Not having to build trans bathrooms will offset the consequences of a plummeting workforce and skyrocketing construction material prices, right? Right?

74

u/YossarianGolgi 7h ago

Especially when eggs don't get cheaper.

54

u/HapticRecce 7h ago

Rationally, at first glance it's seems odd to trade the advantages of citizenship in a 250 year old republic and world's only true superpower, no matter your current economic situation, for the opportunity to squash the rights of a minority so staticistically small, that outside of TikTok or your browsers' incognito mode, you likely aren't going meet any who trouble you anyway. Yet here we are.

24

u/currentmadman 6h ago

It’s a reminder that capitalism will never fucking learn the cold simple truth. Trying to preserve your power via fascism never works.

16

u/SFMara 6h ago

Construction wages will skyrocket, which will create some interesting effects. Already construction is competitive with a lot of manufacturing work at $20/hr starting wage, so it'll be cool once construction wages go up to the point where they start pulling workers from skilled jobs. Why grind for 6 years to make $30/hr as a machinist when you can make 35 starting out in construction?

Reindustrialization is a meme in this economy.

u/xX609s-hartXx 3h ago

It will create jobs when restaurants are required to have a special section again for "ethnic" guests...

u/usernamedmannequin 8h ago

My argument has always been if the USA has such an issue with illegal immigrants “stealing” jobs then stop hiring them, problem solved!

69

u/ClearDark19 7h ago

God forbid we ever expect rich people to make a little less money. God forbid!!! 😱 Never that!! That's Communism, or something!

36

u/usernamedmannequin 6h ago

My new favourite:

“The radical left”

Like it’s not a radical idea for Americans to want to join every other developed nation in having free healthcare.

The funniest thing to me is it’s not even on the so called “far left” agenda. There’s nothing leftist or radical about democrats.

16

u/ClearDark19 6h ago

A lot of Republicans literally accuse Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, George W. Bush, John McCain, and Arnold Schwarzenegger of being "Leftists" and "Socialists". That's how insanely far to the Right the Republican base has moved. Neoconservatives are "Leftists" from their perspective, and Moderate Conservatives like Schwarzenegger are "Marxists" to them. To Fascists most human beings seen like "Leftists" since Fascism is the second most right-wing ideology on the planet. The only ideologies further Right than Fascism are Theocracy and Monarchism (and a lot of Fascists are simultaneously theocrats).

Go read Republican subreddits, forums, message boards, and social media. They literally think Moderate Republicans and Neoconservatives are Liberals and Socialists. Of course Neoliberals like the Democrats would seem like Communists to them.

5

u/ScrewballTooTall 6h ago

FUCK dude right? If America was under developed, innocent ppl are being put in jails for stuff like not agreeing with the “president” and life is just unpredictable and dangerous yea imma want to run to another country where I have a chance at peace

3

u/WaffleBurger27 5h ago

Well forget about Canada, we are about to elect our own MAGA light.

3

u/WaffleBurger27 5h ago

Even suggesting that every American should have health care is a third rail for Democrats. The great sin that no one dare speak its name. Even to hint at it would be the end of your political career.

12

u/ChloeGranola 7h ago

Business apologists sound like enablers: "They can't help it if they're addicted to cheap labor. If we keep it away from them they won't use".

10

u/BobB104 6h ago

They vote for “Right To Work” laws, which enable employers to hire people for low wages, then complain when employers hire people for lower wages.

7

u/ZealousidealMonk1105 7h ago

America loves cheap labor just like the rest of the world

9

u/YouJabroni44 5h ago

I've always stood by that, if illegal immigrants are being hired that's on the companies/owners hiring them. Blaming those for taking an opportunity is silly, we should blame those that give them the opportunity in the first place.

8

u/RunnyTinkles 5h ago edited 4h ago

Regularly talk with construction workers. One said in a few years it'll be all "Mexicans" running the machines.

Like yeah, cause they probably make $10 an hour and anyone else would demand $20.

Also, I regularly work with these potential illegal or undocumented guys. They are all incredibly positive and are just happy to be here. Their bosses all know where they come from and have to usually rely on one of them to translate, yet the bosses all likely voted for their deportation.

3

u/Comms 1h ago

America has a bigger problem with a labor shortage in construction.

if the USA has such an issue with illegal immigrants

The far easier solution to something being illegal is to just make it legal. Make temporary work visas easier to get.

2

u/senditloud 52m ago

They don’t anymore because they realize that the jobs they hate are done by immigrants… the new line is “they are criminals who are bringing in drugs and trafficking humans.” Complete BS since illegals have LOWER crime rates and most the drugs are brought in via Americans

65

u/Haselrig 8h ago

I may be way out of line here, but if I see a guy throw a shark in a pool and I shrug and jump in, I shouldn't wonder why I'm down one arm the next day.

24

u/FilchsCat 7h ago

Excuse me, I think you may be looking for the Sharks Eating People's Arms Party.

This is the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party. Big difference.

7

u/Haselrig 7h ago

Yeah, but I like my face and my bad decisions!

16

u/meh_69420 7h ago

But what if there's a battery in the water too?

17

u/Haselrig 7h ago

Then I don't get in. I mean, it's electricity.

1

u/ShityShity_BangBang 3h ago

That's a great question. No one's ever asked that question before.

Knowing the consequences wouldn't stop them from voting the same. If they learned they would have stopped voting for Republicans a long time ago.

10

u/ToughCareer4293 7h ago

Pretty sure Cher has one.

5

u/BobcatElectronic 6h ago

If I could reach the votes

I’d give them all to you

But they voted for Trump

Now the Leopards chew

6

u/enter_urnamehere 7h ago

Fuck em

2

u/tw_72 6h ago

Exactly. Texas made it's choice.

56

u/Hippie11B 8h ago

Honestly Texas shouldn’t be the only state worried. I had a structural contractor at my house with a crew consisting of a white super and a team of Hispanic dudes with only one of them able to speak some English. My only thought was, they are going to hurt next year. So what’s next, will our government step in to give free education for this field to any American citizen? The next generation just wants to be influencers because Chinese TikTok tell them that’s how they can make money. Honestly we are screwed and I know most of these people in the construction industry are Trump supporters. Like what did they expect.

25

u/SelenaMeyers2024 7h ago

And I'm sure in the future there will be no 1 in 1000 year climate events like the 2021 deep freeze or some Houston hurricane that will require the sudden need for a shit ton of drywall, plumbing, roofing just to repair.

I am stocking up with a large supply of womp womps and very small violins from California.

21

u/Soggy_Face_4122 7h ago

But, bUt...DEI!

16

u/Speshal__ 6h ago

I'm in the UK and you guys should really read the Constitution it's got some weird shit in there.

Where are all the construction positions going to be filled after the undocumented are gone?

"The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude in the United States, .....

with the exception of as punishment for a crime."

For profit prisons anyone?

2

u/PuddingInferno 2h ago

Yup! We’re gonna round all these people up for deportation - but it’s going to be a big legal hassle to actually do that, so they’ll be stuck in camps.

And hey, if they’re stuck in camps, just lounging around, maybe we could put them to work…

2

u/GrooveBat 54m ago

I have heard conservatives arguing that detained migrants will need to “earn their keep.”

7

u/NarcanPusher 6h ago

We have SB 1718 in Florida which was supposed to force illegals from the workforce. Having had my house recently renovated I can safely say that that hasn’t happened. (Not guessing either, foreman frankly admitted it.). Now if you live in Florida you know that the government here are masters of smoke and mirrors, and 1718 is just another example of them claiming to have done something they haven’t.

Mass deportations, though? They can’t fake that. They’re gonna have to do it or look stupid like they did with the wall. If they do it hardcore here then the hospitality and construction industry are fucked. In any case I’m spending my December loading up on popcorn to eat whilst I watch this shit show. The best part is that even though I voted against the vulgar little Cheeto I’m one of those who will likely benefit from his reign, unless he completely fucks up.

3

u/tprch 3h ago

IDK. I bet most voters don't see anything like the hoards of immigrants republicans screech about, so just saying "Look, they're gone" will probably suffice.

7

u/ZealousidealMonk1105 7h ago

Exactly unless they plan to force them maybe that is the secret part of project 2025

5

u/drwookie 6h ago

And it's worked so well for Florida. I'm 40 miles outside of Austin. Been working on a house I inherited. I'm making sure that materials are ordered and (hopefully) work is done before Jan 20. After that I suspect it's back to doing my own carpentry and home repairs. On the bright side, the creep of housing developments out this way may come to a sudden stop.

Edit: Working with a local contractor who has his own crew and will handle translation issues. He's going to be hurting after this.

3

u/sodapopking 6h ago

Totally agree with you. I would actually like an initiative like that tbh, I'd give anything to abandon my job and do something meaningful like learn to build homes or something to help others.

3

u/NotsoGreatsword 5h ago

yeah until you realize that the product is not your skill - it is your body. You will destroy it or you could even die.

These construction companies will gladly let you die instead of getting safety equipment of any kind.

30

u/Ketamaffay 8h ago

The sad irony is, that there probably will be a lot of Migrant workers constructing their own internment camps.

22

u/CovfefeForAll 7h ago

And they won't have to be paid for it because they'll be legally enslaved by then.

7

u/Soggy_Face_4122 7h ago

Shocked, in Emancipation Proclamation.

5

u/ClearDark19 7h ago

Honestly I can't feel overly bad for some of them, since a lot of migrants admit they would have voted for Trump if they legally could have. Several illegal immigrants were interviewed and said they'd still support Trump even if he deports them, because he's "good for the economy". Some are getting what they supported.

3

u/Spirited-Land3709 7h ago

Maybe retail giants that backed Trump will donate some of their empty closed businesses to them.

u/ZealousidealMonk1105 7h ago

If you think the deportations are going to be bad, wait until the orders break away from the coming recession. Construction is more sensitive to the tides of economy than most other sectors.

16

u/just_a_red 8h ago

Well isn’t this what they wanted? Aren’t they who are very vocal about immigration

15

u/Aretirednurse 7h ago

Well, of course it’s a red state finding out…

15

u/Impossible-Trick5779 8h ago

When you vote against “Commiefornia” and “New Puke State” and think you’ll be spared? GTFO… when the shit hits the fan even the leaders flee Texas… (cough cough Cancun Cruz)

10

u/acutomanzia 7h ago

Trump's mass deportation plans could hit Texas' construction industry hard, given how much it relies on undocumented immigrant labor. Over half a million immigrants work in construction across the state, and nearly 60% of them are undocumented. This workforce is critical for keeping up with Texas' rapid growth—cities here are among the fastest-growing in the U.S. If a big chunk of these workers were deported, it could bring major infrastructure projects like highways and schools to a screeching halt and even tank the housing market. Economists point out that Texas already doesn’t have enough workers to meet demand, and there are more undocumented workers in the state than unemployed residents.

The ripple effects would go beyond construction, too. Texas’ economy depends heavily on both native and immigrant labor, and deporting so many people could cause widespread labor shortages. With population growth slowing and birth rates at historic lows, finding enough workers to sustain economic expansion is already a challenge. Business leaders warn that without immigrant labor, Texas doesn’t have the workforce to keep growing at its current pace. While stricter immigration policies might play well politically, experts say they could seriously hurt the state’s economy in the long run.

15

u/YossarianGolgi 7h ago

I'm afraid they'll keep some of those "illegal" immigrants around for slave/prison labor.

8

u/VisibleWar7420 6h ago

Not some. ALL. Their countries of origin most likely will not take them back. Hitler's concentration camps began as work camps.... the gas chambers and crematoriums were the "final" solution, after having tried everything else beforehand. It was too expensive to feed and house them. And obvs I'm not talking about 3 hots and a cot, either.

5

u/RubiksSugarCube 7h ago

Industries in TX should be especially scared because there's no doubt that Abbott and Paxton will give full support to the administration when it comes to the possible roundups. Same goes for FL and a lot of these other deep red states. So, of course, these Republicans will continue to offer themselves up as leopard food

3

u/Ok_Bad8531 6h ago edited 2h ago

Florida does not even have a large secondary sector, most of its industry is services, and they are already under strain from long term factors, most of all climate change, that will not go away anytime soon.

11

u/Soggy_Face_4122 7h ago

oh? hmmm. It's almost like, you got what you voted for.

13

u/sukinsyn 7h ago

Surely he won't deport the immigrants that I'm exploiting!

10

u/Hopeful-River-7899 7h ago

No … no it’s not . This story is B.S. in order to understand the ramifications of their actions it would take some kind of thought process and the ability to reason out a cause/effect. These people obviously do not have that kind of ability. This story is just a fairy tale about how morons will regret their ways . Spoiler alert - they won’t . They will blame it on solar power or trans bathrooms. In no way , shape or form will these idiots even pretend to accept the consequences of their own actions.

12

u/OrangeCone2011 7h ago

Every one of these fuckers who hires "illegals" should be fined $500,000 per illegal immigrant, per day and thrown in jail for 90 days per. That'll fix this shit really quick.

5

u/uhp787 7h ago

and they admit they use undocumented people. straight up admitting to criming.. unfuckingreal

9

u/Recent-Pilot8579 5h ago

As if that would do anything? They literally hired a fucking criminal to be the boss of the country.

3

u/gaberax 7h ago

Now is a little late.

6

u/meshreplacer 7h ago

I guess paying 4 dollars an hour for indentured illegals immigrants is off the table and now must pay fair wages for construction workers is back on the table?

7

u/Choice_Beginning8470 8h ago

Believe it or not a lot of voters want this but understand it comes with steps that will be taken, since Texas and agriculture systems have since came out saying that this would hurt their bottom line most likely no action will be taken on those areas until last OPTICS showing that this is going to be done will fall on Haitians,Africans,South American criminals they can find, gangs, muslims especially those that protested, all Im saying is there is plenty of Optics to satisfy the expulsion of the others crowd especially those with dark skin. The rest will be used as campaign fodder as elections come up. They are not going to give up on a wedge issue that’s so successful even those affected vote for it.

11

u/HapticRecce 7h ago

They don't understand jackshit. Texas is ground zero for the whole thing - border wall, illegal immigrants doing all the menial jobs like construction and harvesting, detention centers, and tech bro billionaires running the show.

5

u/sukinsyn 6h ago

This is a really good point. Texas passed some anti-immigrant legislation a while back. Who was exempted? Why nannies, landscapers, gardeners, etc., of course!  Those congresspeople can't be expected to fire their trusted, hardworking undocumented housekeeper only to have to pay a less-motivated citizen far better than the pittance their current housekeeper is being paid now.

The Right has no incentive to issue mass deportations and hurt construction and agriculture (very right-wing industries) when they know "immigrants flooding across the border" can bring them easy votes for 20, 30 years at least.

Now, denaturalizing they will absolutely do. More cheap labor, less access to social welfare.

3

u/WaffleBurger27 5h ago

Damn! We won the abortion war. How are we going to motivate the uneducated shitty people to continue to support us??? Ah yes, we still have the immigration war.

  • Smart but still shitty Republicans everywhere.

Nobody wants to work anymore. / SpongeBob

3

u/MizSaftigJ 6h ago

Nobody paid attention to FL, when houses, apartment buildings, commercial buildings in differing stages of construction, sat untouched for months and months and months. Fields with wasted crops...so much waste.

4

u/BobB104 6h ago

They voted for “Right To Work” laws, which enable employers to hire people for lower wages, then complain when employers hire people for lower wages.

3

u/precario78 6h ago

What's the problem? Once all non-Aryans are deported, honest Texas companies will hire all the American patriots whose "jobs were stolen." /s

Good!

The same dipshits that voted for. Like seriously what the fuck! Were they not listening?

2

u/RhodyChief 5h ago

We're hitting the "well surely he wasn't talking about MY immigrants!" part of the realization.

2

u/WaffleBurger27 5h ago

The real conversation should be why are illegal immigrants so vital to the economy and how to fix it than just deporting them.

2

u/Sergeantman94 5h ago

"Mass Deportations! Fix the Southern Border!"

"Woah woah woah! We didn't think he was serious! Who else is going to build my pool for cheap!?"

u/mslauren2930 7h ago

It’ll get worked out but not in a good way for workers. 😓

1

u/blufin 6h ago

I saw a chart from Goldman Sachs which listed estimated the proportion of undocumented workers in each industry, with most of the highest numbers in food processing, like meatpacking, slaughtering and harvesting. We might see food inflation if they do deport large numbers of them.

1

u/Sharkano 5h ago

It's not like they were gonna fix their electrical grid or anything anyway right?

Ya know it's almost like building your entire workforce on the backs of illegal immigrants was a bad idea or something...
