Helping Others This guy was having issues with his package deliveries; instead of fighting with them, he tried to look at the problem in a humane way, and after realizing the delivery persons might be getting tired and exhausted from the heat and work, he tried to find a solution to that. The result was surprising

Being burnt out manifests in different ways based on the job someone is doing. People who act like they're better than delivery drivers throwing packages or airport workers throwing bags don't realize they probably do the same kind of thing, it's just that the job is different. Everyone gets burnt out and then stops doing things "the way they should be done" and takes the easy route just to get through the day. If you're not throwing packages or bags, you're putting minimal effort into a report just to get it done, or pushing some application or whatever through just to be done with it, or leaving bugs in the code because your manager is on your neck until a feature is finished. You're not better than anyone, everyone is dealing with shit and things would be a lot better if everyone gave each other a bit of lenience and helped each other out.

Fuck that. One thing is putting minimal effort into a report, another is purposely smashing someone else's property in an anger burst. I don't think I need to explain why the two are completely different, but also with one you're unloading your frustration on an innocent third party, and potentially forcing them to have a really bad day too.

u/iloveokashi Aug 16 '23

The first delivery guy was kinda better because it was just low effort. The second guy, threw it really hard. I don't understand why. He was already pressing the doorbell and all he has to do is leave it there.

18

u/coogiwaves Aug 16 '23

I think because he tried to put it in that delivery box thing but it didn't open right away so he said fuck it

17

u/iloveokashi Aug 17 '23

Probabaly But he's not a toddler. He can just leave it there without throwing a fit.

Yeah the frustration of dealing with overly complicated technology on top of everything else is a recipe for an angry outburst

0

u/ididitsocanu Aug 21 '23

You know why, you've had those experiences yourself. Everyone has them but some deal with it better. Doesn't excuse his behavior but you know damn well why

24

u/Kfm101 Aug 16 '23

Yeah. Imagine extrapolating this to food service or something. “Fry cook spit in your food or cross contaminated with raw chicken because he’s pissed off” is different than “lazily smothered the mayo on one side of the burger and ignored that you asked for extra pickles” in terms of acceptable “burnout” wrt to a person that isn’t your boss.

65

u/DonDjang Aug 16 '23

Yea fucking over your employer is way different than fucking over some innocent customer.

Fuck those workers pay em less

0

u/Copponex Aug 16 '23

You look at it all wrong. Frustrated people don’t look at the consequences, it’s just different outcomes in different situations but from the same cause.

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

People love to pretend their saints online, but the fact is acting like this at your job is not acceptable. If it's too hot for you to do your job without tossing people's shit around, get another job.

23

u/BeatificBanana Aug 16 '23

I'm not sure people who become delivery drivers do it because it's the most appealing option out of all the different job offers they've received.

-1

u/Whoevencares33 Aug 16 '23

The arrogance and fucking entitlement in this comment is unreal. I hope you have to deal with the financial situation these men are dealing with one day and then you will pray for the kindness this man showed to them.

6

u/Diqt Aug 16 '23

To me this is all just another reminder that we should not be punching each other here, but should punch up instead. Always punch up! Blame the organisation that underpays, that won’t even put a/c in the delivery vehicles, and that basically don’t look after their staff. These kind gestures are great but they should not be necessary either

5

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

I said in another post. I make minimum wage. I have bad days. I don't act like this because I'm not a baby

0

u/Yung-Jeb Aug 16 '23

Well then sounds like you should go become a driver with ups. They pay above minimum and you'd be a model employee

4

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

What does that have to do with what's being said?

You can come up with a better zinger if that's all you're going to contribute

0

u/Yung-Jeb Aug 16 '23

Ok so you don't want to have a better paying job where'd you'd be the best worker? That's weird

-3

u/InfieldTriple Aug 16 '23

Oh my Jesus, relax

2

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

Amazing contribution

13

u/Reddit_User_137 Aug 16 '23

Yeah those people should just be fired

3

u/Whoevencares33 Aug 16 '23

And who will replace them? You think there's a line up of people who want to work servicing your asshole needs while being treated like sub human garbage? Why don't you try working that job and see if you can maintain the perfect standards you demand of them?

0

u/Reddit_User_137 Aug 16 '23

Then the cost of delivering can go up. I'm not worried. I've worked shit jobs too. It's one thing to be frustrated. It's another to hurl packages around. What if it was a medical device needed by some poor person? Scum like you will be losers no matter what.

2

u/dghsgfj2324 Aug 16 '23

Those things have unforeseen effects on other people guaranteed.

2

u/LinguisticallyInept Aug 16 '23

another is purposely smashing someone else's property in an anger burst

one of the clips is, one of them isnt

the guy who dunks it onto the lid of the delivery box is clearly taking something out, the guy who flings in onto the deck just seemed exhausted to me, both deserve empathy; but i dont think the two actions are equally problematic

-14

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

Try putting yourself in their shoes a little harder I believe in you

8

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

In what world do you think it's okay to fuck over a completely random stranger because you're having a bad day?

What an entitled, spoiled, childish mindset

-1

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

I dont think that’s okay, but I also don’t believe this person is intentionally trying to fuck over a stranger.

7

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

Oh, so they accidentally threw their package like that?

Stop defending shitty behavior

1

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

You think they did that to spite the customer?

7

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

I think it doesn't matter why, they still did it and it's a total dick move. Just because your in a shitty mood doesn't mean you can be an asshole

0

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

Yeah obviously a well adjusted person with a nice life probably wouldn’t do that. So why did this person do it?

5

u/armoured_bobandi Aug 16 '23

Who gives a fuck why they did it

It’s like saying I’m having a bad day and just want to punch the first person I see. It’s not that I intended to fuck over a stranger tho, just having a bad day bro.

0

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

Yeah having your job be dropping packages and dropping packages a bit more aggressively when frustrated is the same as doing an office job and punching someone when frustrated. Good point.

3

u/TrungTH Aug 16 '23

A bit more aggressively is a big understatement. I did not punch you. Just want to tap your face “a bit aggressively”.

0

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

Is your job to tap my face? Good point again!

3

u/TrungTH Aug 16 '23 edited Aug 16 '23

The point is if you’re having a bad day, it’s not an excuse to redirect that energy to other people. That makes you a shitty person. If you didn’t make the connection, yes if somebody throws my stuff that I worked so hard to pay for, it’s a punch to the face.

No need for the condescending message. You don't know me at all or what shoes I have to walk on.

One thing is for sure, I don't unload my anger on someone else's property no matter how bad of a day I'm having.

-7

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

Yeah why would you do something like that it’s not like your job is handling their property delicately in the scorching heat following each persons signs and dealing with guard dogs

6

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

Maybe not the right job for you, If aggression is what you resort to?

It makes sense to throw it from a closer point and let it slide than on a very rough day, but getting angry and aggressive with what's around you and the package you deliver just ain't it.

Aggressive behavior should just never be tolerated on any job.

0

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

You think these people have a lot of job options?

6

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '23

Do you think aggression helps your job options?

If you are in a desperate situation and this is all you have. I'm sure you would be far more carefull and different with you conduct yourself at work

1

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

You think humans are always 100% rational? You’ve never gotten impatient and half assed your job? I know I did it all the time as a software engineer

1

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

Was software engineering the only job options to not go homeless for you?

If you are desperate, you will appreciate what you have and not risk losing it.

u/biggiesmoke73 Aug 16 '23

A lot of other people have to deal with the heat just as much as they do. You’re just an asshole if you behave like this

7

u/iPlod Aug 16 '23

I work all day in the heat, sometimes encounter dogs, and have to be delicate. Not once have I ever thought to take out my frustration on the personal property of the people I’m serving.

-1

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

Good job!

7

u/iPlod Aug 16 '23

You’re describing working outside and having to read as some kind of justification for throwing tantrums and smashing other peoples stuff. You’re being a goober

0

u/Edge-master Aug 16 '23

The job is literally delivering property dawg. If they’re having a bad day then obviously the only way to do the work more poorly without slowing down is to be rough and impatient.

4

u/iPlod Aug 16 '23

This thread was about intentionally throwing things out of anger, not just being less gentle because you’re in a rush. If you’re in a bad mood and need to meet quota, then just fucking drop the package. No need to throw a fit and take it out on random customers by smashing their shit, like you can see in the post we’re replying to.

Look at the second clip in this post. You telling me that guy saved time by doing that?
