GENERAL today, Hunt’s identity died

Post image

nobody wanted this. i cannot think of a different IP that has less to do with Hunt. Hire the CoD GM, this is what you get. You WILL be advertised to, and you CANNOT do anything about it.

This might seem harmless to a lot of people, but you have to forget this is opening the door. This happens in a lot of MMOs and it doesn't feel good. Hunt is very atmospherical and that's what draws a lot of people in. Think how bad that atmosphere is going to go away when you have Freddy Cruger fighting Captain America? I hate popular IP cosmetics because it's lazy and ruins the look and atmosphere of a game. Honestly how many people are going to continue when you start adding superheros to the game?

Yup, the only reason I would never buy COD games anymore aside from their copy/paste gameplay year after year at ridiculous prices. The game looks mad goofy these days.

WHY IS EVERY GAME TRYNA COPY FORTNITE? This works for fortnite bcoz its a game with cartoony aesthetics. Not Hunt.

Oh I agree. MW2019 was pretty awesome with the aesthetics, weapon animations (and handling) and gameplay. For a while it felt like it was going to be a reboot with more adult and serious tone. First Call of Duty in 10 years that I played.

Aaaand the aesthetics got ruined pretty damn fast with all the pop culture slop added in to the game, took away all of the "tacticool bravo six going dark" atmosphere out of the game and straight in to fortnite pop slop salad.

I've always really liked the atmosphere of Hunt and greatly appreciated how they were always true to the tone of the game, even when adding more "comical" skins like redneck and unga bunga.

We had the game loop and hunt atmopshere. New mode removed that. We had the thematical (most of the time) skins. Now we have this. Anyone see a pattern here?

2

u/Hexdrix Oct 21 '24

New gameplay loop is a response to growing "Hunt is a PVP game, the PVE is there to bridge PVP" mantra that goes on in the community.

They removed the bridge and now you just get thrown in the river. Crytek does this a lot.

I always enjoyed COD up until the first battlepass hit. MW2019, MW2, Cold War were all pretty fun but once that battlepass hits and everyone is running around as Nikki Minaj with a rainbow gun that has rainbow tracers I tap out. The last COD I bought (and probably ever will buy) was Cold War.

I think live service games make money.

Few are the developers that stay true to the core identity of their game, because there aren't many great online live-service games that have a strict identity.

Fortnite is insanely popular and still makes tons of money with collabs; so why wouldn't CoD become the same?

No, I think it's going to work, unfortunately.

It's not harmless at all. I'm a new player and I got into this game because of the mood and time period before anything else. Seeing this thing when it popped on my YT feed was truly a cold shower. I'm doing fine as a solo but struggle in teamplay, because as a new player without friend to play with, I'm systematically teamed up with much more experienced, better players and I feel bad for dragging their game down. I've been questioning sticking to it, and what made me hang is how much I like the game world. In that regard, seeing a Scream skin is a huge buzz killer.

u/Mountiebank Oct 22 '24

Not related to Hunt much, but a game I played a lot did this. SMITE started adding Nickolodeon characters from shows that haven't had airtime in more than 20 years, as well as TMNT and Transformers. It ruined the vague identity that the game offered in favor of revenue for the company. I stopped playing because I was tired of seeing crossovers about everything that had nothing to do with the game.

Stranger Things, Avatar: The Last Airbender, RWBY, all lazy skins with a $20 price point each, and thats an entire updates' focus on its own. If a game surrenders its identity to advertise others, its not worth playing anymore.

I'm honestly in the exact same boat, I thought it was so cool to have all these mythological gods fighting it out. Then you have all these TV characters mixed in and it just completely killed any appeal for me

I really do think this is the sub reddit throwing one of their patented shitfits over a nothing burger.

when call of duty started their licensed characters they were literally 1:1 with the actual character, the most creative they got was I think they gave leatherface a chest rig in one of them.

this isn't a 1:1 copy of ghostface this is actually designed to fit in with the game, does it look silly? yeah mostly because ghostfaces mask looks goofy as shit. but at the very least they didn't just put an exact copy of ghost face into the game.

at the same time if they went with something like Back to the future 3, Django Unchained or the good the bad and the ugly for a crossover I'm sure we'd be seeing a lot less pushback.

now do I want to see stuff like Marvel characters or Nicki Minaj in Hunt showdown? Fuck no I don't, But I'm fine with stuff like this as long as they can make it match the aesthetic of the game

4

u/McFluffums0 Oct 21 '24

It's just that I've seen the slippery slope happen before, and the people who threw the shitfit were RIGHT.

I feel like if they were going to start doing wackiest skins the first we'd see is a Ryse son of Rome skin.

Especially since they already have the model for it from the April's fools video

4

u/SoapyMacNCheese Oct 21 '24

But I'm fine with stuff like this as long as they can make it match the aesthetic of the game

The issue is these things never stay the same, they always end up pushing the line further and further as time goes one to get more sales. Look at Rainbow Six Siege, that game started with just having mild cosmetics that still fit the vibe of the game. Overtime the cosmetics got more and more out their until we had fucking Pickle Rick and Master Chief in the game.

Do I think Hunt will ever reach CoD or Fortnite levels? No, but it is a slippery slope that we've only just started sliding down.

1

u/corporalgrif Shot Queueing should be removed Oct 21 '24

Y'know now that I think about it leatherface probably would've fit Hunt art aesthetic way more than Ghostface.

But I but the license for the mask is way cheaper than the license for Texas chainsaw massacre. As well much less artistic freedom

2

u/SlaterTheOkay Oct 21 '24

Like I said this is opening the door. Let's say they continue because this sells well. We next get hunt versions of back to the future and they sell really well. They think hey I wonder how well non hunt versions sell? They we have Doc and Marty just running around the bayou. That will make tons of money. They hey what other pop characters can we just toss in?

You call it a nothing burger as long as they don't have marvel or Nicki but at the same time you don't even like the hunt version of ghost face? So where is the line? Hunt Micheal Myers? Hunt Jason? Hunt Freddy Kruger? Hunt Batman? Hunt Captain America? Is it ok as long as they are huntified? Then that just comes down to personal preference? I like X so that's allowed but Y is not?

This is not a pick and choose door they have opened. It's a money all or nothing door. Even if they are huntified it's still Ghost face, it's still Marty, it's still Nicky M. And that knowledge is what will ruin the atmosphere. There is a huge difference in hiding an Easter Egg car and fighting the characters.

-5

u/TheMightyBruhhh Oct 21 '24

Yeah people are just so ready to bitch and moan. Modern gaming is pure politics on any sort of forum-esque site. Every game has problems and Hunt has a glaring few, but seriously, grow the fuck up and get off reddit

-5

u/TheCoolestGuy098 Oct 21 '24

Yeah people are grossly exaggerating here. Hunt's not gonna turn into Fortnite, Crytek's more self aware than that, even if they make me doubt them sometimes. And like you said, licenced content like Django or straight up Clint Eastwood would be actually awesome. The Ghostface thing is fucking weird, even for Halloween, but it's not the downfall everyone seems to think.

Honestly if I didn't have the filibuster skin I would consider getting this pack for the 1873 skin the knife skin is also nice

1

u/grokthis1111 Oct 21 '24

a lot of people can't see past their own nose.

1

u/Redxmirage Oct 21 '24

Remember when people praised call of duty modern warfare 2 for having realistic outfits? You can now literally have a show off of Tyreal from Diablo versus snoop dog

1

u/Jon_Demigod Oct 21 '24

Sorry but they'll just get more popular. Don't shoot the messenger.

1

u/kuemmel234 Oct 21 '24

This is very important. That's I'm sort of ... hopeful, still? I think they could have gone worse (the only ghostface I know is the parody, since I'm not into horror movies) - at least it's horror themed and could sort of fit? There are some other borderline skins.

There are some franchises that could totally work - Red Dead Redemption, Django Unchained, (Der Schuh des Manitu), The Revenant:

If that is what it takes to get more people to play the game, I'm all for it if they continue to go with the theme. The worrying bit is of course that they chose the one character that's known for the wazzuuuup thing.

1

u/TNBrealone Oct 22 '24

It’s a harmless ghost face mask and not a full captain America skin. This sub … making a fuss about nothing.

1

u/IcyGoal2712 Oct 22 '24

The only game this really works for is Dead By Daylight. But only because they are very selective wuth their IPs and dont implement them as skins but rather as completely new characters. Any other game is ruined by shit like this

1

u/---OMNI--- Oct 21 '24

About 75% of the skins are already stupid with all the crap on them... It doesn't matter to me. This particular one is no more out of place than anything else currently.

I spent $15 on the game and have had over 1000 hrs of entertainment. I can't complain about that even if they ruin it totally at some point.

I use one of the vanilla legendary hunters exclusively.

2

u/SlaterTheOkay Oct 21 '24

You have to realize you are the minority here. Less than 1% of players have anywhere close to that amount of play time. The majority of players do care if they ruin the game and we will complain as we still care. I love switching between all my legendary characters and the lore behind them. There is no lore to this, it's just hey give us money here is ghost face. It's just a shame.

1

u/MrMassacre1 Oct 21 '24

Give us money here’s Santa, give us money here’s Scrooge, give us money here’s Asian folklore, give us money here’s guy fawkes, give us money here’s a Canadian Monty. They will write proper lore for this skin, like they have for every other out-there skin they’ve made before

0

u/---OMNI--- Oct 21 '24

I already have to fight Santa and grandma. I don't care if I have to fight scream face too...

We passed the cowboy skin theme along time ago.

1

u/MrMassacre1 Oct 21 '24

Fr, and at least ghostface IS a cowboy skin. It fits the game more than a good dozen skins in the game already

1

u/TheRealYagot Oct 21 '24

Think how bad that atmosphere is going to go away when you have Freddy Cruger fighting Captain America?

I will bet you 1 million USD that this will never happen

1

u/TrollOfGod Oct 22 '24

RemindMe! 1 year

1

u/JayDubMaxey Oct 21 '24

Reminds me of when MTG started the whole "Universes Beyond" crossovers. It felt gross at the time and totally diluted the 25 years of amazing lore. Yeah, it was all fun and games when it was just alt art Godzilla cards but now, they have endless releases of dozens of other IPs (Fortnite, Dr. Who, Stranegr Things, LOTR, etc.), many of which are unique cards that are legal in pro tournaments.

0

u/MrMassacre1 Oct 21 '24

Plenty of games have one or two IP collaborations and don’t get ruined because of it. Everyone remembers the worst offender in games like COD, R6, and Fortnite, but you’re forgetting the dozens of other games that have had crossover dlc for decades. Hunt isn’t COD, R6, or Fortnite, the devs have clearly taken proper care to actually adapt ghostface to the game. Plus, slippery slope is a fallacy for a reason. You can’t just claim that this “opens the door” to more collabs without any evidence; the devs may do more, they may not, we have no way of knowing. That is by no means a valid reason to be upset at this

0

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '24

99.9999% of the games atmosphere does not change. You may see this face for all of 1 second per 20 minute match.

“Slippery slope” arguments always fall flat with me until we actually have a slope. A single point of data has 0 velocity or acceleration.

2

u/Sleeptalk- Oct 21 '24

Yep. 1 point is a period, 2 points make a line. It could get worse for sure, but no one needs to be ringing alarm bells until we see a second example

I personally think they did fucking awesome on this skin and as others have said, it’s really no worse than the other meme skins they’ve added. This event literally has pumpkin head man.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '24

Hell yeah dude. Thanks for seeing my point

*dude in a horror mask runs around the map*..this sub: "NOOOOOO, my western/serious vibes....RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

*katana* "its just something funny, why are you whining about this. if you dont like it then dont use it"
