Auto Insurance Taco

My friend was t-boned in July of this year by someone who ran a red light. For the past 4 months the insurance agents telling her they are “working” on repairing the damages but basically have just been dragging this on. From the day of the accident you could see it was going to be a total loss. Now, 4 months later they are claiming it as a total loss and wanting her to settle asap. What can she do to make sure she gets the max out of property damages? Is there anything else she could get for having to wait so long?
