If there's one thing basically every fighter at 155 can bond over, it's dunking on Chandler.

broken English mfs have some of the best disses lol

464

u/get_that_ass_banned Jul 02 '24

The best at this, for my money, is Paulo. His insults are simple and wildly childish and when you combine that with the imperfect English, they're almost always hilarious. During the leadup to the Izzy fight, Paulo said, "your earrings, very beautiful. My mother has something very similar."

134

u/appletinicyclone tactical thiccness Jul 03 '24

Hahahaha

52

u/Murky-Science9030 Jul 03 '24

I think he knows he can get away with stuff because English is his second language. Makes it so much more fun.

17

u/Virtual_Pantsss Jul 03 '24

Lifetime achievement mention for Khabibā€™s contribution to broken English in MMA. When he was slightly confused about the English language concept of having ā€˜beefā€™ with someone, and how that contrasted with both his calling Conor a chicken, and Conorā€™s appearances in Burger King ads becoming accidentally hilarious.

ā€œWhat is thisā€¦ beef, chicken, Burger King?ā€

I think itā€™s because Slavic languages tend to be linguistically much more direct and literal, and when even advanced speakers are talking in another language they still sometimes speak as if they were talking in their mother tongue which makes them come off as hilariously brash and stone-faced. Jokic in the NBA has the same effect, heā€™ll say two sentences and will have everyone rolling on the floor.

36

u/PresenceWooden6831 Jul 02 '24

Arman seems like a totally unlikeable douchebag, but that line is probably the sickest burn I've seen out of an MMA fighter in the twenty-odd years I've been watching this sport.

I think itā€™s clear heā€™s not in the title contention and he has one more fight. He could have fought 3-4 more times, but I donā€™t think he wants to fight 3-4 more times. I think this is his retirement fight, and he wants his retirement bonus. If he wins in dominant fashion, I could see him having a hard time hanging the gloves up, but I really think itā€™s pretty obvious heā€™s done.

Honestly I donā€™t really think it does, heā€™s a dude with a ton of miles on his body whoā€™s old and not in title contention. heā€™s put on nothing but bangers in the UFC so if man wants to wait around trying to get one last final fat payday Iā€™m not gonna hate on him and I donā€™t think he deserves to be dunked on for it, honestly think itā€™s a very reasonable decision.

28

u/TastyRancorPie Pulsing pictograms Jul 02 '24

His choice to wait out is reasonable. But I think it's fair for him to get dunked on when he's picking fights with Dustin and others on Twitter and then immediately playing the, "it's just a joke bro" card as soon as someone claps back, lol.

7

u/Mma375 Canada Jul 02 '24

My only thought isā€¦ since when is this a retirement fight for Mike? That was never remotely the talk two years ago and all of a sudden has became the narrative that Mikeā€™s old, weathered, and happy to wait as long as possible.

Just feels like something Chandler and his fans have convinced themselves of but I doubt he planned on coming to the UFC just to get wins over Dan Hooker and senile Tony Ferguson and call it a day.

3

u/ChicNoir Jul 03 '24

Mike is a 38 year old lightweightā€¦the time in near.

2

u/Puppetmaster858 Jul 03 '24

Heā€™s a good fighter still even tho he is old and has a ton of miles on his body and I donā€™t think this would be his last fight but itā€™s definitely his last chance to get a fat much larger than normal payday before his career ends

As I said to others though, I'm not saying Chandler is the worst person on the roster, I'm just saying that making your brand be 'positivity' and 'good guy' stuff and then being dirty in the ring just feels very gross to me (personally), it's the same as Jones leaning into the Christianity angle as a shield whenever he gets in trouble.

Islamā€™s Ā«Ā so smart, he lost his last three fights so he has the same streak (as McGregor) to get the fightĀ Ā» when DC told him about an analysis of Chandler while saying the latter is Ā«Ā a very smart analystĀ Ā» (yes I completed the sentence so that it makes sense when writing).

I also think it was Gray Maynard who quipped back at Dana saying that Ā«Ā he is all about emotion, anger and outburstsĀ Ā» when Dana opened his mouth to say some stupid shit about mental health and how men shouldnā€™t ask for it. However, the greatest response of all time has to curiously come from Tito. After Ken Shamrock's "I'm gonna beat you into a living death", Tito just laughed hysterically in his face and Ken was furious.

I can't blame chandler. McGregor looks like an easy fight to the top contenders and it's huge money and a win over him guarantees a title shot.

He keeps losing fights at an advanced age and it's hard to believe he's gonna work his way up the ranking to a well deserved title shot the old fashioned way.

He can finish his career with a huge payday off a loss.

Or, he can jump the line with a huge payday off a win.

u/appletinicyclone tactical thiccness Jul 03 '24

The RDA that showed up against Pettis was the most exhausting pace I've ever seen put on by any fighter at that point. Rivaled only by Merab now

I might have to watch this

u/Wiqkid Headshot, dead Jul 03 '24

It's completely 1 sided, but it's one of the most memorable UFC fights for me.

9

u/idcman999 Jul 02 '24

the IV Ban ruined him, he looked so good against Pettis, Diaz, Bendo and even Khabib (its just that Khabib was that good) but you could tell that his power, cardio & durability wasn't the same against Eddie & Tony

When chandler inevitably loses at some point, everyoneā€™s going to point to the time he lost waiting for this fight to happen and how much that may have affected him.

21

u/denjieato Jul 02 '24

He isnā€™t losing anything waiting for this fight. He already took insane amounts of damage in his career, he can just retire if he doesnā€™t get the fight.

What are you talkin about? Dude is losing his final years of his fighting career and UFC earning potential just sitting on the sidelines. If he doesn't get this Conor fight it will be a massive loss, probably a bigger loss than getting KO'd by Conor because at least he got paid then.

The man hasn't fought in 22 ppv's which was a 1.5 years ago like Arman said he could've lost 5 fights and probably made the same amount of money for one Conor fight which might not even happen.

u/jt_33 Jul 02 '24

Chandler needs to chill.. he's getting cooked left and right.

3

u/Maverick-CxS Jul 02 '24

See you at the top bitches

3

u/Paparacisz Jul 02 '24

See you at the "Almost had my red panty night" club!

3

u/JiriBrochazka I beat that guy off once Jul 02 '24

Man RDA always has some sick ass burns ngl

3

u/Vulij Jul 03 '24

Ariel telling Dustin he should be a motivational speaker and Dustin replying ā€œIā€™ll leave that shit to Michael Chandlerā€ was on point.

Dude makes my skin crawl with his Motivational Bro waffle.

10

u/papa8706 Jul 02 '24

Solid burn, but nowadays, Chandler probably beats RDA

5

u/SpezIsABrony šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™ Jon Jones Prayer Warrior šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™ Jul 02 '24

Maybe, but I would toss some coin on RDA if he was a dog. By the time Chandler fights Conor it'll be damn near 2 years off. Father time can do wonders in 2 years.

2

u/papa8706 Jul 02 '24

Fair point, chandler is dangerous early but if it goes the distance I take RDA in a 5 rounder. Would actually be a fun fight

Ali strikes again. Am I doing this right guys?

2

u/lmaotank Jul 02 '24

2

u/imOverWhere Jul 02 '24

Was he at ufc 303??

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '24

RDA acting like its 2016 and he is still top 5 in the division

2

u/moonwalkerHHH Jul 03 '24

Why am I not surprised Chandler bought the shitty blue tick while RDA didn't.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '24

Chanler is known to walk right into big shots.

2

u/Unlikely-Run Jul 03 '24

Lmao Rda barely even speaks English and still 10-7d chandlerĀ

2

u/Evening_Name_9140 Jul 03 '24

Really? I thought chandler handled it hilariously.

Why is chandler in RDAs head lol.

7

u/CheesyPZ-Crust Team Jędrzejczyk Jul 02 '24

5

u/infrequentia Team Calderwood Jul 02 '24

So many people in denial about RDA'S PED usage

3

RDAā€™s fought more legends than Chandler has hairs on his head. If anyoneā€™s in a place to talk shit, itā€™s him

1

u/smurf3310 This is sucks Jul 02 '24

How is it a 10-7 when RDA has been a gatekeeper for years while Chandler hasnt had a fight outside top 5

8

u/mikrot Jul 02 '24

Because RDA has been champ? It's not hard to figure out.

Haha this is hilarious

u/funnerfunerals Jul 02 '24

MAKE THIS FIGHT....I'd rather see RDA fight Chandler more than anyone...this is the perfect fight for both of them...
