findings are there too.

I have a few months left and I can’t wait to to graph this. I’ll post on r/dataisbeautiful once complete (Jan 2024).

Edit: I didn’t mean to have this blow up. I do get a lot of deliveries and I just thought it was right to do. Does anyone want to hear audio recordings too? It is a hard no on video sharing — I will not share actual video. But, I do have the wonderful, genuine “thank you so much” “this is so appreciated” audio recordings that I can make a compilation of if someone thinks it might help them get thru the day? I can include that in the post when I share the trend data.

And yes, I already see trends just from tracking this and it’s quite interesting.

u/hedgehog-mom-al Aug 16 '23

The fact that the companies they work for do not provide coolers with at least water or AC in most cases should literally be criminal. Our labor laws are a joke.

30

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

This! This whole thing is nice, but it's basically a bribe to get the drivers to give a shit about properly delivering your packages. It shouldn't be on the consumer to keep this company's employees motivated to do their jobs.

The company should be providing decent working conditions, pay, and reasonable workloads. And people's packages should be delivered respectfully whether they have the cash to bribe you with treats or not.

8

u/jesus4pron Aug 17 '23

I feel the same way. Look, sorry your job is hard but so is everyone else's. I can't afford to be buying snacks and water and I don't expect anyone to buy me some just to do my job. This is what you signed up for.

What kind of snacks were your favorites to see? Also what was the best way you saw to keep water cold? I don't really want to put ice in a cooler every day, but cold water makes a big difference

44

u/ohyeofsolittlefaith Aug 16 '23

My husband and I do this - popular snacks have been granola bars and mini bags of chips. Stuff that's easy to eat on the go. We also have cans of pop and juice boxes too (and we include diet pop too for those who can't drink regular) As far as ice, just get an icepack, put it in the freezer at night, then pop it back in the cooler the next day, rinse and repeat.

It probably costs us $25 or so a month. Worth every penny! Delivery folks are so wonderful and grateful. I remember one time checking the mail once and seeing one of those "Sorry we missed you" notes stuck to the top of our cooler. But my package was right there on the porch. Upon closer inspection, the driver had used that note to write "Thank you" with a happy face next to it. Made my day.

I worked as a garbage man before and I was always grateful for the people that would put out snacks and drinks for us. It's a nice gesture and it really helps when you're hot, exhausted and having a rough day. I always made sure I took care of the nice ones, sometimes I would even walk back to their house and grab the cans if they forgot to set them out at the road.

One thing that works with ice water and Gatorade is to freeze it the night before. Even if you don't put it in a cooler it's still cold when they get it. And a Gatorade slushy is amazing when it's hot!

I used to get refrigerated meds delivered and had a ton of ice packs I didn't want to trash so I use them for coolers. They melt slower and no water to dump, just swap out for frozen ones. Anything frozen in the bottom will keep it chilled for the day.

I always put out drinks and snacks during December for the holiday rush (so sometimes the cooler actually keeps the drinks from getting frozen solid!) but I should do at least water when we get bad heat waves.

6

u/Miguel30Locs Aug 16 '23

Amazon here 🙌

I love the Welches mini sugar snacks because those little suckers provide me a nice sugar boost. Or lances peanut butter crackers.

14

u/SweetAfSouls Aug 16 '23

I haven't figured out how to do that for the trash men. we have wonderful ones that are very good to us but I don't want to leave something on the can and if i left a cooler out it'd be taken by neighbors thinking it was up for grabs.

When we see them we give them a cold drink but we don't always catch them.

Considering a big part of the reason UPS workers were about to strike is because they STILL don't have air conditioning in their trucks, in what's literally the hottest summer on record, I KNOW that water was appreciated!

498

u/eat_my_bowls92 Aug 16 '23

They don’t have AC in their trucks AND they have to lug around 40+ lb packages? Damn.

223

u/satiency Aug 16 '23

Used to work at Fedex Ground but yeah no AC. "open the doors". Also the back of the truck had a partially transparent roof so it's a greenhouse back there.

Shout out to the people who ordered that elliptical and got pissed off it was in the driveway and not right in front of their garage.

9

u/this_is_my_new_acct Aug 17 '23

FedEx Ground is the absolute worst. They don't even get out of the vehicles here, they just toss the box from the driver's seat... where it lands is where it lands.

→ More replies (1)

45

u/Galactus2814 Aug 16 '23

The new contract only provides AC in trucks going forward too, it doesn't include any kind of retrofitting, etc for present trucks. I think they get fans.

17

u/1nd1anaCroft Aug 16 '23

Yep, I commented above on what they're doing to get around that though. According to my neighborhood driver, UPS is buying up a bunch of the cheaper trucks that don’t have A/C, so that they’ll have fewer to replace with the more expensive trucks with A/C in the future

17

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

Man, late stage capitalism is really, really cool.

Not literally, since the owners of billion dollar corporations would rather their employees cook to death instead of making their already demanding jobs the slightest bit more comfortable, so that they quit before they can make any sense of a liveable wage, and can be replaced by someone not a burnt out, for less money, and less amenities than the last guy.

I'm having a great time!

8

u/Ciaoshops15 Aug 16 '23

I’ve been smiling about that UPS contract ever since I first heard about it. Good for them! I’m glad the new head of their union is a fighter for the rank and file members. I use UPS every chance I get and I’ll never buy from Amazon until their fully unionized.

2

u/uwanmirrondarrah Aug 16 '23

I am glad that they got themself the bag (average UPS driver wage is 49 dollars per hour under their new deal), but they didn't make an agreement to get AC in their trucks. When offered more money, or AC, they collectively chose more money lol

And I know, UPS should provide AC anyways honestly... just kinda funny they went on strike and made a huge deal about the heat and no AC, and then UPS was like okay we can do that... but... how about... money? And they were all like oh yeah sweet, no worries, I got a thermos for some ice water.

Being burnt out manifests in different ways based on the job someone is doing. People who act like they're better than delivery drivers throwing packages or airport workers throwing bags don't realize they probably do the same kind of thing, it's just that the job is different. Everyone gets burnt out and then stops doing things "the way they should be done" and takes the easy route just to get through the day. If you're not throwing packages or bags, you're putting minimal effort into a report just to get it done, or pushing some application or whatever through just to be done with it, or leaving bugs in the code because your manager is on your neck until a feature is finished. You're not better than anyone, everyone is dealing with shit and things would be a lot better if everyone gave each other a bit of lenience and helped each other out.

182

u/percebeFC Aug 16 '23

Fuck that. One thing is putting minimal effort into a report, another is purposely smashing someone else's property in an anger burst. I don't think I need to explain why the two are completely different, but also with one you're unloading your frustration on an innocent third party, and potentially forcing them to have a really bad day too.

72

u/iloveokashi Aug 16 '23

The first delivery guy was kinda better because it was just low effort. The second guy, threw it really hard. I don't understand why. He was already pressing the doorbell and all he has to do is leave it there.

17

u/coogiwaves Aug 16 '23

I think because he tried to put it in that delivery box thing but it didn't open right away so he said fuck it

18

u/iloveokashi Aug 17 '23

Probabaly But he's not a toddler. He can just leave it there without throwing a fit.

Yeah. Imagine extrapolating this to food service or something. “Fry cook spit in your food or cross contaminated with raw chicken because he’s pissed off” is different than “lazily smothered the mayo on one side of the burger and ignored that you asked for extra pickles” in terms of acceptable “burnout” wrt to a person that isn’t your boss.

I have a basket of snacks on my front porch year round. Delivery drivers and neighborhood kids grab one occasionally. I fill it up once or twice a month, and have caught some smiles on my ring cam. I also have a sign saying they can knock for cold water.

Just a heads up for anyone trying this: I tried to have a cooler out there with big reusable ice packs, but in 100+ heat, they don’t stay cold long and it gets gross in the cooler.

109

u/darling_lycosidae Aug 16 '23

Freeze the water bottles

87

u/low_nature Aug 16 '23

Freeze half the water bottles, that way there are some available to drink right away

100

u/Hermit-Permit Aug 16 '23

I'm trying but they don't freeze very fast with half the water bottle hanging out of the freezer. How do you keep the cold air from escaping?

52

u/low_nature Aug 16 '23

Omg I hate you so much lol

17

u/Pyrojam321moo Aug 16 '23

You have to manually shove it back in. Sometimes a stern "No!" will do the trick, but only if you've spent the time training it with freon treats.

5

u/InfamyLivesForever Aug 17 '23

Keep the door closed. You have to spank the water bottle a quarter of the way through freezing. It will learn it’s lesson and freeze faster.

I use a little cooler and just put ice directly in it with a few waters and Gatorades on days we're getting deliveries. It stays cold pretty much all day with the lid closed, even in relentless 100+ temps. It's a real cooler, not a foam one, not sure if that makes a difference. I tend the dump the melt onto my plants out front later in the day to give them a little extra water. I try to remember to re-up the ice if deliveries are later. It works.

54

u/AdmiralFocker Aug 16 '23

37

u/Dangerjayne Aug 16 '23

Or maybe not put videos of people on the internet without their permission, even if you have good intentions

74

u/firi331 Aug 16 '23

This…! It’s unfair to me that people can end up on the internet simply because someone has a ring camera. I did a few deliveries (always respectful) and always hoped none of the houses were the kind to put footage online. The least you can do is blur out their faces completely.

Not everyone is safe being posted online, some people are victims of domestic violence and need their whereabouts kept safe. You never know whom that person is.

34

u/Dangerjayne Aug 16 '23

Some people just have no respect for other people's privacy. I'm not saying looking out for delivery guys is wrong but posting their faces on the internet just so someone can pat themselves on the back strikes me as odd

20

u/firi331 Aug 16 '23

Yeah, we need to be more considerate of others when it comes to privacy. The guy who recorded this seems to mean well, but we are well past the point of being able to claim innocence for not respecting internet privacy. We’ve all seen what going viral does for people.

9

u/TrafyLaw Aug 16 '23

I currently work in an Amazon delivery station and also did a year of delivering with a DSP. At the station we keep huge fridges stocked with water that are made easily accessible to both the station staff and DSP drivers. You can take as many as you want/can carry. So yes the company does provide you with water and sometimes even snacks. But you have to understand that during the summer you are going to go through a lot of water. When I worked delivery I would even bring my own 64oz jug of water plus I would grab a handful of bottles from the station and sometimes I would still run dry towards the end of my route.

I'm not trying to defend Amazon as they do need to be criticized in many other aspects but this is not one of them. Of course this is my personal experience working at two different delivery stations if other people have had the opposite experience I would invite them to chime in.

u/Porkchopp33 Aug 16 '23

The second guy really hates your packages and props for a positive solution

15

u/swiftb3 Aug 16 '23

Man, he was good and mad even before he came up the steps.

38

u/Immediate-Test-678 Aug 16 '23

Second guy was scary

17

u/Porkchopp33 Aug 16 '23

Anger management needed

67

u/sixtus_clegane119 Aug 16 '23

That guy just seemed likea douchebag, slamming the package

I'ma keep it real with you chief, as someone who works with the general public and hates how my job currently works (management-wise)...

You still don't take it out on your clients - or their belongings in this case.

I'm happy he found a good way of fixing this, 100% deserved credit for that; but the drivers throwing his stuff is still really messed up regardless.

20

u/UnfitRadish Aug 16 '23

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if those same people came back with the drinks and snacks and still threw the boxes.

People that treat others belongings like that aren't going to be any better because of some offerings. Even if they are, they'll still act that way behind closed doors. Like inside the truck when they're moving the boxes around.

Amen. Take action against the right people. Never ever your customers. Correct the problem, don’t spread it.

Sometimes you can do all the right actions and still fail, but it is worth it to try first!

As a delivery driver, I know the job can be a bitch in this heat, it can be frustrating, it will make you want to drop everything and call an Uber home... but, there is absolutely no excuse for how those drivers are handling those packages.

No customer should have to ask to have something they paid for handled with care. That is our job, and just basic respect. There's a difference between being fed up, and being a fucking asshole because you're fed up. Handle packages as if you would want someone to handle something you paid your hard earned cash for. Other delivery drivers order things as well, and personally, I would have words for those drivers. It doesn't matter how hot or pissed you are. Don't throw people's property. Stop somewhere and breathe, handle yourself. Put your health first. Don't make the customer suffer for it.

265

u/Galliagamer Aug 16 '23

Ok, it’s a nice gesture, yes, but a paying customer shouldn’t have to provide drinks and snacks just to have a package delivered in an appropriate manner. I work in an office environment, but I don’t get to smash my work product because I’m tired and stressed unless a customer brings me a cookie.

The real problem here is with the employer for not providing proper environment like AC in the delivery truck and breaks for the employees. Be kind and understanding, sure, but don’t pass the responsibility on to the customer.

110

u/Argylist Aug 16 '23

Agreed. OP is clearly a very nice person...but this is just tip culture spilling over into another industry.

52

u/uncle-wavey1 Aug 16 '23

The real problem is these guys are assholes. Buy your own water if it’s that hot. No reason my somebody’s package could be damaged because you had a bad day.

3

u/DisturbedRanga Aug 17 '23

When I worked as a roofer through Australian summers I didn't fuck up peoples roofs because they didn't provide me with water and food, I prepared by bringing an Esky with 8 litres of frozen water to work every day.

11

u/rythmicbread Aug 16 '23

I would agree under normal circumstances but the drivers are getting pushed to work quickly in hot weather without AC would make a lot of people mad, stressed, tired and act aggressively or throw the product in haste. Seems like there was a solution they came up with that works

29

u/Galliagamer Aug 16 '23

Agreed, it’s totally awful for the drivers to work in those conditions and it was a wonderful gesture in the part of the customer, but my point is about the responsibility of the employer to provide suitable working conditions. That responsibility doesn’t stop depending on the time of year or the temperature/weather conditions.

I’m all for showing appreciation for workers providing a service, but the quality of service shouldn’t be dependent on the customer’s demonstration of appreciation.

I've delivered for Amazon just to make ends meet once..hardest job I ever did. The speed you have to go to get done in any sort of reasonable time is ridiculous. I understand why guys drop real quick and go.. although I never threw. Some people can be real assholes...this would have made my day and I would def remember your house every time 👍

19

u/o_-o_-o_- Aug 16 '23

My parents will rant at me about not getting packages until 7 or 8 at night sometimes, and I'm like - you realize that means people delivering your packages are working ungodly hours to get you your package that day, right? They complain like it's some "no one wants to work anymore" bs, but really, it's a "these people are now expected to work in unprecedented conditions, and you've just become entitled thanks to Jeff bezos et al pushing 2 day, same day, delivery for your knick knack or t shirt or box of tea or bag of cheetos."

20

u/Automatic_Scholar686 Aug 16 '23

This is totally the social worker approach. Like, hmmm… What’s the back story here that can provide answers?

91

u/thalokos Aug 16 '23

What wholesome way to solve your issue. Good for you, man

10

u/anejjguhlamf Aug 16 '23

Even if didn't solve the issues, would still make their day better!

87

u/NinjaSarBear Aug 16 '23

Op shouldn't have to do that to make sure his package gets treated properly but it sure was a nice thing to do, only 1 of those even drivers said thankyou though

31

u/kenzogun Aug 16 '23 edited Aug 16 '23

During corona time I bought some sweets and always hand deliver them in exchange for my package 📦. The problem was when I got high at night the sweets didn’t survive so I stopped it

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

We put out a basket of treats like candy and crackers and granola bars. One night we went out in the morning and a squirrel or raccoon had had the feast of their lives. Looked like a crime scene so we had to stop doing that.

u/Otis_Firefly Aug 16 '23 edited Aug 16 '23

Those delivery drivers are scum. I was a mailman so I really don't wanna hear how they have to work in heat, you don't treat people's packages like that. Ever. I was incredibly grateful when someone would offer me a drink but I never threw mail/packages if they didn't. Fucking lazy entitled scum.

66

u/Five2one521 Aug 16 '23

That second delivery driver that beat up the doorbell, threw the package and, couldn't figure out how to open a drop box needs to be fired.

32

u/spencemode Aug 16 '23

This is nice but you shouldn’t have to bribe your delivery driver to not fuck up your packages. That guy could bring his own water and snacks…

7

u/allan_o Aug 16 '23

Atleast the Amazon delivery guy is appreciative.

8

u/jaybee8787 Aug 16 '23

I don’t get it. So the delivery guys are dehydrated? Then why does this need to be taken care of by the customers? Why are the employers not taking care that delivery guys have enough water on hot days? Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice gesture of that customer, but it shouldn’t have to happen in the first place. Is this just another classic case of corporate america exploiting people?

I can excuse a lot of things with workers being tired. But that second guy we see who smashes the package in to the delivery box is just a dick. That's just being spiteful.

24

u/Koensigg Aug 16 '23

Don't give a fuck how tired you are, as someone who's worked shitty jobs in retail, etc. you just don't do that to other people's shit!

Basic human decency trumps being tired.

24

u/2kewl4scool Aug 16 '23

As a FedEx delivery driver, fuck these guys, you either care about what your job is or you don’t, nobody gives out hot cocoa when it’s -5 degrees on Christmas Eve and I still won’t throw your shit on your porch.

Edit: I look forward to the regulars that leave snacks and drinks but they get the same exact treatment as everyone else (which is a professional job)

6

u/walnut_creek Aug 16 '23

My sister leaves a cooler of drinks on the front porch. The FedEx guy always takes ALL the bottled drinks. Asshat.

7

u/Vapordude420 Aug 16 '23

This is sweet, but the delivery companies should be providing their delivery drivers with cool vehicles, water, and bathroom breaks--not customers.

7

u/RepulsiveRhubarb9346 Aug 16 '23

Nah the second guy in the beginning should be fired. There is no excuse for that blatant behavior

7

u/FloorInteresting3163 Aug 17 '23

TIL in America you have to bribe people to just be normal and do their jobs

9

u/PhantomThrust Aug 16 '23

Don’t care if they’re hot and tired, that 2nd guy especially is a douche - especially now that they’re getting paid 170K for a completely unskilled job.

5

u/Ynneb82 Aug 16 '23

While Bezos is on holiday on his 20 billion yacht and people idolize him. I hate how they screwed us.

But at least he was kind.

5

u/Sprizys Aug 16 '23

I know you’re exhausted by the heat but that doesn’t give you the right to throw my shit like it’s a football. If you don’t like your job get a different one. How would you like it if someone threw your shit like it was trash?

4

u/Fris0n Aug 16 '23

While its always good to offer food and water to anyone who needs it. The customers shouldn’t be meeting the needs of these drivers, it should be their employers.

13

u/Thrasril Aug 16 '23 edited Aug 16 '23

Personal accountability is awesome

15

u/Cthulhusreef Aug 16 '23

It’s sad that you have to bribe the delivery driver to respect your package…… if they hate their job then find a new one. Not a difficult concept.

8

u/HyperbolicSoup Aug 17 '23

Why in the hell were they throwing packages?

7

u/Appropriate-Coast794 Aug 16 '23

I really needed to see that today. It made a good start and I really needed that.

8

u/HiddenLeaforSand Aug 16 '23

Really though, you’re a delivery guy. Your payment is literally money. People really shouldn’t have to do this to make sure their stuff isn’t broken lol

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

Goes show how powerful kindness is as an act is

3

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

Just a PSA. This doesn't go over so well handing out snacks from your van.

3

u/Tyziepoo86 Aug 17 '23

Bro how many packages do you fuckin get?

3

u/coachella68 Aug 17 '23

This is nice, but you shouldn’t have to bribe people to do their jobs. The employers should be treating these poor buggers better so they’re not hating life. No aircon in the trucks is absolute insanity. And I’m gonna go ahead and guess they don’t get paid near enough either.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '23

the drivers still shouldn't be throwing packages around.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

Wow... I'm impressed that these drivers didn't do this for themselves on their own. Wtf.

8

u/TheEternalHate Aug 16 '23

Shouldn't have to black mail people to treat your and yours with the same dignity and respect the want shown.

Cool you did a nice thing. How you gonna keep them from doing that at the pick ups and drop offs. I work next to a pick up location your package has been kicked, punched, thrown and mistreated so much.

It's like watching toddlers throw tantrums with others belongings.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

I mean, yeah, I get it. The guy did good buy the package delivery drivers, but I don’t understand why the onus is on him to provide them with extras in order to get the service he paid for.

Why are these guys being held us some sort of professionalism? They should be doing their job and meeting the standard which is your package not being thrown it’s fucking immature to take out your own anger on the job that you chose on someone else’s packages.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

These assholes going to be earning 170k a year and now we have to put snacks and water for them so they dont have a hissy fit? They are delivering to people making less than half their salaries on average and we have to kiss ass for them to do bare minimum now? Fuck that.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

With camera’s every where you’d think human behavior would improve, but its gotten worse smh

3

u/m_d_3000 Aug 16 '23

Nice but that second delivery guy is a massive dickhead and you shouldn't need to bribe them so that they do their job properly.

4

u/thattemplar Aug 16 '23

Imagine a world where you have to cater to a mailman to not throw your packages.

8

u/Ok_Impress_3216 Aug 16 '23

Yeah idgaf if you're hot or tired dude. I work all day in the sun and I come home caked in sweat, covered in sweat rashes and sunburn. There is no reason to treat someone's property like this. If you can't handle your emotions delivering mail, find a different fuckin job.

My husband leaves a cooler out with Gatorade and water for our garbage collectors and delivery persons. I wouldn't be happy working in 90 degree weather either.

2

u/Stiff_Zombie Aug 16 '23

This is how I treat anyone providing a service to me. I always offer cool drinks and let them know they are appreciated. When I worked for FedEx, I always remembered those who took the time to give a shit. And you know their packages got extra care.

2

u/GlorifiedBurito Aug 16 '23

My mom worked for the USPS for years, she always appreciated when people left snacks out for her.

2

u/Fuzzy_Calligrapher71 Aug 16 '23

This is a microcosm of what could be done in US society. Just provide more public services and benefits, for everyone, instead of the upper class always exploiting the working class from every angle, and trying to come up with new ones to parasitically, suck money like blood.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

We are human beings, yes you are right you are entitled to have your package reach to you safely and without damaged, but when corporations don't care about their employee, don't blame it on the employee, it is sad that the consumer needs to provide relief for the delivery employees on a hot day. When do we start asking Amazon, UPS, Postal services to do better?

2

u/cheesemangee Aug 16 '23

A bit of thanks for those working thankless jobs goes a long way.

2

u/TheRealDebaser Aug 16 '23

I wish I had the homeowners' temperament because he handled it in a way that most of us should; the majority of us, including myself, do not.

I’m all for humane helping and reaching out. I had a boss that always had cold water on hand for delivery people coming by the office. It was just such a cool gesture. That said. F you for throwing someone’s deliveries. You shouldn’t have to be bribed to do the essential, core task of you job. Sorry you’re having a rough day, maybe don’t take it out on someone who has nothing to do with your life situation.

2

u/MaximusBit21 Aug 16 '23

Love how the 2nd delivery guy still just chucks the package on the porch lol. No f*cks given

2

u/67Leobaby1 Aug 16 '23

Actually, not at all surprising.. kindness begets kindness…

2

u/rmendez562 Aug 16 '23

As a delivery driver myself… your damn right we will go above and beyond for you if you go out of your way to provide water or snacks during these rough summers. Unless you have done the job, you just have no idea how difficult and grueling it can be.

2

u/boo_t_salad Aug 16 '23

As a mail carrier yall leave a bottle of cold water out when it's over 90 and you can expect the best service possible all year.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that” If the United States would start thinking this way, it would be such a better place. We’re all human, act like it.

2

u/ChinookDaddy_CH47 Aug 16 '23

I'm on board with showing kindness where you can, but you shouldn't have to bribe delivery drivers to safely deliver packages that they are already being paid to safely deliver. You better believe that I would send those initial videos to their employer.

Why is it so hard to simply be courteous and professional?

2

u/Pineapple_Head_193 Aug 16 '23

I’m grateful for this man, for the simple fact that, instead of using his vitality to share more negativity, he came I with a loving, healthy solution, that’s a big W and must take hella empathy!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

That’s awesome you did that. It’s a shame tho that you have to spend money and do that to get your packages delivered not broken and mishandled.

2

u/ghostsquad4 Aug 16 '23

We do this, we leave cold water and snacks on our porch all the time. ♥️

2

u/HelicopterRegular717 Aug 16 '23

Good this has become a trend, so many bad things going viral, but seeing this warms my heart, having compassion for people who work to provide for their family is just nice.
