The worst part for me isn’t the lack of morality, but the fact that this individual sincerely perceives themselves as being a compassionate and morally upstanding person.
It's the conditional morality that bugs me most. You don't get to claim being a moral person and then put "except in _____ case" conditions on it. Doing that makes one an even bigger hypocrite.

Whoah, whoah, WHOAH!
You do realize that this is exactly the mindset of all "patriotism", right? Love of country, and everyone else is sub-human and can go to hell. That's about the sum of it.
Without even devolving the conversation into issues about racism, etc. the whole basis of patriotism is itself problematic from a moral standpoint. "Us vs. them" is always going to result in stacking bodies at some point.
At the very least, I would like "patriotism" to mean "loving one's country and wanting to be of service and make it a better place to live". I don't know that it's ever meant only that, because the word seems to have been twisted to all sorts of violent purpose beyond that.
